They Had a Narrow Escape.
Last Friday Jim Warren and
several friends had a very nar-
row escape from being drowned.
They reached the river which
was very high and attempted to
■>’doat with the mail and
some other packages. About
mid-way the swift water capsiz-
ed the boat and then began the
struggle to reach land which the
party did after some assistance
from friends, but it was a very
narrow escape. The mail was
lost but we understand that it
was recovered from a tree top

We could not appreciate a sat-
isfied appetite if we never had a
moment’s hunger, no rest if we
were never tired, nor sunshine if
we should never have an eclipse,
says the Herald of Gospel Liber-
ty. If the Christian life wei’e all
happiness we should doubtless
soon lose our appreciation of its
cherry brightness, but when
some great trial eclipses our
faith and throws us for a time
into the gloom of the clouds of
spiritual uncertainty, then we
waken to the blessing of the sun*
shine of his presence. It is no
doubt true that after a season of
his absence the heart cries more
earnestly and truly for him
whom the soul loves and that cry
not only brings him back to out-
comfort, but some wav it is in
these times of trial and of test
ing that we are brought to see
ourselves as wholly dependent
upon God. When the lesson
is truly and deeply learned we
have made one step into the
light of the real Christian life
and we are never again so great
a stranger to the wonders of his
grace. The eclipse of faith may
be a blessing.

one and a half cents per mile for
any party of fourteen persons
making a single one way trip, all

would be possible under this rate

Woodall is Arrested.
Mother and baby are wonderfully
helped by its use.
ALL DRUGGISTS. SO*. AND S1.00
The news reached Gatesville
this week from Waco through
the sheriff’s department at that
place that Ijoe Woodall was want
ed for theft and to watch out for
him. A little later a message
came that he had been arrested
at Tyler, Texas, by a deputy
sheriff from McLennan county.
It seems from the report that
Lee is charged with theft of $200
from Harry Connell, whom it
was claimed was with Lee Wood
all in Waco a few days prior to
his arrest and that they slept in
the same room at the hotel. That
Connell had the money on him
when he went to bed but when
lie awoke it was gone and so was
Woodall. It is said that when
arrested at Tyler Woodall had
considerable money on him. Both
Connell and Woodall are citizens
of this county.—Gatesville Mes-

Monday afternoon about 6:30
o’clock the first train over Che
Cotton Belt since Sunday 18th
arrived in Gatesville. This is
the longest time in the history
of the town that we have been
without a train since the Cotton
Belt first arrived in Gatesville,
but the railroad this time was
not without a good excuse for at
one time some of its track was
under water fully fifteen feet
deep and much of it was washed
away. In- fact, the Cotton, Belt
suffered considerable loss from
overflow on this end of the
