Funeral services for Una Cochran,
81, of Duncanville, formerly of
Sulphur Springs, were held Monday,
March 10, in the Laurel Land
Memorial Chapel, Dallas, with the
Rev. Robert Williams officiating.
Burial was in Laurel Land Memorial
Park.
Mrs. Cochran died Friday, March
7, in Midway Park Hospital, Dallas.
She was bom Nov. 21,1904, in Pine
Forest, the daughter of Charley and
Ida Murray.
She was a longtime resident of
Sulphur Springs and a member of
the Methodist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Lou
Jean Cochran; four sons, Deryl
Cochran, Bobby Cochran, Jimmy
Cochran and Kenneth Cochran; six
grandchildren; two great-
grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs.
Irene Grammer, all of the Dallas
area.
Ethel Record
Word has been received by
relatives on the death of Mrs. Ethel
Record. Funeral services were held
Thursday. She died in Fort Worth.
Survivors include two brothers,
Ray Ledford of Grand Prairie and
Roby Ledford of Sulphur Springs;
and two sisters, Zula Sanderson of
Dallas and Addle Sanders of Sulphur
Springs.
Bruce R. Melson
Funeral services for Bruce R.
Melson, 82, of 409 Van Sickle, were
held Wednesday in the Tapp Funeral
Home chapel with the Rev. Gaither
L. Day officiating. Burial was in the
City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Howard
Sapaugh, John Evans, Scott
Sapaugh, Steve Sapaugh, Tony
Sapaugh and Chris Sapaugh.
Mr. Melson died Monday at the
family residence.
He was bom Dec. 9, 1903, in the
Bethel Community, the son of James
and Verna McKinney Melson. He
married Rubye Murrell Aug. 12,
1935, in Vallejo, Calif. She survives.
He was a retired lieutenant in the
U S. Navy and a veteran of World
War II He and his wife were
stationed in Hawaii during the Pearl
Harbor attack He was also a former
hospital administrator at Hopkins
County Memorial Hospital and an X-
ray technician.
Mr. Melson was a member of the
First United Methodist Church.
Other survivors include a
daughter, Murrell Sapaugh of
Houston; four grandsons; and one
great-grandson.

Funeral services for Gordon C.
Barrett, 75, of Chester, formerly of
Hopkins County, were held Wed-
nesday in the Chester Baptist
Church. Graveside services were
held Wednesday in Restlawn
Memorial Park, Sulphur Springs.
Mr. Barrett died at 11:45 p.m.
Sunday at the family residence.
He was bom July 30, 1910, in
Hopkins County, the son of Mr. and
Mrs. I/ee Barrett
He was a retired paint contractor.
Survivors include his wife, Myra
Barrett of Chester; two sons,
Gordon Wayne Barrett and Sam Lee
Barrett, both of Alvin; six grand-
children; eight great-
grandchildren; and a sister; Clara
Hicks of Bridgeport.

Bolin, 78, of Bogota, formerly of
Sulphur Springs, were held Tuesday
in the Talco Cemetery with the Rev.
Rex Key of Lake Highlands Baptist
Church, Sulphur Springs, of-
ficiating.
Mr. Bolin died Sunday in the Red
River Nursing Home in Bogota.
He was bom Oct. 18, 1907, in
Franklin County, the son of Clarence
Bolin and Ora Holder Bolin.
He was a veteran of World War II.
Survivals include two brothers,
Milton Bolin of Talco and Malton
. Bolin of Dallas; and two sister,

Jackson, both of Mount Vernon.

She was bom June 20, 1896, in
Bethel Community in Hopkins
County, the daughter of Ben Witcher,
Alexander and Mary P. FormbyN
Alexander.
She was a .longtime area teacher,
beginning her career at Stouts Creek
and Gaffords Chapel, both Hopkins
County rural schools. She was a
teacher at Houston Elementary
School and a longtime high school
teacher.
Miss Alexander organized the
local chapter of the National Honor
Society. She was also on the faculty
at East Texas State University
where she also received her
master’s degree. She was a member
of First Baptist Church where shb„
served as superintendent of the
Junior Department.
She was a charter member of the
Business and Professional Women’s
Qub and Delta Kappa Gamma. She
was honored by the city when a
street near the high school was
named for her.
Survivors include two sisters,
Miss Grace Alexander of Sulphur
Springs and Mrs. J.C. Jackson of
Lakewood; a brother, Robert
Alexander of Sulphur Springs; four
nephews; and two nieces.
She was preceded in death by two
sisters, Miss Mildred Alexander and
Mrs. Adrian Green.
David Elliott
Funeral services for David Elliott,
82, of 638 Jefferson St., were held
Sunday in the Tapp Funeral Home
chapel with the Rev. W.O. Watwood
and the Rev. James Brown of-
ficiating. Burial was in the Sharp
Cemetery.
Grandsons served as pallbearers.
Mr. Elliott died Thursday in
Hopkins County Memorial Hospital.
He was bom May. 28, 1903, in
Dunlap, Tenn., the son of Robert Lee
and Sarah Ellen Smith Elliott.- He
married Leota Anderson Dec. 2,
1939, in Martin. She survives.
He was a retired employee of the
railroad and a member of the
Church of God.

She married W.B. Delafield, who
preceded her in death in 1959.
She was a homemaker and a
member of the First Baptist Church,
Cumby. She was a longtime resident
of Cumby. *-
Survivors include a daughter,
Delores Stanley of Sulphur Springs;
three brothers, George Adair of
Sulphur Springs, Jimmy Adair and
Lee Adair, both of Corpus Christi;
and two grandsons.
She was preceded in death by her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar B.
Adair.

Hopkins County. She preceded him
in death in 1978.
He was a retired maintenance
serviceman and a member of the
Baptist Church.

Stephanie S. Moore, whose husband,
Daren, is the son of Bobby and
Mildred Moore of Commerce, has
completed recruit training at Recruit
Training Command, Orlando, Fla.
During Moore’s eight-week training
cycle, she studied general military
subjects designed to prepare her for
further academic and on-the-job
training in one of the Navy’s 85 basic
fields. A 1984 graduate of Lincoln
High School, Dallas, she joined the
Navy in November of 1985.

brother, Charles Robert Vaculik, on
Friday, March 21, at 7:58 a.m. in
Hopkins County Memorial Hospital.
He weighed 8 pounds, 1 ounce and is
the son of Dr. and Mrs. Sandy
Vaculik. Grandparents are Mr. and
Mrs. J. Robert Sellers of Ballard and
Mrs. Pansy Vaculik of Sugarland.
MR. AND Mrs. Billy Jackson of
Saltillo reported that they found a
balloon near their home. Upon
examination, they discovered the
balloon had traveled from Omaha,
Neb., and was released by kin-
dergarten student, Kerry Kam, from
Mockingbird Elementary School.
Mrs. Jackson said they plan to write a
letter to the child.
MRS. DICK Nordin opened a
brochure containing information
about Branson, Mo., where she
discovered a picture of the motel
where her children, Mr. and Mrs.
Terry Riley, had visited. Upon closer
look, the family recognized some of
its members pictured in an ad for the
piotel. They were enjoying the
swimming pool at the time the pic-
ture was taken, but were unaware of
the shutter snapping.
