Students have the option
to test out of a course
The state’s education law,
the Texas Administrative
Code will allow the
Industrial Independent
School District students to
obtain credit in a course or
grade level by passing tests
approved by school district
trustees. Texas law, 19 TAC
Chapter 74, allows students
to “test out of a course” by
taking a “Credit by
Examination” without prior
instruction in the course(s)
being tested. To earn credit
for a grade or a subject the
student must answer 90 per-
cent of the questions correct-
ly. In accordance with local
school district policy, a stu-
dent in any of the Grade 6-
12 may be given credit for an
academic subject in which
he or she had some prior
instruction, if the student
scores 70% on the test. The
tests are rigorous, targeting
all the objectives for the
courses covered.
The tests will be adminis-
tered in Victoria through
Region III Education
Service Center on June 27,
28 and 29 and again on July
10, 11 and 12 from 9 a.m. - 4
p.m. on each date.
Registration applications
may be picked up for the
Industrial School District
from the high school regis-
trar. Deadline for registra-
tion is May 22.
For more information call
the Registrar’s office on
your student’s campus.

Wear your favorite college T-shirt
Crossroads residents are
encouraged to wear their
favorite college T-shirt in sup-
port of higher education on
GenTX Day May 3.
Generation TX, or GenTX,
is a statewide initiative started
by the Texas Higher Education
Coordinating Board to
encourage an entire genera-
tion of Texans to attend a
two-year college or four-year
university. The Victoria
GenTX Day is a joint effort
between Victoria College, the
University of Houston-
Victoria, Victoria
Independent School District,
and local organizations and
businesses.
Students across the state
will be wearing their favorite
college T-shirt to raise aware-
ness about attending college.
