Hopkins County Gets Two New Year's Babies

Babies
While people around the
world celebrated the
arrival of 1986 in their own
individual way, three area
, residents were celebrating
the birth of their children
on New Year's Day. Shellia
Johnson of Greenville, left
photo, announced the birth
of a daughter, Angela
Rachell Nicole, at 3:54a.m.
Wednesday, Jan. 1, in
Hopkins County Memorial
Hospital. Some 10 hours
later, Jay and Lisa Johnson
of Yantis announced the
birth of a son, Dire Wayne
Cody, at 2:17 p.m. Jan. 1 in
Memorial Hospital.

Local homes to be featured in exhibit
The homes of several, Sulphur
Springs residents will be featured in
the Historic Texas Homes as shown
by Texas Artists exhibit, a
sesquicentennial celebration spon-
sored by the Fort Worth Woman’s
Council of Realtors.
Paintipgs of the home of Dr. and
Mrs. William Bryant, 414 College St.,
the Thomas home on Jefferson Street
and othef^ocal homes will be on
display by Jo Ann Fanning Durham,
daughter of the late Judge and Mrs.
William J. Fanning.
The exhibit is planned for April 13-
16 at Thistle Hill in Fort Worth.
A wine and cheese opening party ‘
with Mrs. Durham and other artjsts
scheduled to be present will be held
from 2 until 6 p.m. Sunday, April 13.
Cost for the event, which is open to
the public, is $5 and will also include a
tour of Thistle Hill.
Mrs. Durham plans«te work with
members of the Hopkins County
Museum for additional information
on the history of some of the older
homes in Sulphur Springs, she said.
Mrs. Durham will also have a
painting, "Autumn Spectrum,” on
exhibit at the Texas Fine Arts State
Citation Show scheduled for Jan. 12
through Feb. 2 in Austin.
The opening reception of the exhibit
will be held from 2 until 4 p.m. Sun-
day, Jan. 12, at the Arts Warehouse in
Austin.
The Citation Competition was
juried by Eduardo E. Aguilar Sr. of
Tarrant County Junior College.
Awards juror is Pat McCracken,
curator of the Art Center in Waco.
The Texas Fine Arts Association
was organized in 1911, making it one
of the oldest art organizations in
Texas. Its headquarters are on the
grounds of LagunaGloria Museum in
Austin.
Judge Will R. Wilson served as
president of the association from
1964-66. Mrs. Durham served as
president of Region XV from 1978-79,
regional director from 1979-61 and
state board member at large from
1981-82.
