Mr. and Mrs. Adrian (Buddy)
Tucker had all eight of their children
together at their home on the
weekend. They had a family reunion
Sunday with 67 persons atending.
Their daughter, Rita, and her little
girl will be staying with them until
October while her husband completes
training in a branch of the service.
Maxene Patterson and her brother
Elmer (Mutt) Horn were in Shawnee,
Okla., Tuesday and Wednesday to
celebrate their mother, Vesta Horn’s,
96th birthday.
Rick, Cindy and Jason spent
Sunday with Wyman, Maxene and

principal
Cathy Tanton, a Hopkins County
native, has been named principal of
Tosch Elementary School in
Mesquite.
She joined the Mesquite school
system in 1968 after graduating from
East Texas State University with a
bachelor of science degree.
In 1978 she obtained a master of
education degree from ETSU.
Tanton began teaching at Shands
Elementary School and later taught
at Lawrence and Porter elementary
schools and was a coach at Vanston
Middle School.
She has served as assistant prin-
cipal at Hodges and Rugel elemen-
tary schools.
A 1959 graduate of Sulphur Bluff
High School, she is a member of
ATPE, MEA and DCASA.

buys resort
The management company for the
local Holiday Inn has announced it
has acquired a management contract
on a 60-room resort property in
Crystal Beach.
Lodging Host Hotel Corporation of
Longview also manages the Ramada
Inn in Marshall and two properties in
Longview.
The Crystal Beach property is 15
miles east of Galveston near the Gulf
of Mexico on Bolivar Peninsula.

job in Dallas after spending her
vacation with her husband, Jimmy,
at their farm home.

50th Anniversary

Beasley
Jones Personnel Service of
Greenville has announced the ap-
pointment of Bill Beasley of Sulphur
Springs as a placement counselor.
With the appointment of Beasley,
Jones Personnel has offered both
temporary and permanent placement
services at the managerial level and
in clerical fields. The current ex-
pansion will include job placement
for production workers and
technically oriented positions. Plans
also include a more active roll in the
placement of personnel in the Sulphur
Springs area.
Beasley served 14 years as a
counselor with the Rains Independent
School District of Emory,, is a U.S.
Marine Corps veteran and owns and
operates a small farm.
Mozelle and Pete (C.L.) Johnson of Sulphur Springs will
celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary Saturday, June
28, with a reception from 9:30 until 11 a.m. at Woodhaven
Nursing Home on Jackson Street. Hosting the event will be
Mr. and Mrs. Benny Johnson and Glenn Johnson, all of
Sulphur Springs. Friends and relatives are invited to at

Guilty plea made
by local woman
61st Anniversary
A former Sujphur Springs
. Municipal Court'clerk received a
probated sentence, a fine, and was
ordered to pay more than $13,000 in
restitution after pleading guilty to a
charge of theft by a public servant,
District Attorney Frank Long said
Thursday.
Susan Gatewood, 33, was sentenced
Wednesday by 8th Judicial District
'Judge Lanny Ramsay to 10 years
probation and ordered to pay a $1,500
fine as well as make restitution of
$13,200 to the city, according to Long.
. Under the conditions of her parole,
Gatewood must pay the full amount
of restitution by 5 p.m. Thursday. If
Gatewood does not make payment by
the end of the working day, she will be
in violation of her parole, the district
attorney said.
She must make payment through
either the district attorney's office or
the probation office, who will then
turn the money over to the city. Long
addtd that the money must be paid in
cash and in one lump sum.
Gatewood was arrested on the 2nd
degree felony theft charge May 28,
after an investigation showed more
than $13,000 missing from the
Municipal Court’s funds. The
misappropriation of monies occurred
over a three-year period, according
to City Manager David Tooley.
The theft was first discovered in
April, and was confirmed by an in-
dependent auditing firm May 8.
At that time, Tooley contributed the
delay in finding the missing money’to
a breakdown of internal checks.

Sue Horchem, assistant vice
president of City National Bank, has
completed the Southwestern
Graduate School of Banking at
Southern Methodist University.
She completed the professional
three^year program.
Mr. and Mrs. Ross L. Horton of Ridgeway will celebrate
their 61st wedding anniversary Friday, June 27, with their
family. The Hortons have been living in the Ridqeway
community for 50 years and have three children, WilliamiA
Horton, Billy J. Horton, both of Ridgeway, and Mis^
Delores Horton Harper of Campbell.
Two arraigned for
transporting
Two San Antonio residents who
were arrested in Hopkins County last
week for transporting illegal aliens
were released on bond in U.S. District
Court in Tyler Monday
Jesus Perez, 52, and Aurora Garcia
Perez, 32, were each released on a
$5,000 unsecured bond, according to
Chief Deputy Marshal E.W Ben--
ningfield.
Benmngfield said the couple signed
a bond, but did not have to supply any
cash-
Transporting aliens is a federal
offense punishable by up to five years
in prison and a fine not to exceed
$2,000 or both.

The couple were driving a van,
which was confiscated along with a
.25-caliber pistol.
Bassham said* that to his
knowledge, this was the first case in
Hopkins County that smugglers had
been arrested bringing aliens into the
area.
The U.S Immigration and
Naturalization Serivce's Anti- ]
smuggling Unit will handle the case,
according to Benningfield. However,
INS officials could riot be reached for
comment.
