Lowell Cable, county Democratic
• Party chairman, said the committee

•'and Nelta resident, was named to the
top county law enforcement position

Sheriff C.W. Grayson in May and the
November election. Members of the
Commissioners Court selected
Bassham for the six-month period.
“My, main objective now is to run
the cleanest sheriff's department that
I can.# Bassham said when
questioned about his future plans. If
elected, he said, he plans to establish
a citizen advisory group that will be
asked to keep the department advised
of local opinion regarding its
operation.

the $600 filing fee Tuesday, which will
officially make Iqpi the Democratic
candidate on the November tidket.

changes its
meeting dates
Responding to concern among the
City Council that it had insufficient
time to review Planning and Zoning
Commission actions before taking
action itself, the commission Monday
changed its meeting time to the
second and fourth Monday of the
month.
On several occasions, items have
come before the council that were
acted upon by the commission the
night before. Some councilmen felt
they needed more time between
meetings of the two boards and
decided at the July 1 council meeting
to request the commission to revise
its meeting dates.
The commission’s decision to meet
on the second and fourth Monday will
provide at least a week before its
actions are reviewed by the council,
