Joseph H. Scott
Funeral services for Joseph Henry
Scott, 75, of 111 Lou Ave., were held
Thursday in the Tapp Funeral Home
chapel with the Rev. Gaither L. Day
and the Rev. Michael House of-
ficiating. Burial was in Restlawn
Memorial Park.
Pallbearers were Mike Scott, Joe
Reid Scott, Bill Cullen, Wendell
Sapaugh, Bob Moreland, Charles
Garcia, John Sheffield and Mike
Gamer. Honorary pallbearers will be
members of the Bishop Ward Sunday
School Class at the First United
Methodist Church.
Mr. Scott died at 3:13 p.m, Tuesday
in the Scott & White Hospital in
Temple.
He was born April 18, 1911, in Altus,
Okla., the son of Bryson and Ethel
Wade Scott. He married Winnifred
Ford Dec. 25, 1941, in Hopkins
County. She survives.
He was a member of the First
United Methodist Church and a,
veteran of World War II, having
served in India.
He retired from Lone Star Gas Co.
in Dallas after working 25 years.
Other survivors include a son,
Stephen Ford Scott of Dallas; a
daughter, Cindy Moreland of
Chicago; four grandchildren; and a
brother, Wade Scott of Sulphur
Springs.
Troy F. Shipley
Funeral services for Troy Felix
Shipley, 63, of Route 5, Sulphur
Springs, were held Wednesday in the
Tapp Funeral Home chape! with the
Rev. Guy Mays and the Rev. Jack
Nivens officiating. Burial was in the
Greenview Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Bill Gibson, Paul
Stewart, Ernie Weaver, Ussles
Grayson, T.D. Gafford, Mack
Newsome and J T. Martin.
Mr. Shipley died Tuesday at his
daughter's residence in Mesquite.
He was born April 27, 1923, in
Madill, Okla., the son of Godfrey
Frank and Mary Ann Schrimscher
Shipley
He was a member of the Baptist
Church and the VFW He was a
veteran of. the U S. Army in World
Warll.
He was retired from heavy -con-
struction work
Survivors include a daughter,
Suzanne Shipley Taylor of Mesquite;
a grandson; a brother. Dale Shipley
of Dallas; three sisters, Ixiuise
Grayson and Mable Wiler, both of
Sulphur Springs, aruH-loise White of
Alto.
Mr. Shipley was preceded in death
bv a sister. Audre\ Weaver, on Aug
17,1986.

Funeral services for Paul Ray
Murray, 65, of Route 4, Sulphur
Springs, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday
in the Tapp Funeral Home chapel
with the Rev. John Hicks officiating.
Burial was in the City Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Roger Plum-
mer Jr., Billy Southerland, Russell
Edwards, J.W. Edwards, George Bell
and Troy Gay.
Mr. Murray died Friday in Hopkins
County Memorial Hospital
He was born Jan. 5,1921, in Hopkins
County, the son of J.J. and Loda
English Murray. He married Pansy
Lucille Jones Feb. 26,1944, in Sulphur
Springs. She survives.
He retired from Pratt Packing Co.
after 25 years. He was a member of
the Gifford’s Chapel United
Methodist Church.
Other survivors include three sons,
Jack Murray of Cooper, Roger
Murray of Grand Prairie and Tony
Murray of Sulphur Springs; two
daughters, Nina Cook of Sulphur
Springs and Paula Doss of Ridgeway;
11 grandchildren; a brother, Milton
Murray of Houston; four sistters,
Mary Morris of Sulphur Springs,
Juliet Wilson of Richardson, Rebecca
Smith of Colleyville, and Vera
Holcomb of Dallas.
Mr. Murray was preceded in death
by two brothers and a sister.
Thera B. Thurman
Funeral services for Thera B
Thurman, 87. of 1333 Jefferson St.,
were held Thursday in the First
Baptist Church sanctuary with the
, Rev Charles Redmond and Steve
Horton officiating. Burial was in the
Richland Cemetery in the Brinker
Community.
Nephews served as pallbearers.
Mrs. Thurman died Wednesday at
Hopkins County Memorial Hospital.
She was born Oct. 5, 1899, in
Hopkins County, the daughter of E M
Horton and Alice Bullock Horton-She
married Chester L. Thurman, who
preceded her in death.
She was a member of the First
Baptist Church, where she was a
former adult worker in the children’s
chapel
Survivors include two brothers,
Hobart Horton . of Lubbock and
Halsard E. Horton of Odessa; a
sister, Mrs. E.R. McKeever of
Sulphur Springs: and two stepsons,
Elzie l>eon Thurman of Anson and
Richard L. Thurman of Brownwood.
Mrs. Thurman was preceded in
death by four brothers and a sister.
Connie Jewel Green
Funeral services for Mrs. Connie
Jewel Henley Green, 48, of 120 Booker
St., Commerce, were held Tuesday in
Tapp Funeral Home Chapel with the
Rev. Ralph L Williams officiating.
Burial was in Mel Haven Cemetery.
Pallbearers were John Adair, Willie
Martin, Leon Hines, Joe Green,
Douglas Stigner and Willie Booth.
Mrs. Green died Saturday in
Citizens General Hospital in Com-
merce. -
She was born March 8, 1937, in
Sulphur Springs the daughter of Phil
T. and Faula Mae Boose Henley.
She was a housewife and a member
of the Full Gospel Penticostal Church
in Commerce.

1965 in Cooper. He survives of
Commerce.

