New Beginning
appears off to
good beginning
.After almost four months of
operation, the New Beginnings
program in Hopkins County has
doubled the number of teen-agers it is
. providing service to, thus spuming a
need for a local telephone number
and office for the pregnant teens to
contact, according to program of-
ficials.
■We feel it would be more con-
venient for the girls if they had a local
number to call for assistance,"
Carolyn Long, coordinator for New
Beginnings, said. "We also would like
to introduce our office supervisor.
Laverne Gregg Scoville, who will be
answering the phones at the office
located at the Department of
Health."
Mrs. Scoville, who is a VISTA
worker, will be in the new office from
10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Monday through
Friday. The local phone number is
885-6573
"Because of the growing number of
girls who are needing assistance we
felt having a local number would
easier because my phone number is a
long distance call for them,’ Mrs
Long said When we started in April
we had eight girls ami that number
has grown to 16 in the program"

The drop in oil prices may mean
American consumers will see some of
the lowest heating bills in recent
years when it comes time to put away
their air conditioners in favor of
sweaters and blankets, energy ex-
perts predict.
We will see some of the lowest
prices, not only from oil but from
natural gas. too," Michael Smolinski,
director of world oil service for Data
Resouces Inc. of Lexington, Mass.,
said Tuesday.
Prices in 1985 averaged $1.05 per
gallon. As recently as 1981, the price
was $1.19 per gallon, .up from a low 70-
cent-per-gallon average in 1979.
