The Victoria County
Genealogical Society met
Sept. 10 at the First Christian
Church Fellowship Hall,
2105 Ben Jordan in Victoria.
A geneology seminar by
Martha Jones will be held on
Saturday, Oct. 20 at the
Victoria College.
Registration is requested and
a box lunch will be provided.
The program centered on
how people find information
about their ancestors.
Everyone should keep a jour-
nal about their family.
Include information such as
size, hair color, eye color,
glasses, where they worked,
their hobbies, along with per-
sonal daily information that
would give someone a pic-
ture of what life was like dur-
ing their time here. Some of
these items may not sound
important but someday to a
great-great-grandchild
researching a family tree it
would be a pleasure to have
this journal with these bits of
information.

Texana Center for the Arts
by Sally Pryor, director
October marks the begin-
ning of many of our new
classes for fall. Mixed Media
for Pre-K started Oct. 4 and
lasts 4 weeks. Anna Kaiser is
the instructor. The class starts
at 4 p.m. and lasts one hour.
Students should be 4 - 6 years
old. Cost of the class is $40.
Watercolor for Adults start-
ed Oct. 3 and last for four
weeks. Cost of the class is $48
and includes all supplies. Late
sign-ups will be brought up to
speed by the next week’s
class. Basic drawing skills are
not needed.
If your child is interested in
a clay class, please sign-up
ahead of time. At least six stu-
dents are needed since we
must have enough to fill a
kiln. Students must be at least
7 years old. Dexterity of the
hand and fingers is a must.
We are now offering guitar
lessons for the serious minded
student. Craig Jones will be
the instmctor. He is an experi-
enced teacher and musician. If
you are interested call the cen-
ter at 781-0702. Class sched-
ules and fees will be provided.
Several workshops are
planned for the future along
with a bake sale and exhibi-
tion. Because of all the events
coming up in the next three
months, Texana Center for the
Arts is in dire need of some
help. If you have a couple of
hours a week, we need volun-
teers to man the center.
Remember it’s fun and you
might learn something.
Register to become a mem-
ber. Individual memberships
are $20, family is $25 and
anyone/business can support
the center by giving more.
Memberships last one year
and help with the rent/utilities
and supplies. Today our funds
are very low and we need help
to be able to keep our doors
open. Come by the center and
find out why it is important to
keep our doors open.

Make Early Detection
a Habit For Life!
Age is the most important risk factor for breast cancer. The
older a woman is, the greater her chance of developing the
disease. Most breast cancers occur in women over the age of 50.
The number of cases is especially high for women over age 60.
Women age 40 and older should get a high-quality
screening mammogram and have a clinical breast exam
every 1 to 2 years. Women who are at higher than average risk
of breast cancer should talk with their health care providers
about testing earlier.
Make early detection a habit for life, schedule your
appointment today! Our Mammography Machine is exclusive
in design and offers additional comfort by utilizing a Soft Touch
pad. Radiology Technologists are scheduling appointments
Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.
Schedule your appointment for a
state of the art digital screening mammogram
with our Imaging Professionals today!
