Mrs. Grace Wardrup died Sunday,
Dec. 22, in Franklin County Hospital
after a long illness. Funeral service
was held at 2 p.m. in the Harvey
Funeral Home in Mount Vernon. She
was bom Oct. 21, 1915. She was, the
daughter of( Charles Briley and
Albitine Henry Briley. She was a
member of the Saltillo Methodist
Church. Survivors! include her

Burglars hit -
two city firms
\ A pair of burglaries, one at Dobson
Tractor Co. and the .other at TIDI,
v tarnished an otherwise calm
Christmas, according to police
reports filed late Thursday morning.
Sometime between 1 pirn. Dec. 24
and 8:15 a.m. Dec. 2|;. bQrglars pried
open a window oh,the west side of the
Dobson Tractor Co i^tiirig on Main
Street, police said.
After gaining' eritry, the burglars
took a Remington Model )100 12-
gauge shotgun valued at $400;
another Remington Model 1100
valued at $380; an H&R .22-caliber ’
revolver with holster, valued $50; a
Bear Magnum compound* bow,
valued at-$250; and $10 in cash.
In a separate incident, burglars
broke out a window and entered the
TIDI building on Interstate 30 West
between 1:23 p.m. Dec. 24 and 11:46
a.m. Dec. 25. Reported stolen was a
cash box containing.$127.

charged in
burglary
A 17-year-old Sulphur Springs man
was arrested Jan. 1 in connection
. .withan early morning burglary at the
old middle school on Connally Street,
according to a police report.
Leslie Rayburn was arrested and
charged with burglary of a building
Jan. 1. He was arraigned before
Municipal Court Judge Roy Johnson
Thursday morning. Bail was set at
$5,000, and Rayburn was refnanded to
Hopkins County Jail. • j
At 5:37 a.m. Jan. 1, the SSPD
received a call frorft a citizen who
observed three white males running
from the old middle school, the report

Almost as fun to watch as the wagon train was the Texas
State Balloon manned by Ivan Konig and Terry Cooper. The
balloon took off Thursday .morning from the lawn west of
the chafnbpr offices as the wagon train began its journey.
It's pilots said they flew across the county making a stop.in
Old Tarrant on a site owned by Charles Sewell. Konig and
Cooper also said that Sulphur Springs was the balloon's firsyt
major Sesquicentennial stop and that they will make
several other landings on the wagon train route.

ticipants of the Sesquicentennial Wagon
Train than the world famous Hopkins County
Stew. Here, two local sisters, Odessa
Bearden, Jeft, of Tarrant and Era Bartlett of
Nelfa, sfewer up a bowl of stew. No doubt the
concoction warmed many a tummy on the
night before the big Thursday sendoff.
Hopkins County Professional Agriculture
Worker* Association members directed the
menu with other organizations chipping in.
