Thursday Already! In Tenaha voice of Doyce
Good forecast for rain all
this week. Let it come. We did
receive an unmeasureable
amount this past Saturday. We
are still under a fire ban.
Family and friends met to
honor Hunter Collins on her
fourth birthday this past Sat-
urday. She is growing up so
fast. Others celebrating birth-
days this week are L. W.
Bardwell, Elizabeth
Linebarger, Barbara Smith,
Kelley Roberson, Lois Leath-
ers, Lynn Walker, Missouri
Wilson. Celebrating anniver-
saries this week are Mr. and
Mrs. Robbie Strahan and Mr.
and Mrs. Ricky Evans. The
last day of July will find
Danny Wagstaff and Ronnie
Fleming sharing birth days.
I attended a short portion of
the Booker T. Washington
Reunion this past weekend.
Eddie, Roland Cross, Judge
Watson were also present for
the parade. When we left it cer-
tainly looked like the group
was sharing fond memories of
days gone by. My compliments
to those that worked so hard
to make this a success. Always
good to see people that want
to come to celebrate in Tenaha.
Looks like property bound-
ary stakes are out where we are
assuming the Dollar General
store is going. We have a build-
ing layout of the store itself
here in City Hall. Everyone is
getting excited. Just took a call
from a sign company in Tyler
that tells me they will be in-
stalling signs for Dollar Gen-
eral and needed to know if we
have a sign ordinance. The
answer to them was “no”.
Things are really rolling.
School starts so very soon.
Some faculty members are al-
ready returning. Ray Jackson
started yesterday. I think one
of his responsibilities is to
make sure all of the comput-
ers are “on go”. I keep watch-
ing the work that Camelo
Garay is doing in the gym
parking lot. It looks like it will
be a brick sign of some sort.
Guess I’ll just have to wait and
see what it turns into. Addi-
tional vehicle parking is now
available for those entering the
Administration Building since
paving has been done just off
of FM 947 in front of the build-
ing.
The square of Tenaha is cer-
tainly busy during the lunch
hour. We have so many rail-
road workers, highway work-
ers and then our Tenaha work-
ers and seems they all lunch at
near the same time.
Some of Mr. Ullman May-
ors family were here last week
to attend a funeral. Was so
good to visit with them. They
live in Texas City or near there.
When they left here they were
on their way to visit Sue
Kilpatrick. I told them that I
had visited with the Fraziers
from down their way on Ten-
nessee Third Sunday. So many
people from Tenaha are in the
Houston area.
The Hall of Honor Commit-
tee met last evening and selec-
tions for the November 4 In-
duction will be announced
soon. Just waiting to give the
list to Don Fallin at the school.
You readers and supporters of
TISD will be pleased with the
inductees.
Just can’t say too much
good about Bear except that
“We like him". Eddie has two
new bandaids on his arm this
morning. We thought that he
was beyond breaking the skin
stage, but he fooled us. I think
I need to call Sonia Yearwood
and see if I can get him in the
next class she starts.
Tenaha Businessmen’s Club
meets this Thursday at the
Whistle Stop. Fifth Sunday
Singing will be at First Bap-
tist Church for the evening ser-
vices this Sunday.
So many people are either
in the hospital, just got out, or
have testing or procedures
scheduled. Be in prayer for Eb
Figley, Dave Woods, Retha
Mize, Sally Smith, Buddy
Harrison, Gene Casto, James
Gordon and the list goes on.
Best bring this to a close.
See you in church.

Imagine world class cardiac technology - combined with a compassionate, skilled
physician, close-by. It’s here - at The Heart Doctor Imaging Center Advanced
technology gives Dr Stephen Young a clearer picture than ever before of what’s
happening inside your body. He can more readily assess clots, aneurysms and
occlusions - enabling him to choose the best method of treatment. Convenient.
Cost Effective. And comforting. We’re here. So you can be there.

Both wearing bullet proof
vests due to threatening letters,
Billy and Ethel Latham, of
Center, Texas, heard their
sentences read to them with
solemn faces and knowledge of
grim futures. Both were
charged with sexually
molesting their one-year-old
son in May, 2005, following a
search of their home and
complete police investigation.
Ethel Latham, age 37, heard
her sentence last week. After a
plea of guilty, she received a
20-year sentence. Billy
Latham, age 40, plead not
guilty and was sentenced to life
in prison with eligibility of
parole in 30 years. Most of the
testimony heard in the trial
involved the internet chat
rooms and webcam.
Several of those attending the
trial described it as “ a
sickening event.”
Parental rights to the child
have been taken away. The
child is in foster homes.
It's about that time— for school
to begin again!!

Tenaha Tidbits
by Martha Brennion-Nease
Constable Randy Whatley,
of Precinct #4 in Shelby
County has been busy lately.
One of his pet peeves is seeing
trash dumped on our county
roads - several people have
been issued citations for that
and given the opportunity to
clean up the mess on the road.
After having to clean it up one
time, hopefully they will never
do it again. I live on a County
Road so I really appreciate his
efforts. People need to remem-
ber “CR” does NOT stand for
“Container for Refuse”. If you
don’t want it in your front lawn
it does not need to be taken to
the closest county road or
creek.
Constable Whatley’s other
pet project is getting drugs off
of the roads. So they can not
be distributed to mess up
someone’s life. He and Beau,
his brown lab are a very suc-
cessful team. Look for pic-
tures of Randy and Beau’s
most recent seizure.
Gene Casto has an appoint-
ment with his cardiologist to-
day. Hopefully he will get a
good report. Gene & Maggie’s
oldest son, Jeff and his wife
Roberta came Saturday to
visit. So we were on Harrison
Hill Saturday night. There was
lots of traffic on the road go-
ing to Brack’s house. Cole had
a friend, Sera from Boston vis-
iting. Brack & Dixie (Mrs.
John Paul Lawson) are being
visited by their sister Penny.
Casey is expected to give birth
to Dixie & John Paul’s first
grandbaby at any moment.
Buddy is missing out on lots
of the excitement as he is in the
VA Hospital in Shreveport.
Hurry up and get better we all
miss you.
Judge Lenard Anstead had
decided there was no reason he
could not drive again. Bonnie
from the Tenaha Clinic had
him come to the office after he
was spotted driving to the
Whistlestop for lunch. I be-
lieve she made it clear to him
that he was not to be driving.
His friends have reported he
will not get a portable oxygen
tank so he often goes to sleep
when he goes places.
George & Laura Bowers
celebrated their wedding anni-
versary. Jean Peddy celebrated
her birthday.
Up coming events: The de-
scendants of William
Humphries will be having their
21 st family reunion in the F el-
lowship Hall of the First Bap-
tist Church in Center Saturday,
July 29th from 11am until 2pm.
There will be signs and ballons
to mark the entrance on Pecan
Street. Lunch will be at noon,
with everyone bringing food to
share. My great-grandmother
was Emma Humphries. She
was the mother of my grand-
father, William Jennings Bryan
Hayden.
