Maxwell Pickens, both of Tyler, were
united in marriage at 4:30 p.m.
Saturday, July 5, in the First United
Methodist Church of Mineola.
The Rev. Gerald Phillips of
Mineola officiated at the double-ring
ceremony.
The bride is the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Harve H. Chapman of
Mineola. Mr. Chapman is formerly of
Sulphur Springs. The bridegroom is
the son of Mr. and Mrs. Melvin E.
Pickens of Sherman.
The bride is the niece of Mr. and
Mrs. Jack Grant of Sulphur Springs
and Mr. and Mrs. W.S. “Pete” Long
of North Hopkins. She is also the
granddaughter of the late Mrs. Mabel
Chapman of Sulphur Springs.
Mrs. Cindy McDaniel, sister of the
bride of Dallas, attended her sister as
matron of honor.
Attending the bride as her
bridesmaids were Lisa Chapman,
cousin of the bride of Dallas, Na,ncy
Pickens, sister of the bridegroom of
Sherman, Charla Specht of Lindale
and Marcey Stipes, cousin of the
bride of Flint, Mich.
Jennifer Holley, niece of the
bridegroom of Temple, Okla., served
as the flower girl.
Dr. Jim Pickeris of Waxahachie,
brother of the bridegroom, attended
his brother as the best man.
Groomsmen were Keith Bailey of
Longview, Wayne Holley, brother-in-
law of the bridegroom of Temple,
Okla., Patrick McDaniel, brother-in-
law of the bride of Dallas, and Jeff
Peterson of Tyler.
Steve Davis of Dallas served as
usher. Candlelighters were Michael
Holley, nephew of the bridegroom of
Temple, Okla., and Lane Harder of
Mineola.
Music during the ceremony was
provided by Miss Kelly Dykes of Van,
organist; and Miss Cathy Dykes of
Van, soloist.
Following the ceremony, a
reception was hosted by the bride’s
parents at their home on Lake
Brenda in Mineola.

lance fashion coordinator.

Sherman High School and is em-
ployed as the manager of Com-

Young Family
The Joe S. Young family of the
Mount Sterling community gathered
Sunday, June 8, at the Hopkins
County Civic Center for fellowship
and a memorial dinner with 55 per-
sons attending.
The late Joe S. Young and his wife,
Mollie Davis Young, had two children
present, Mary Elizabeth Bethel
Young Jackson of Dallas and Theo
Davis Strong of Fort Worth. It was
reported that Xuma Weddle, a
daughter, was hospitalized in San
Angelo. Another daughter, Dorothy
Hindman of Seattle, Wash., is
recovering from eye surgery. A
nephew of “Mr. Joe,” Grady Moore
of Dawson Creek, British Columbia,
Canada, was reported to be seriously
ill at the time of the reunion.
Bethel Young Jackson asked her
niece, Jonell Young Jackson, Cecil
and Vanny Young’s daughter, to
present a program. She and her
husband, Bill, presented a slide show
they had made last spring in Russia.
"Young Family Trivia," based on
the book written by Mary E. young
Jackson and "The Young Family
1790-1970,” included everyone. A cup
enscribed with the children’s names
was given to each family present. The
highlight of the program was the
awarding of an original oil painting
by Mary E. Jackson to Mary Green, a
guest of Bubba Young.
The business session was con-
ducted by Mrs. Robert Estes, a niece.
Guests attending the reunion in-
cluded Mrs. Gladys DeBord, Freida
I^ewright, Velma Dunn and Mr. and
Mrs. Lee Mdntire, all of Sulphur
Springs.
The final memorial program w^s
given by Mrs. Jess (Theo) Strong.

Saturday, May 31, in the County Line
Baptist Church.
The Rev. Mike Edmondson, pastor
of Greenpond Baptist Church in
Como, officiated at the double-ring
ceremony.
The bride is the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Flavy M. Brewer of Como.
Parents of the bridegroom are Mr.
and Mrs. Troy L. Martin of Sulphur
Springs and Mrs. Mavis Dunlap of
Ozona.
The samrt|)ary of the church was
decorated with a brass archway with
greenery, pink and burgundy flowers
and bows with white bells and open
fans. Pews were marked with pink
bows trimmed with burgundy
flowers.
Given in marriage by her parents,
the bride wore a formal gown of white
taffeta overlaid with lace and
featuring a fitted bodice with a U"
neckline trimmed with pearls. Pearls
also trimmed the lace sleeves which
were puffed before coming to a cuff
closed with pearl buttons
Her veil was handmade of illusion
with appliqued roses and edged with
pearls and was attached to a lace
crown decorated with pearls.
She carried a cascade of pink and
burgundy roses with pink, gray and
burgundy streamers.
The bride also carried out the
tradition of something old, a Bible her
mother carried at her wedding:
something new , her dress; something
borrowed, a handkerchief belonging
to a friend. Ruby Mason; something
blue, her garter; and a penny in her
shoe placed there by her grand-
mother, Katie Brewer
Miss Malania Martin, sister of the
bridegroom of Sulphur Springs, at-
tended as the maid of hojior.
Bridesmaid was Miss Debbie Sim-
mons of Como. The attendants wore
pink Tea-length gowns trimmed with
burgundy ribbon. They carried'
bouquets of pink and burgundy roses
with pink, gray antf- burgundy
streamers.

Springs attended as the best man.
Groomsman was John Horton,
brother-in-laft of the bridegroom of

ceremony , a reception wds hosted by
the bride> parents in the fellowship
hall of the church.

Debra Lynn Simmons of Como and
John Paul Keeble of Pickton were
united in marriage at 7 p.m. Friday,
June 27, in the Como Methodist
Church. Don Stanley officiated at the
double-ring ceremony.
The bride is the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. John M. Simmons of Como.
Parents of the bridegroom are Mr.
and Mrs. T.W. Keeble of Pickton.
Given in marriage by her father,
the bride wore a Victorian-style
formal gown of beaded lace featuring
a high lace neckline, embroidered
lace bodice and ruffled yoke. The lace
sleeves extended to form fingertip
points.
Her full, bell skirt was formed from
layers of lace before extending into a
heart-shaped train. Her full-length
veil of illusion and blusher fell from a
beaded headpiece.
She carried a cascade of pink and
lilac silk carnations and roses.
Jamie Denise Simmons of Como
attended as the maid of honor
Bridesmaids were Angela Pavlica'
and Caprjce Morton, both of Garland.
The attendants wore tea-length
gowns of lilac dotted Swiss and
carried bouquets of pink and lilac
carnations.
Nane'ssa Morton of Quinlan served
as the flower girl.
John Christopher Simmons of
Como attended as ring bearer.
Terry Joe Keeble of Houston served
as the best man. Groomsmen were
Mike Swanson and Mike Simmons,
both of Pickton. Candlelighters were
Stephen Simmons and Jeffery
Simmons, both of Pickton.
Music was provided by Larry and
Thressa Duncan and Charlotte
Holley.
Following the ceremony, a
reception was hosted by the'bfide's
parents in the fellowship hall of the
church. Houseparty members in-
cluded Jan Simmons and Brenda
McQueen. Renee Morton presided at
the registry.
Following a wedding trip to
Houston, the couple will make their
home in Crandall.
The bridegroom is a graduate of
Como-Pickton High School. The bride
was graduated valedictorian and
with honors from Como-Pickton High
School in 1986.

son and his fiance with a rehearsal
dinner Thursday, June 26. at Como
Methodist Church following the
