Graveside services for Mrs. Mamie
Izora McLaren, 92, of Denton, for-
merly of Sulphur Springs, were held
Tuesday in the City Cemetery with
the Rev. L.B. Morgan officiating.
Mrs. McLaren died Monday at the
Good Samaritan Village in Denton.
She was born March 30, 1893, in
Delta County, the daughter of D.C.
and Lora Gray Houston. She married
W.B. McLaren Dec. 24,1913, in Dike.
He preceded her in death March 30,
1949.
She was a member of the‘Clovis
Street Baptist Church, pallas, and
the Mike H. Thomas Order of the
Eastern Star Chapter No. 951
She was preceded in death by a
brother, E.C. Houston in 1972.
Survivors include two daughters,
Vida Goode and Vera Copus, both of
Denton.
Tapp Funeral Home was in charge
of arrangements.
Jacob Alexander

Alexander, 64, of BOute 1, Como, were
held Tuesday in/the Pickton United
Methodist Church with the Rev. John
Hicks and the Rev. John Allen of-
ficiating. Gravesifie services were

in Dallas.
Mr. Alexander died Thursday in
Hopkins County Memorial Hospital
following a brief illness.
He was born March 24, 1921, in
Arkansas.
He vwas a member of the Picktori:
United Methodist Church and a
retired employee of Braniff In-
ternational.
Survivors include a son, Mark
Alexander of Fairfield, Conn.; a
brother, Jim Alexander of Cody,
Wyo.; a sister, Mrs. Frances Burch of
Irving; and three grandchildren:

Delbert Wilcher
John C. Hooten
Funeral services for Delbert
Wilcher, 75, of Dallas, formerly of the
Nelta and Birthright communities,
were held Tuesday in Restland
Memorial chapel in Dallas with Dr.
Sloan Gentry officiating. Burial was
in Restland Memorial Park.
Mr. Wilcher died Sunday in Doc-
tor's Hospital, Dallas,
He was b<^rn Aug. 21,1910, in Delta
County, the son of Benjamin F.
Wilcher and Mallie Milligan Wilcher.
He was a machinist for an oil well
parts company.
Survivors include his wife, Daisy
Morgan Wilcher of Dallas; a son,
Billy Wilcher of TerrelL; two grand-
children: two sisters, Mable Rushing
and Nora May Van, both of Dallas;
and two brothers, Eugene Wilcher of
Dallas and .Glen D Wilcher of

Funeral, services for John Clee
Hooten, 69, a former resident of
Sulphur Springs, were held Friday,
Feb. 7, in the chapel of the Emken-
Linton Funeral Home in Texas City
with the Rev. Mike Withers of-
ficiating. Burial was in Grace
Memorial Park in Hitchcock. <
Mr. Hooten died Feb. 5 in Texas
City.
He was bom May 6,1916, in Sulphur
Springs, the son of Asa D and Eva
Richards Hooten.
He was retired from Todd
Shipyards where he was a welder.'
Survivors include his wife, Gladys

Springs, has graduated from Air
Force basic training at lackland Air
Force Base, Texas. During her six
weeks of training, Brandenburgh
studied the Air Force mission,

received special training in human
relations. She is a 1985 graduate of
Sulphur Springs High Schopl.
‘ JULIE ANNE Sapaugh, 21-year-old
daughter of Wendell and Helen
Sapaugh of Sulphur Springs, was
named to the Dean's List at Baylor
University for the Fall 1985 semester.
She is a senior at Baylor and plans to
receive a bachelor's degree in
education in August 1986. She is a 1983
graduate of Sulphur Springs High
School.

John Ferguson
Funeral services for John
Ferguson, 83, of 424 Texas St., were
held Monday in the Murray-Orwoskv
Funeral Home chapel with the Rev.
H E. Smithee and the Rev. M.C. Allen
officiating. Burial was in Restlawn
Memorial Park.
Pallbearers were Bobby Kerby,
K.C. Holcomb, Paul Newby, Jackie
McQueen, Arthur Coursey and Clyde
Warner.
Mr. Ferguson died Saturday in
Hopkins County Memorial Hospital.
He was born Dec. 20, 1902, in
Hopkins County, the son of Jasper
and Ora Asbill Ferguson. He married
Rosey Belli Potter April 14, 1929, in
Sulphur Springs. She preceded him in
death in 1970. In 1984, he married
Oggie Lou Cannon in Sulphur
Springs. She survives.
Other survivors include a son, the
Rev. Benny Ferguson of Columbia,
Mo.; and two grandchildren.
Julia F. King
Funeral services for Mrs. Julia F.
King, 79,1617 Erwin Lane, were held
Saturday in the Tapp Funeral Home
Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Putnam
officiating. Burial was in the Shooks
‘Chapel Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jack Huff-
stettler, Eddie Shields, Thelbert
Davis, Billie Anderson, Marvin
Jones and Elton Stewart. ‘

She was born August 8,1906, in San
Angelo to A.J. and Julia Damory
Fritz. She married Thomas C. King
Nov. 10,1928, in Pittsburg, Pa.
She w as a housewife, a member of
the Wesley United Methodist Church
and the Order of the Eastern Star.
She is survived, by her husband,
Thomas King of Sulphur Springs; a
daughter, Joan Mund of .Sulphur
Springs: a sister, Yolan Probandt of
San Angelo; five grandchildren; and
three great-grandchildren.
Mrs. King, was preceded^ death
by a son and a daughter.
C.G. Watts
Funeral services for C.G. Watts, 64,
of Lancaster, formerly, of Cedar
Creek I^ake and Miller Grove, were
held Friday in the Tapp Funeral
Home with the Rev. Robert Ridley
officiating. Burial was in the Miller
Grove Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Wayne Nance,
I^rry Woodard, Joe McClain, Glen
Blankenship, Pete Harvelle and
David Price.
Mr. Watts died Tuesday at the
family residence.
He was born March 6, 1920, in
Miller Grove, the son of John Mack
and Mitte Mae Jones Watts. He
married Verlin Burks in 1945 in
Rockwall. She preceded him in death
in October of 1983.
He was a retired printer. He was a
member of the United Methodist
Church and a veteran of World War
II.
Survivors include a stepdaughter,
Sally Terrell of- Mount Pleasant; a
brother, Johnny M. Watts of Cedar
Creek Lake; two sisters, La Verne
Cox of Lancaster and LaVera
Johnson of Mesquite; and two
grandchildren.
Mr. Watts was also preceded in
death by a son, John W. Watts.

teachers, Becky Flippin stays busy as an aid at Lamar
School. Mrs. Flippin has been named the Education All-Star
for this week by the Educational Committee of the Chamber
of Commerce. She often volunteers to help students with
special needs and enjoys designing bulletin boards such as
.the Sesquicentennial bulletin board in the cafeteria. Em-
ployed with Sulphur Springs Independent School District
for seven years, Mrs. Flippin's family consists of her
husband, Tony, and sons, Toby and Josh.

The Hopkins County Child Welfare Board of
Directors are approachingt their goal of
having enough funds available to purchase
video equipment to be used bv the protective
services specialists in their various welfare
