Yoakum Hospital receives recognition
YOAKUM: Developments, improvements, new
technology, and construction over the past few years at
Yoakum Community Hospital all had a hand in the hospital
recently being named among the “100 Great Community
Hospitals” for 2013 by Brecker’s Hospital Review. The
Brecker’s Hospital Review evaluates hospitals with fewer
than 550 beds and with minimal teaching programs,
predominately in rural areas and despite of the limited
resources these hospitals provide the quality of care and
experience patients expect. The improvements Yoakum
Community Hospital deemed necessary was with the
goal of becoming a critical access hospital and was made
possible by Foundation support and includes construction
of a new medical office building, digital mammography
technology, and the implementation of an electronic health
record system. -Yoakum Herald-Times
Water restrictions implemented in Gonzales
GONZALES: Stage lwaterrestrictions were implemented
in Gonzales earlier this month due to inconsistent readings
ranging from 400 CFS to 75 CFS. When the gauge
indicates a flow below 200 then drought contingency plans
initiate stage 1 restrictions. These voluntary conservation
restrictions include using good judgment when watering
outdoors, not water between the hottest hours of the day
between 10a.m.-7p.m. and limit weekly watering to one
inch per week, the recommended amount for lawns and
gardens. City Manager Allen Barnes reassured citizens in
Gonzales that the city has sufficient water supplies. - The
