GARY—had a nice note
from Dixie Hall. She wanted
to renew her subscription to
the T&T News. Says she
enjoys it and really looks
forward to it each week. She
says, “I always share it with a
special lady.” She continues,
P. S. “I was in our local hospital
having Lab work done on Feb.
3rd and I believe I may have
seen Mr. & Mrs. Reeh there
in the waiting area, most likely
waiting for X-Rays or Lab
work. If it was you, I trust you
got a good report on whatever
was done. D.H. (Thanks for
caring, Dixie. Yes, it was me
getting the works again.
Haven’t heard a word from
the tests yet. When I do, I will
let you know. I hope yours
turned out okay. Florence).
TIMPSON —Mary
Witcher came in Friday and
we visited a long time. She
asked when the first driver’s
license was issued. Marshal
Clopp came by at the same
time and neither of us knew
the answer. Tried the internet
and no answer. Mary sent a
note saying she had found a
site on the internet where the
Federal Regulations issued a
bus and truck license in 1935.
So, I was wondering how
many folks would have
known the answer right off.
Just curious/
BOBO—Talked to
George Green Tuesday. He
said he was feeling pretty
good. Sounded good. Billie
was taking advantage of this
pretty day and was out in the
yard. I do like to keep up with
them since we pass their
house morning and evening
and if we don’t see both cars
in the garage, we always
wonder about them. Thank
goodness they are okay. Did
you know that William D.
Wade was appointed
postmaster of Bobo in 1893?
The office was discontinued
five months later and the mail
was sent to Timpson. Just
thought I’d throw that in.
CENTER—now what is
wrong with Miss Mattie
Dellinger? She hasn’t written
to me in a couple of weeks.
Hope she isn’t ill.
OFFICE—notice that the
Timpson Volunteer Fire Dept,
reporter is Rusty Nix. Be sure
to read his column under “

Timpson Voluntary Fire Department News
By Rusty Nix
On Tuesday, February 8,
the Timpson Voluntary Fire
Department had their regular
monthly meeting. There were
24 members present. The first
item on the agenda was the
idea of fund-raisers for the up-
coming year. A motion was
made by Sam Parks to have a
potato bake on Saturday May
7, 2005 (election day). The
motion had a second and was
voted on unanimously. Rusty
Nix made a motion to have a
softball tournament, but it
would need to be after high
school baseball was over. The
motion was tabled until the
next meeting. Luke Shaddix,
training officer, called for a
training meeting for the 19th
of February at 12 noon at the
fire hall. New members were
voted in. Those new members
are Jason Sparks, Daniel Platt
and Ashley Campos. Fire
Chief Bubba Lee appointed
Greg Hailey to be the Jr.
Training Officer. The next
meeting will be on March 8,
2005 at 7 p.m. Election of of-
ficers will be held during this
meeting. The meeting was
adjourned at 7: 50 p.m.
Other news by the fire de-
partment includes a mock ex-
plosion at Timpson TAMCO.
This was done Wednesday
night and was used for train-
ing the fire department and
ambulance personnel. The
fire department would like to
thank Timpson TAMCO for
the use of their facilities and
for their cooperation in this
drill (Billy and Seth were 2 of
the victims). All went well. If
you are interested in becom-
ing a volunteer with the fire
department, please get in
touch with one of your fire
personnel. Until then, stay
safe.

ARLINGTON— former
resident of Timpson, Dell
Franklin, wrote as she sent her
subscription money for
renewal. She gave her new
address and said she wanted
us to know she has moved into
an apartment in Arlington. She
said, “I enjoy the paper and all
the news about my friends in
Timpson. I love you guys.
Thanks for the papers”, Dell.
We miss her also and wish her
the best and realize that she is
going to be very happy nearer
to her family.

Murvaul Monitor & Gary Gabb
Well, our good Buddy, and
manager of Lake Murvaul,
Jody Windham, tells us a lotta
folks are wettin' their hooks
and goin' home smilin' these
days. Bass are co-operating
real well especially around the
docks and piers and Dodsons
Crossing. The stripers are
gung ho to the crank baits &
chartreaus spinners. Crappie
fishin' is pretty much the same
in the 64 degree murky H20.
Jody says the big cats are
respondin' fair to worms and
minnows but didn't know of
any real lunkers being boated.
Jody told me he didn't know
of any of the anglers using
liver and that surprises me. My
"Babe" wouldn't think of fishin'
for catfish with anything but.
She likes to let her hook lie on
the bottom and uses maybe
five or six poles at the same
time. (Of course this is bank
fishin')One day she hauled in
77 pan size cats in maybe
three or four hours. I know for
sure cause I skinned and
dressed 'em all. Hope you're
makin' plans to spend some
time on Murvaul soon and all
spring & summer. There's re-
ally no need to go anywhere
else.
Havin' a little trouble get-
ting my news sources lined up
for the Gary tid-bits, hang in
with me, it'll come ttogether
soon. I had a nice phone chat
with Ethel Morelands' Pastor,
Mike Taylor from the Enter-
prise Baptist Church in Gary,
should get some goop on hap-
penings t there for next weeks
T&T News. Also talked to
Brother Ricky , Woodth the
hMinister at Gary's First Bap-
tist. If it's OK with the con-
gregation , we'll have news
from him also. No, the
Beckville cheeleaders didn't
cross over to Gary last week.
Our Bobcats outdid the
Bearcats 1,800 to 1,600 in the
sock drive and that was the
deal. More soon D.R.

