The friends of both Earl B. Mayfield
and Jas. E. Ferguson were at the
depot in Clifton last Saturday to sec
these two noted candidates as they
were returning to their respective
homes. Both were riding in the same
coach, but not close together. Mr.
Mayfield got off and shook hands with
friends.

Oscar Grimland of the Norse com-
munity was in town Monday for a
short business visit, and gave out the
information that he and Mrs. Grim-
land had another son at their home
since the first of last week. Oscar said
he now had two fine sons and would
not have to work many more years, as
both of them looked like they would
make good farmers. ",

Grimland, while on their way to Whit-
ney from their West Texas ranch.

Capt. G. Amundson, ex-harbor mas-
ter of Galveston, has been here this
week enjoying a visit with people of
his native tongue. He has long sought
this opportunity, he says, of visiting
the good people of Clifton, and the
entire Norwegian settlement, and as
he and his wife were returning from
the Ozarks he stopped off here and
she went on to their home in Galves-
ton. Capt. Amundson has met a num-
ber of the older settlers who were
friends of his brother, who was here
and at Waco fifty years ago, and be-
cause of his extensive travel and ex-
perience with the public, he ha# no
trouble getting acquainted.

G. L. Polk ha# purchased the stock
and ’ fixtures of the Moffatt A Son
garage in this city, and leased the
building for an indefinite period, and
takes charge of same September 1.
Hereafter Mr. Polk’s office will be at
the garage inatead of in the Mercan-
tile building, where he has been for
some time. Mr. Polk Bays ho will
probably have further announcement#
to make next week, but in the mean-
time bo hope" sto be able to serve the
old customers of this popular garage
and add as many new ones as possible.
Mr. Moffatt and hia son have not
made known their future plana, but
their friends hope they will remain
