BERNICE AILENE RAMSEY
Funeral services for Bernice Ailene Ramsey, 87, of
Markham, TX, were held Nov. 20, 2012 at the First Bap-
tist Church in Markham with Rev. Louis Rush officiating.
Interment followed at Hawley Cemetery.
Mrs. Ramsey was born Aug. 14, 1925 in Palacios,TX to
the late Jesse Walton Sanders and Lela Edna Keith Sand-
ers. She passed away Nov. 16, 2012.
She worked for many years at Orr ’s Grocery in Markham.
Her husband, Rev. Joseph Elwood Ramsey, was former
pastor at the First Baptist Church in Markham where they
met and later married. She took great joy in serving as
a pastor’s wife and worked diligently to help him in the
ministry. Bernice passed away on the day of their 42nd
anniversary.
Survivors include her husband Rev. Joe Ramsey; broth-
er Henry Marvin Sanders & wife Bobbie of Ferriday, LA;
niece Susan Saudi; children Mary King & husband Bill,
Joe Ramsey & wife Lana and Dedra Ramsey; grandchil-
dren Darrell Machacek & wife April, Jacobb Bakker, Ra-
chel Rush & husband Louis, Lisa Sexton & husband Ken-
ny, Scott King & wife Nora, Courtney King and Richard
Lewis; great grandchildren Joseph “Joey” Elwood Mach-
acek, Austin Machacek, Caleb Rush, Joshua Rush, Han-
nah Rush, Tanner Sexton, Taylor Sexton, Timothy Sex-
ton, Ricky Lewis, Zachary Lewis, Landon Lewis, Morgan
Lewis and Aiden Lewis.
She was preceded in death by a brother Jess W. “Bud”
Sanders & wife Ida Bell Sanders, nephew Robert Alan
Sanders and daughter Rachel Ann Hart.
Pallbearers were Darrell Machacek, Jacobb Bakker,
Caleb Rush, Joshua Rush, Kenny Sexton and Scott King.
Robert Miller served as honorary pallbearer.
NOLA ‘JEAN’ NOFFSINGER
Nola “Jean” Noffsinger, of Beulah, MI went to Heaven
to be with her Lord and Savior on Nov. 19, 2012 at the age
of 97. She was surrounded by her family including those
who took loving care of her at Bortz
Health Care in Traverse City.
¥ She was born March 28, 1915,
■ ■ in Covington, Ohio to Emory and
[ Glenna Rhoades. She was married in
Ohio in 1939 to Judson Noffsinger
K. ■ and they moved to Frankfort.To-
gether they raised four children and
W were known for their strong faith,
W their love of people and love of their
r ? ? f.,\ coimtry- Jean was a also known for
t-her beautiful floral arrangements and
enjoyment of music, including being the organist at Our
Savior Lutheran Church in Beulah. For several years, Jud
and Jean supplied area markets, neighbors and resorters
with superb fruits and vegetables. After Jud’s retirement
from the Ann Arbor Railroads, they spent 20 winters in
Palacios, TX making good friendships there.
Jean is survived by her children, Marcia (Roger) Beil-
fuss of Chase, MI, Gary Noffisinger of Benzonia and
Susan (Paul) Wilhite of Copemish; six grandchildren; 12
great-grandchildren; one infant great-great grandson; sis-
ter-in-law Helen Noffsinger of Beulah; and several nieces
and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Judson in
1997, their oldest son, Ronald in 2010; parents; four sib-
lings and a great-granddaughter who died in infancy.
Funeral services were held Nov. 23,2012 at Jowett Fam-
ily Funeral Home in Benzonia, MI, with a horse drawn
procession for burial in Benzonia Twp. Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be given to First Baptist Church
in Evart, MI or Our Savior Lutheran Church in Benzonia.

Prices for cemetery spaces in Palacios
Cemetery will increase to {700each.
Due to the rising costs of Maintaining
& Operating the Cemetery prices
of each space will increase from
$600 to $700per lot
Donations and applications now being
taken for 2012 Operation Santa Claus
Palacios ’ Operation Santa Claus (OSC)
is now accepting donations and applica-
tions.
Applications will be taken through
Monday (Dec. 3) at the Palacios Area
Fund (PAF) office, located at 457 Com-
merce, from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m., Monday thru
Wednesday’ andatthe Matagorda County
Annex Building from 8 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.
Monday thru Thursday.
When applying don’t forget the fol-
lowing:
• Proof of Residency: driver’s license,
utility bill, tax statement.
• Family Members Social Security
Cards: including children.
• Proof of Household Income: Em-
ployment check stub or Social Security
check stub.
If you know of someone who needs help
this Christmas, you can refer him or her
by calling 972-3960.
New and used toys, good coats and
jackets and blankets can be dropped off
at the PAF during office hours.
Donations of money are needed for the
purchase of food and household items for
Christmas boxes.
All donations are tax deductible when
made to Palacios Area Fund.
Elves will be needed at the Palacios
Recreation center from Dec. 10 - Dec.
13 for wrapping gifts, unloading the Food
Bank truck and packing boxes.
This project cannot happen without
volunteers. Christmas is about helping
others, so plan on giving some time to
this community project.
Pick-ups and delivery will be on Dec.
14 between 8 a.m. - 12 p.m.
Last year, Operation Santa Claus
served 280 households consisting of 851
individuals because of the generosity of
others, food, gifts and holiday cheer was
enjoyed by many.
County Retired Teachers Assn, to meet
Dec. 4 at Blessing Community Center
The Matagorda County
Retired Teachers (and school
personnel) Association will
meet at 12noonTuesday,Dec.
4 at the Blessing Community
Center. The Blessing Hotel
will provide the meal of turkey
and all the fixings.

Both State Representatives
will welcome you contacting
them about the new Legislative
session that starts in January.
The local unit will have a Leg-
islative Day in March 2013.
The representatives agree
with 75% of Texan voters
who want to see an increase
in teacher’s salaries.
They also talked about the
study about the Texas Teachers
Retirement System. In 2012
the state contributed 6.4% and
personnel contributed 6.4%.
The system will be able to
be sound till 2075. However,
for cost of living raises to be
possible the state contribution
will need to be upped gradually
to 8.13% and the personnel
contribution would be upped
to 7.31% with a change in
retirement of the Rule of 80
with a minimum age of 62.
Currently the TRS members
only receive on 52% of their
pre-retirement income.

presented at Alapha Club

The Alapha Club met Nov.
15 at the Palacios Library
with members answering roll
call question: What wuldyour
candy heart read? ”.
The most popular answers
were I Love You, I Love You
and Kisses.
The business meeting was
held with president Janie
Gulley presiding. Secretary
Miss Murphy read the pre-
vious meeting’s minutes and
correspondence.
Betty Scurlock, Dolly
Hamlin, and Barbara Dell
presented the program on
“Love Language”. Members
discussed the different ways
to express the language of
love: Bible scripture (Corin-
thians 13:4-8), verbally, love
letters, poems, word of af-
firmation, quality time, gifts,
acts of service, and physical
touch.
One the of most enjoyable
parts of the program was pre-
sented by special guests Pas-
tor Chris Webb and Associate
Pastor James Collins of the
First Baptist Church. Chris
played the guitar and they
both brought the members
love language through sev-
eral love songs.
