Junior High Volleyball
Teams Attended
Stephenville Tournament
This past weekend two
different Jr. High volleyball
teams attended a tournament
at Henderson Jr. High in
Stephenville. Both of the
teams were combined teams
made up of 7th and 8th
grade players.
Several of these players
are substitutes on the regular
teams for the Jr. High teams.
However at this tournament
they were the main players
on the teams and had quiet
a bit of success. The “white”
team played the Stephenville
“D-2” team first in pool play
and split with them them
15-10 and 6-15. Their next
match in pool play they went
up against Comanche and
defeated them 16-14, 15-8.
They then played Albany
and defeated them 17-15
and 15-13; during both of
the Albany sets we were
down by at least 7 points
and came back to win both
sets. Good serving and
teamwork paid off. The final
match in pool we faced
Copperas Cove Lee and lost
to them 15-6 and 15-7.
However with that record we
advanced to the bracket
round of the tournament.
We went up against
Copperas Cove in the quarter
final round {tf.lhe bracket
tournament. We played hard
but the girls were beginning
to feel the wear and tear on
their bodies from already
playing 4 matches in pool
play. We lost to Cove 12-25
and 14-25.
The “green” team faced
Copperas Cove in the first
round of the tournament
and lost 5-15 and 4-15. Our
second match we went up
against Clyde and were very'
successful defeating them
15-11 and 15-6.
In our third match we went
up against Eastland’s “A"
team and lost 15-6 and 15-
12. We played hard but their
serves were just too much
for us. Our final match we
went up against Stephenville
“D” team and lost 3-15 and
8-15 again their serves were

Jr High 7th Grade Hosted
Eastland Lady Mavericks
On Monday Oct. . 7 the
Lady Mavericks came to
Dublin Secondary school to
play a district volleyball
match against us. Our Gold
team played first and lost
11-25 and 18-25. Our serves
hurt us in this match.
The Green team did not
have much better luck, they
lost 12-25 and 13-25. In the
first set we missed 6 serves
but in the second set we
only missed 1 serve. That
was a major improvement
on our play and this was
also the first time in which
we tried to actually pass, set,
and hit in a match. The game
is coming to these girls and
they are learning so much
and working so hard.
The 7th Grade Green
Team Played in Stephenville
Tournament
On Saturday Oct. 5 the 7th
grade Green team
participated in a tournament
at Henderson Jr. Hi in
Stephenville. This was an
extremely tough tournament
considering we were the only
AA team in the tournament,
only two of the teams were
AAA all the rest were 4A and
5A teams.
They did get the
opportunity to see what type
of volleyball we want them
to be playing by the time
they are 8th graders. In the
first match we went up
against Glen Rose who
defeated us at 4-15 and 4-15,
they had one young lady
that served as well as some
of our varsity players.
The second match was
against 7-15 and 7-15 we did
not miss as many serves in
this set as we did in the first
but we still had trouble
getting into the match.
We then went up against
3A power house Abilene
Wylie we played with them—
having many volleys which
lasted for several trips across
the net but again our
inexperience would catch up
with us, dropping that match
9-15 and 7-15. Our final
match of the day was against
Mineral Wells and we lost it
7-15 and 8-15. ' 7
Every single team that w;
in this tournament have girl
who have the opportunity to
play select or club teams in
the area in which they live.
Our girls only have the
opportunity to touch a ball
from Aug 15-Nov. 1 unless
they want to travel to the
metroplex or Abilene. There
are some groups trying to
get club teams going in the
Stephenville area so maybe
our girls will someday have
the same opportunity that
the girls who live in or closer
to larger cities have.
Two Jr. High Volleyball
Teams Travel to Early to
Face the Lady Longhorns
Two different teams
traveled to Early to play
volleyball against the Early
Lady Longhorns. The teams
were made up of girls who
have not seen a lot of play
this year, or they are subs on
the regular teams. In Early
thesegirlsgottheopportunity
to play an entire match and
gain a lot of experience.
The 7th grade played hard
but came up short losing
their match 18-25 and 22-
25. The 8th grade came out
and lost the first set 20-25
but then we turned things
around. We came out fighting
hard in the 2nd set and won
25-21 and the third was a
very hard fought set, but we
missed one too many serves
and lost it 27-29.
These girls will play at
home on Thursday night
against Stephenville at the
Secondary campus with the
7th grade match beginning
at 5 p.m. followed by the 8th
grade match.
Jr. High LadyBucs Faceofl
Against Jr. High Lady
Lions
On Monday night the Lady
Bucs from Breckenridge Jr
Hi traveled to Dublin for a
District volleyball match.
When we went there the
Green team had a tough
match but ended up losing
to Breckenridge in 3. Tonight
the 7th grade Green team
did not forget that loss nor
did they give Breckenridge
much of a chance to repeat.
The girls played their best
match by far this year,
serving well, passing the ball
to each other, trying to get
more than one touch on the
ball per volley and just flat
out looking and playing like
a volleyball team. We
defeated them 25-14 and 25-
21.
The Gold team made the
night a little more exciting,
we did not serve as well as
we have in the past, but they
hung in there and played
together and eventually
came out on top of their
match too, winning 27-25
and 25-23. These girls will
travel to Hawley next Monday
night for another district
match up.
