Library News
Thanks to the Trull Foundation we have been granted the
funds to purchase new chairs for the meeting room, four
new computers and new furniture for the Blessing Library.
These items will help our libraries be more efficient and
comfortable. Watch for the big announcement when the
new equipment will be in the libraries.
Regina Deadrick, former graduate of Palacios High
School donated The Personal History of Rachel Dupree
by Ann Weisgarber and Some Sing Some Cry by Ntozake
Shange.
Last week during Story Hour Miss Vikijane read Prai-
rie Chicken Little by Jackie Mims Hopkins and made little
bears and origami. Since it was our last story hour until the
end of summer we had ice cream sandwiches donated by
Nora Aparicio, and juice drinks donated by Marci Duran.
During craft time we made patriotic collages around
the poem “Flanders Field” by John McRae and everyone
chose a book from First Book. Story Hour will retrun after
Labor Day next Fall.
Kindergarten, Fourth and Fifth grade classes visited the
library this week and last week. They learned about our
summer programs and were encouraged to get a library
card and participate this summer. Children may check out
a book today and start participating in the Winner’s Circle.
All they have to do is choose a book from the list at the
library and write a short one page book report.
Every two weeks we will have a party for those who
have turned in a book report and after four book reports
have been turned in we will go on a field trip the first week
of August. If you have a question about the Winner’s Cir-
cle you may call the library at 972-3234.
We now have many new children’s books and they have
been marked with A/R levels and point value. There are
popular fiction and nonfiction books for the children’s
reading pleasure. Your child may want to read some of
these for the Winner’s Circle,we have the new books on
display at the library.
On a recent visit to the Blessing Elementary School Miss
Vikijane told the children about getting a library card and
participating at the Blessing Library’s Summer reading
program sponsored by the Blessing Ladies Auxiliary. The
program will begin on July 11th through the 30th. They
will meet every Thursday except for the last week when
they will meet on Tuesday from 2 pm until 3 pm, every
child will be given a book mark to help them to remember
this.
Palacios Library will be meeting every Tuesday and
Wednesday in July from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m., both pro-
grams will enjoy books, crafts, refreshments and a new
book from First Book.
