County farmers reach out during
'exas Food Connection Week
Farmers in Jackson County
will reach out to local cus-
tomers to talk with them about
how their food is grown during
Texas Food Connection Week,
Feb. 16-22.
Farmers and ranchers across
the state will organize commu-
nity activities, donate to local
philanthropies and seek to spur
conversations with their cus-
tomers during the week-long
program.
This month has been very
active at the center. Lisa
Gabrysch is teaching stained
glass class and Dolly Martinez
has had a “Sip & Paint” work-
shop. There will be two more
“Sip & Paint” workshops fea-
turing the wonderful “Va Va
Va Voom Flowers. These two
workshops were filled with
students only days after an-
nouncing the dates. The center
is now working on a March 4
date and that is half full.
Everyone who has painted
these flowers, both adults and
children classes have enjoyed
this experience.
We had a birthday party at
the center on Feb. 11 and
many of the party-goers were
new to painting and they were
so excited about the finished
"Texas Food Connection
Week is about sharing what we
do on our farms and ranches to
grow our food, fuel and fiber,"
said Lindsey Bradford, Jack-
son County Farm Bureau pres-
ident. "Young people and
adults have questions about
their food and agriculture. This
week gives farmers the oppor-
tunity to start a conversation
with them.
"Food is one thing that con-
canvas.
The next class will be a mo-
saic stepping stone taught by
Brenda Rose. This will be on
Feb. 25 and the follow up will
be Feb. 27. The cost of the
class is $85 and starts at 6 p.m.
and lasts until 9 p.m. Every-
one from a previous class had
such a wonderful time they
wanted another class. Brenda
is a great instructor and she
serves light refreshments dur-
ing the class that are delicious.
Everyone should know that
the director is leaving the Aug.
1. She and her husband, Ken
Pryor will be moving to New
Braunfels and the center will
need to have people around
the community to step up and
keep the center open. The cen-
ter started almost five years
nects everyone. We work hard
every day to provide families
with fresh, nutritious and af-
fordable food," Bradford said.
"We are looking forward to
connecting with our con-
sumers."
Texas Food Connection
Week, formerly Food Check-
Out Week, was established to
connect farmers with their cus-
tomers and spur conversations
about agriculture and food-re -
ago and has been very active
in the area and it would be a
shame to see the art center
close. Only three hours a day
is all that is required to keep
the center doors open. Keep in
mind that it would be sad to
see Jackson County lose such
a beneficial part of their com-
munity. The children as well
as adults have enjoyed partic-
ipating in the activities here.
Call Sally Pryor at (361)781-
0702 to talk about what you
can do to help.
If you are interested in tak-
ing the final stained glass class
with Lisa Gabrysch you need
to contact the center. She will
not be teaching after July. Let
the center know if there are
any classes that you are inter-
ested in taking before the
lated issues, including afford-
ability, nutrition, animal wel-
fare, profitability and
productivity.

portunities, contact the Jack-

Many thanks go to all the
wonderful people who have
supported this center with do-
nations, gifts such as art sup-
plies and like Peggy Bezoni
who donated two beautiful
gold gilded frames this month.
The family and friends of
“Pat” Wells donated money in
his memory since he sup-
ported this center from the
first opening. He was an en-
thusiastic supporter of this
center and will always be re-
member with loving thoughts.
Over the years when there
were months that were diffi-
cult financially, very special
people in this community do-
nated to keep the lights on and
for this we will always be
grateful.

he People Speak
Frankson is qualified
I am writing this letter in
support of David “Brother”
Frankson for County Com-
missioner of Precinct 4 in
Jackson County.
It was my privilege to serve
under the direction of Mr.
Frankson through the work of
the Jackson County Wide
Drainage District for more
than 18 years. During those
years under his leadership, I
was impressed by the exem-
plary character qualities Mr.
Frankson brought to the job,
his family, and the commu-
nity. Mr. Frankson exhibits
honesty and integrity.
For anyone seeking office
in Jackson County, we, as the
public, should demand expe-
rience to meet the demands of
every facet of the job, an even
disposition to make wise de-
cisions, and someone who
will carry the job through to
completion. Mr. Frankson has
served on a banking board
and has experience with fi-
nancials. As the vice chairman
of the Jackson County Wide
Drainage District, Mr. Frank-
son served on committees that
involved making decisions on
equipment purchases, budg-
ets, and tax revenue.
David Frankson not only
has the experience to do the
job of county commissioner,
he has years of experience in
taking problems, studying
them calmly, weighing every
side of the issue, and choos-
ing what is best for the com-
munity, not himself. I would
encourage your support at the
polls for David “Brother”
Frankson.

and appreciation of their vo-
cations.

thanks to the local HEB. store
