Services for David A. Horton, 53,
of Route 2 in Emory were held
Thursday at the Faith Baptist
Church in Emory with the Rev.
Jimmie Shedd officiating.
Burial was in Mount Sylvan
Cemetery in Mount Sylvan with
members of the Emory Masonic
Lodge serving as pallbearers.
Mr. Horton died Tuesday, July 8,
at the University of Texas Health
Center in Tyler!
He was born Nov. 30,1932, in Hunt
County, the son of David Woodson
Horton and Ola Greer Horton. He
married Juanita Melton of Emory
on Oct. 11, 1952, in Greenville. She
survives.
Mr. Horton was a mechanic and a
verteran of the U S. Army. He was a
member of the Arlington Masonic
I,odge No. 438 AF&AM.
Survivors include his wife; two
sons, Aubrey Dale of Emory, Rockie
Dewayne of Emory; three
daughters, Juanita Gail Jones of
Frankston, Jo Ann Grubbs of
Chandler, and DeAnna Jones of
Paris; his parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Woodie Horton of Celeste; nine
brothers; three sisters; and four
grandchildren.
The Wilson-Orwosky-Stinson
Funeral Home of Emory was in
charge of arrangements.

Oliver and Lillie Conn Brandenburg.
She married James McAuslan in
1924 in Chicago, 111 He preceded her
in death in 1968
She Swas a homemaker and a
member of the United Methodist
Church. She served as a Red Cross
volunteer for many years. y
Survivors include two daughters,
Mrs Carter iJoani Mohrissen of
Sulphur Springs and Mrs. Dwight
Cardiff of Columbus, Ohio; seven
grandchildren; two great-
granddaughters; and a sister,
Thelma Campbell of Lima, Ohio.

Funeral services for Charles
Edgar Childs, 55, of Dallas, formerly
of Sulphur Springs, were held
Thursday at the Tapp Funeral Home
ehapel with Jerr\ Tay lor officiating.
Burial was in the Mel Haven
Cemetery.

pallbearers
Mr Childs died June 20 at his
residence.
He was born June 20, 1931, in
Sulphur Springs, the son of Herman
and Rosia landley Childs.
He was employed by the Mer-
cantile Bank in Dallas
Survivors include his father,
Herman Childs of Sulphur Springs;
eight brothers, Arthur Childs,
Robert Childs, Harold Childs and
Manuel Childs, all of Sulphur
Springs, Herman Childs Jr. of
Shreveport, la., Billy Joe Childs of
Wichita Falls, George W. Childs of
New York City, and Roy Childs of
Greenville; and four sisters, Jessie
Thomas, Juanita Johnson, Fronia
Williams and Margaret Glenn, all of
Sulphur Springs.
Mr. Childs was preceded in death
by his mother.

Graveside services for Celia
Haley Waters, the infant daughter of
Barry and Jackie Chester Waters of
Dike, were held Wednesday in
Restlawn Memorial Park with the
Rev. Perry Johnson officiating.
The infant was born early Monday
afternoon in Sulphur Springs and
died Monday night in Baylor
University Medical Center, Dallas.
Survivors include her parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Barry Waters of Dike;
grandparents, Curtis Waters of
Dike, Patricia Waters of Sulphur
Springs, Uila Chester of Dike and
Joe Chester of Saltillo; and great-
grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Jessie
lee Waters of Dallas, Mr. and Mrs.
Grover Burnett of Yantis, Mr. and
Mrs. Kosi Jennings and Mr. and
Mrs. Kapesi Tu, all of Hawaii.

Smith of 1014 N. Jackson St., Sulphur
Springs, were held Tuesday in the
Tapp Funeral H^fne with the Rev.
L B. Morgan officiating. Burial was
in the North Hopkins Cemetery.
Mr. Smith died Sunday in Hopkins
County Memorial Hospital. He was
61.
He was bom July 19, 1924, in
Hopkins County, the son of T.M. and
Mary Lou Griffin Smith.
He married Beryl Cates, who
preceded him in death in 1973. He
then married I Jllian Giles Marshall
in 1980 in Oklahoma. She survives.
Mr. Smith was retired from Oc-
cidental Chemical in Sulphur
Springs. He was a member of the
Baptist Church and a veteran of
World War II.
Surviving are three daughters
including Diane Alsobrook of Saltillo
and Elaine McDonald of Sulphur
Springs, eight grandchildren; one
great-grandchild; three brothers,
Odie Smith of Sulphur Springs, Alvin
Smith of Springtown and Harvey
Smith of Garland; and four sisters,
Lou Ella Smith of Sulphur Springs.

Nichols of Fort Worth and Faye
Patton of Plano.

Funeral services for Lota Prinnell
of 1826 Wilbur, Dallas, formerly of
Cumby, were held Tuesday in the
Jones Funeral Home Memorial
Chapel in Commerce with the Rev.