Why do folks give some
folks that they don’t exactly
like the “cold shoulder?” How
did that originate?
Is it really true that coffee
can sober up a drunk?
Exactly where is “Podunk”
and how did it come to mean
“a small town?”
Where did the phrase
“stole someone’s thunder”
originate?
Did anyone ever really
‘talk turkey?”
Why do snakes stick out
their tongues?
Ever see a “weasel pop?”
How did that get started?
How did the saying,’’pay
through the nose” get started?
Are elephants really afraid
of mice?
Where did the superstition
that it is bad luck to open an
umbrella inside the house ori
Hope everyone had a
happy Valentine’s Day. Do
any of you my age (very old)
remember how much fun we
used to have making a Valen-
tine box in our classrooms and
addressing cards to our class-
mates? Times were so much
simpler then. I can remember
making a Valentine box in Mrs.
Evie Ruth Taylor’s third grade.
It was so much fun to read all
the cards! I also remember
that year we made a little
notebook about Texas history.
That was the year we learned
the state bird, state flower, and
even “Texas, Our Texas”!
We had a small crowd at
church today; we were miss-
ing a lot of our regulars. We
missed Mr. Bill and Col. Clay,
Alene, Lurline, and Byron.
Chris and Zachary were also
absent. We appreciate Ron,
Katie, and Chad for coming
withBro. Jim to church. They
add to the service, and Ron
rings the bell for Johnnie. I
picked up Johnnie for church
and Dorlene took her home.
She and I were talking about
Horace, and we remembered
how in his column he always
had “’’Pearls” and “Cockle-
burs”. I think this week we
have a lot more “Cockleburs”
since we missed so many to-
day. I do think Johnnie quali-
fies as a “Pearl”. It requires a
lot of effort for her to make it
to church, but she is always
there with a smile and an en-
couraging word! I left church
early to attend a birthday cel-
ebration for my sister Nancy
this afternoon. Our niece Kim
Anderson and her husband
Tracy hosted a late lunch for
her today. Tracy is a good
cook and served delicious bar-
b-cue. Nancy is looking for-
ward to meeting her new
granddaughter in person in a
few weeks. We are getting
really cute pictures of her
from Hawaii. We have been
moving Chris to Kilgore the
past few days. He will be a
lot closer to his work. Con-
gratulations to the Lady Bears
basketball team.
They have made the
playoff’s this year. This group
of young ladies has been
working hard toward this goal
for quite a few years. We are
very proud of them! Aunt
Marie is feeling better after a
short stay in a Shreveport hos-
pital.
Tenaha First United Methodist Church News
_By Martha Brennion-Nease_
Tenaha First United Method-
ist Church met on Sunday, Feb-
ruary 13th, 2005. The regular
service times are Sunday School
at 10:00am. The Worship service
is at 10:45am, with choir rehearsal
between Sunday School and the
Worship service. If you do not
have a church home come visit
with us. The introit was “This Is
The Day”. The choir sang “It
Took A Miracle” for the special
music. Scripture for the sermon
was Romans 5: 12-19. The title
was “A Lenten Whodunit”. If
you missed the sermon you can
read it on the web site or call Pas-
tor Jim Bradley for a cassette tape
of the sermon.
Laura Bowers and Jean Parker
shared their birthdays with the
congregation.
“Experiencing God” will be
held on Wednesday evenings at
7:00pm; except for the times the
class follows an administrative
board meeting or a fellowship.
February 16th will be the 3rd meet-
ing of this 13-week course.
Wednesday, February 9th was
another busy evening for our
church. At 6:00pm there was as
Ash Wednesday Service. There
was a short sermon and the plac-
ing of ashes on the forehead in
the sign of the cross. At 6:30pm
the regular monthly fellowship
dinner was held. Bar-BQ pre-
pared by the pastor was the fea-
tured items. They included
brisquet, sausage, pablano pep-
pers, buffalo horns, and shrimp.
The congregation provided des-
serts and salads. Everything was
excellent.
Lent is a 40-day period dur-
ing which Christians often give
up something to remind them
that God allowed Christ to be
the sacrificial lamb for our sins.
Christ freely gave up his life on
Earth knowing the painful death
he would have in order to pay
for our sins. I hope you chose
something to be a daily reminder
to you. Palm Sunday, will be on
March 20th, with Maundy Thurs-
day on March 24, with Good Fri-
Con’t on page 4
