Philips DAR
/^The Capt. David Philips Chapter of
NSDAR met at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb.
8, in the Sulphur Springs State Bank
community room with the regent,
Mrs. Frat Davis, presiding.
Mrs. Kenneth Brice led the
daughters in the opening ritual
followed by the pledge of allegiance
and The American’s Creed.
Mrs. W.S. Long read an article,
“Abraham Lincoln — Legacy of the
Man,” by James Roberts in honor of
Lincoln’s birthday.
The minutes of the Nov. 9 and Jan.
11 meetings were read by Mrs.
Harrell White, recording secretary,
and approved. Mrs. J.C.
Hollingsworth was added to the
Transportation and Safety Com:
mittee, and Mrs. Kenneth Brice was
named co-chairman along with Mrs.
Ben L. Johnson of the DAR Service
for Veterans-Patients Committee.
Plans were made to honor the
disabled servicemen.
The daughters also approved
donations to the Tamassee DAR-
Schoo! and the Kate Duncan Smith
DAR School. It was also aproved to
contribute to the Prsident General’s
Special Project — the air con-
ditioning of the National DAR
Library in Washington, D.C.
Regent Davis suggested that the
chapter members might like to at-
tend a seminar sponsored by the
Hopkin's County Genealogical Sciety
at 2 p.m. Monday, March 24, in the
First National Bank community
room. Mrs. Ronald Bremen of Salt
Lake City, Utah, a represenative of
• Roots Digest," will present the
program on, “An Introduction to
Genealogy.”
Mrs. Brice presented Mrs. L.F.
Bridges Jr. with a past regent’s pin
and commended her for her help in
getting the Capt. David Philips
chapter organized. . —
The program, "Indians of Texas”
was presented by Mrs. Bert Camp-
bell. Mrs. Campbell sprinkled her
review with several humorous
Snecdoles along with the history and
also taught the group some Indian
sign language.
The meeting was adjourned with
the reciting of the Mizpah benedic-
tion.

Hulen, Mrs. Barney Thompson, Mrs.

City Cemetery
Society
The City Cemetery Society met at
10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 10, at Sulphur
Springs State Bank to discuss ac-
tivities during the months of
November through January.
Mrs. Richard Clement, president,
presided over the business meeting
during which committee reports were
given. Mrs. Clement urged everyone
to pick up their Christmas flowers at
the City Cemetery by Feb. 15.
Several memorials were an-
nounced including for Mrs. Lenard
Altenbaumer by Mr. and Mrs.
Carlisle Clement and Mr. and Mrs.
Richard Clement; for Mrs. Marilee
Connally Clement by Mrs. and Mrs.
Tom Estes, Mrs. W.A. Carothers,
Mrs. Ned Connally and Mr. and Mrs.’
Raymond Pogue; and for Mrs. Fern
Jeffress by Mrs. W.A. Carothers,
Mrs. Lucy McRae, Mr. and Mrs. E.L.
Ashcroft Jr. and Mr. and Mrs. Joe

Managers

The Business and Professional
Women's Minute Managers Club of
Sulphur Springs held a Sweetheart
Luncheon Monday, Feb. 10, at Jhe
Woman’s Building.
The meeting was called to order by
President Jane Wheeler, who
welcomed the 29 members and guests
attending. The 1985-86 yearbooks
were presented with special thanks to
Brenda WaIJs for her help in their
preparation.
Members elected Vera Johnson as
the 1986 Club Sweetheart and
presented her with a heart-shaped
box of candy followed by a melody of
Valentine songs by Ann Gideon,
vocalist, and Vicki King, pianist. .
The minutes of the Jan. 13 meeting
and the treasurer's report were read
by Carolyn French. Vera Johnson,
second vice president, made several
suggestions for meeting membership
objectives for the current year and
updated members regarding
membership recruiting awards
Samnue Petross, an associate
member of the Sulphur Springs
Business and Professional Women’s
Club, thanked the Minute Managers
for their help with the Hopkins
County Stew and Style Show held Jan.
28.
The meeting was adjourned with
the Mizpah benediction.
Betty Mitchell will be the guest
speaker for the March 10 luncheon
with a presentation on individual
development.