McLane, 17, of Channel View were
held Monday in the San Jacinto
Funeral Chapel in Houston with the
Rev. Milton Koonce officiating.
Graveside services were held at 10
a m. Tuesday, Dec. 2, in the Conner
Cemetery in Dike.
Mr. Mcl^ane died Friday at 9:30
a m. in Houston Hospital as a result
of injuries received in a traffic ac-
cident on Thanksgiving Day.
He was born in Houston March 15,
19&9, the son of Troyce and Patsy
i Tubbi McLane.
He was a junior at Channel View-
High School in Houston.
Survivors include his father,
Troyce McLane of Sulphur Springs;
his mother and stepfather, Patsy and
Jim Hilton of Channel View; three
brothers, Darren, Brad and Reese
Hilton, all of Huffman; two sisters

grandparents, Mrs. Lynna McLane of

Funeral services for Nellie M.
Jones, 82, of Ixis Angeles, Calif.,
formerly of Hopkins County, were
held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the
Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with the
Rev A.D Sanders officiating. Burial
was in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
She died Nov. 19 in lx>s Angeles,
Calif.
She was born July 4, 1904, in the
Pleasant Hill Community, the
daughter of Matt Jones and Julie Ann
Jones.
She was a member of the Baptist
Church. T
Survivors include a daughter, three
granddaughters, three great-
granddaughters; six sisters and two
'"'brothers. ,

Services for Robert Neal, 67, of
Greenville and a former Sulphur
Springs businessman were held
Friday in Peter's Funeral Home

Burial was in Forest Park
Cemetery in Greenville.

Sulphur Springs at Memorial
Hospital.
He was bom May 16, ’1919, in
Jenkins, Ky., the son of Dewey and
Nancy Neal. He married Ottie Wright
in 1949.
She survi vies.
Mr. Neal was a World War II U.S.
Air Corps veteran, a retired air-
conditioning businessman and was a
member of Central Assembly of God
Church in Greenville.
Other survivors include a son,
Donald Neal of Greenville; three
daughters, Sue Carol Shockey of
Birthright; Donna Johnston of the
Philippines and Barabara Hastings of
Batesville, Ark.; a sister, Margaret
Belloit of Florida; seven grand-
children; and two great-
grandchildren.
Mr and Mrs. Bascom Walker of
Sulphur Springs had as Thanksgiving
guests their son and his family, Mr.
and Mrs. Max Walker, Stephanie,
Jeff and Todd. Also visiting was Mrs

completed one station unit training
(OSUT) at the U.S. Army Infantry
School in Georgia. He is a 1986
graduate of Sulphur Springs High
School.
THERE WERE eight volunteer
drivers to transport cancer patients
to Paris and Dallas during the month
of October and November.
WORD HAS been received on the
death of Mrs. Aria Hazen, Hut-
chinson, Kan., who died unexpectedly
Sunday in her home. She was the
mother of a former Sulphur Springs
resident, Mrs. Tim Hunt and had
several friends here.
DAVID REED, program chair-
man, will provide a film on the Dallas
Cowboys’ 1985 season for the Rotary
Club’s session at noon Thursday in
.the Woman's Building.
MIDDLE SCHOOL and High School
students will receive report cards
Thursday instead of Wednesday.
IF STATISTICS are any indication,
the whole-herd buyout plan instituted
by Congress appears to have missed
its mark in Hopkins County. The
program, designed to reduce milk
production, seems to have had little
effect on October’s milk report.
Hopkins County production rose 2.46
percent. The county’s 461 dairymen
produced almost 50 million pounds of
milk, according to the Texas Milk
Market Report.
ANY INDIVIDUAL or organization
that would like to participate in the
Hopkins County Annual Christmas
Parade on Dec. 6, should call and
register with James Hulen at Hulen
Photography at 229 Main St., or call
885-6466. Everyone is Welcome and all
entries are appreciated, according to
Hulen. There will be a decorated bike
contest for the children. And for the
best commercial float and best
decorated car and pickup. The
parade will start at the park and
follow the usual parade route. All
entries should be at the park at 1 p.m.
to line up. The parade will start
promptly at 2 p.m.
KIWANIS CLUB members are
asked to gather up their merchandise
for the club’s annual auction and take
it to the KSST studio by Tuesday
afternoon. Kiwanians are reminded
to leave the pink copy of the mer-
chandise slip with the merchant, tape
the yellow copy to the product and put
the white copy in a box at KSST. The
auction is set for Saturday, Dec. 6.
Tickets are still available from any
local Kiwanian.
PARIS JUNIOR College will offer
credit courses in Emergency Medical
Technology during the spring
semester, according to Chris Tobin,
coordinator of the -college’s EMS
Training Program. Classes will be
taught from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on
Mondays and Wednesdays starting
Jan. 12. Persons interested in the

AIR FORCE Master Sgt. Terry W.
Rowe, son of Avon C. and Helen M.
Rowe of Sulphur Springs, has been
decorated with the Meritorious
Service Medal at Lowry Air Force
Base in Colorado. The Meritorious
Service Medal is awarded
specifically for outstanding non-
combat meritorious achievement or
service to the United States. He is a
health profession recruiter with the
3567th Air Force Recruiting
Squadron.
New manager
Pansy Anglin, Sulphur
Springs life-time resident,
has been appointed
manager of Sulphur
Springs Holiday Inn. She
will replace Ann Roach,
who has been promoted to
director of food operations,
according to Holiday Inn
general manager Ben
Buchanan. Anglin will be
responsible for promoting
the Holiday Inn ih the local
area and the state.
