Mrs. Dendy died Tuesday in
Hopkins Counts Memorial Hospital.
She was born Oct 18, 1899, in
granddaughter; two great-
grandchildren; and two half-
brothers, Cecil Peddy of San Antonio
and Rex Peddy of Corsicana.

Funeral services for Shelia Pearl
Brown, 89, a former longtime
resident of Telephone and the mother
of a Sulphur Springs resident, were
held Wednesday in the Wise Funeral
Home chapel with Herbert Wilson
officiating.
Burial was in the Willow Wild
Cemetery with grandsons serving as
pallbearers.
Mrs. Brown died Monday at the
leisure Lodge Nursing Home.
She was born July 26,1897, in Pilot
Point, the daughter of William
Savanah and Mary Isabell Fredrick
Puckett. She married Luther F.
Brown in ,1920. He preceded her in
death in 1959.
She was a homemaker and a
member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include three sons,

Brown and William S. Brown, both of

She was bom April 26, 1926, in
Texarkana, the daughter of John
Brown and Mary McWright Brown.
She was a Laneville teacher and a
member of the Order of the Eastern
.Star, Texas State Teachers
Association and the Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband,
Steve Vaughn of Mount Enterprise; a

Mr. Nabors died Tuesday in a
Dallas Veterans Hospitial.
He was born April 6, 1917, in
Riverside, Calif., the son of Hugh
Randolph and Altie F. Boone Nabors.
He married Athena Jefcoat April
11,1947, in Wheeler. She survives.
He was a retired City of Sulphur
Springs employee and a member of
the American legion and Veterans of
World War II. Mr. Nabors served in
World War II in the U.S. Army. A
sergeant, he participated in six
campaigns with the 45th Division. He
was a prisoner or war for seven
months.
He holds the Good Conduct Medal,
Bronze Star. Silver Star. American
Defense Ribbon, Purple Heart. Pearl
Habor Medal and Infantry;, Combat
Badge.

weekly meeting a film was shown
about the Dallas Cowboys. But before
the action began, a Rotary member
asked that the curtains be closed and
the room darkened At that point, a
voice from the audience said,,"What

elected Thursday afternoon to serve
as president-elect and vice president
of the Rotary Club during the 1987-88
club year and as president during the
following year. David Reid and Ike

law which became effective in

ticket for driving without liability-

hears reports
County court records
BILL HAYTER of Hayter
Engineering in Paris presented a
report Monday afternoon to the
Hopkins County Commissioners
Court concerning a proposed
professional services contract for the
recently awarded $135,000 grant the
county received that will be used to
build a facility for Northeast Texas
Industries sheltered workshop>The
court also approved payment o?
outstanding bills and adjourned to/n
executive session to discuss pending
litigation. ’
RECENT VOLUNTEERS at the
Sulphur Springs Public Library were
Tom Edwards, Doris Graham and
Jean Berger.
THE AGRICULTURE Workers
Association members Thursday were
especially happy to see County
Jiidge-elect Joe Pogue at their
weekly breakfast meeting. Pogue, a
self-avowed cook, supplied the group
with homemade peach preserves
which he and his wife prepared.
JERRY MORRIS is expected to be
officially appointed as president of
East Texas State University during
the board of regents meeting Friday
in Commerce. Morris was named at a
news conference Nov. 24 to succeed
Charles J. Austin. He will assume his
new duties on Jan. 1,1987.
ARMY PVT. Paul B. Honeycutt,
son of Bill R. Huneycutt of Sulphur
Springs and Virgina Floyd of Ten-
nessee, has arrived for duty with the
2nd Armored Division at Fort Hood.
Huneycutt is a calvary scout.
Older Texans
may defer
tax payments
Texans 65 years of age or older can
postpone paying delinquent property
taxes on their homesteads by taking
advantage of a tax option called over-
65 deferral. The elderly homeowner
simply signs a deferral affidavit at
the Hopkins County Appraisal
District office.
However, the taxes will eventually
have to be paid when the elderly-
homeowner no longer lives in the
home.
The county 4-H Council. met
Tuesday. Nov. 25, at the First
National Bank Community Room
with 2j) members in attendance.
President 3d arty M. Kmzie'called the
meeting'to order Teeny Turner led
the 4-H if;, rt. and' pladge. Marci
McKinzie called roll ^nd read the,
minutes of the previous meeting.
Susan Allen gave the treasurer's
report.
Club reports were given by each
delegate. Old business was completed
and new business was discussed. An
evaluation form was completed by-
council members as part of the 4-H
Management pilot program. The
council voted to hold a Valentine
party Feb 13,1987
Extension Agent Johanna Easdon
explained details- of the preferred
customer cards the County 4-H could
sell as a fund raiser More details will
be available at a later date.
Those attending the -Teen Leader
Retreat in Brownwood were
reminded to submit ifi25 for
registration as soon a"s‘po's5|ble. The
retreat is scheduled for Jan. 16-18.
Ten members w ill be attending.
Upon adjournment, Johanna
presented each member and leader a
gift and played a package exchange
game. Refreshments were served by
Dike 4-H Club.