Cemetery with cousins serving as
pallbearers.
Mrs. Fbannell died Sunday in the
Dallas Family Center She was 82
She was born April 5, 1904, in
Cumby, to Royal and Stella Belle
Gafford Smith. She married John
Weslgy Prinnell in 1955 in Dallas. He
preceded her in death
Mbs." Prinnell was a housewife and
a member of the Mount Zion Baptist
Church.
Survivors include a sister, Zona

Mr. White was a truck driver and
a member of the Baptist Church.

Funeral services for T.C. Wood of
128 Goodman St., Sulphur Springs,
were held at 4 p.m. Saturday in the
Tapp Funeral Home chapel.
Burial was in the City Cemetery
with grandsons serving as
pallbearers.
Mr.- Wood died at 10:42 p.m.
Thursday in McCuistion Hospital in
Paris. He was 72.
He was bom Oct. 4, 1913, in
Cumby, the son of Will and Mary
Stewart Wood. He married Ethel
Roach March 7, 1936, in Sulphur
Springs. She survives.
Mr. Wood was a retired road
construction worker and a member
of the Baptist Church.
Other survivors include six
daughters, Mary Jo Newman,
Barbara Campbell and Joy Wear, all
of Paris: Wanda Santos of Sulphur
Springs, Peggy Combs of Longview
and Terri Irby of Sulphur Springs;
two sons, Thurman Wood Jr. of
Paris and Eddie Wood of Sulphur
Springs; three sisters, Evelyn Little
of Sulphur Springs, Ruby Newsome
of California and Clorene Watts of
West Virginia; 26 grandchildren and
six great-grandchildren.
Mr. Wood was preceded in death
by a son, Cleophus Wood.

in Mesquite.

held Saturday m the Morning Chapel
Baptist Church with the Rev. A.A

Hopkins County, the daughter of
Ezekiel and Dovie Lewis Harrison.
She married Harry Lewis Jan. 18.

preceded her in death in 1984.

LAURA ELIZABETH Perry of
Sulphur Springs received her
bachelor’s degree in sociology from
Texas Tech University during
commencement exercises at the
conclusion of the 1986 spring
semester. More than 1,700 students
received degrees during the
ceremonies.

and Mrs. Willie Coy Dial of Sulphur
Springs, has been named to the
Dean's List at DeVry Institute of
Technology for the second trimester.
Dial posted a grade point average of
3.06. He is a 1982 graduate of Sulphur
Springs High School.
MRS. BUCK Tillery, 72, of Route 1
in Como has been dismissed from
Presbyterian Hospital in Winnsboro
after undergoing major surgery. She
is doing very well.
THE PLANNING and Zoning
Commission will meet at 7 p.m.
Monday in the Municipal Building to
consider a replat of the WMS Addition
located at 101 Radio Road, to discuss
changes in the commission’s
operating rules and regulations, and
to discuss the proposed thoroughfare
plan.
TWO LOCAL students were among
the 767 students who received their
degrees during commencement
exercises Saturday, May 10, at
Abilene Christian University. Kenna
Dawn McAdams, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Ken McAdams, received a BS
degree in social work, and Eric Earl
Reynolds, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Claude Reynolds, received a BSE
degree in math education and
English education. Among the
degrees received were 608 bac-
calaureate, 13 associate and 146
master’s.
THE REGULAR school board
meeting for the Sulphur Springs
Independent School District, usually
scheduled for the second Tuesday of
each month, will not be held July 8.
According to Superintendent Leonard
Merrell, the tentative date for the
postponed meeting is July 22.
SAM RUSSELL, D-Mount
Pleasant, has ended several weeks of
speculation by announcing that he
will not seek the state Senate seat
vacated by Ed Howard.
STEPHEN RHOADES, son of
Kenneth and Patsy Rhoades of
Sulphur Springs, has been named an
Academic All-American, a national
award he was nominated for by
Sulphur Springs High School ac-
counting teacher Jean Arnold.
Rhoades’ name will appear in the
nationally published Academic All-
American Scholar Directory.
SHANA M. Thompson, grand-
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred
Thompson and Mr. and Mrs. Ernest
Watson of Sulphur Springs, attended
ceremonies June 6 at Trinity
University honoring Texas seventh
graders who participated in Duke
University’s Sixth Annual Search fdr
mathematically and verbally
brilliant students. Thompson and the
other 1627 seventh graders invited to
the ceremonies had obtained scores
on at least one section of the
Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) equal
to or greater than the scores obtained
by 50 percent of college-bound high
school seniors. Thompson is the
daughter of Garry and Mary Jo
Thompson and attends Randolph Air
Force Base Junior High School in San
Antonio.
Vocal entertainer
Miss Sulphur Springs Karol Ann Kelty was well received by
the audience attending the Johnnie Highs Country Music
Show in Fort Worth. Some 21 of the 63 contestants in the 1986
Miss Texas Pageant were invited to perform at the music
show, which was held the night before pageant registration.
Miss Kelty plans to sing as her talent during Thursday
night's preliminary, but the song will not be a country
