Funeral services for Orville W.
(Plug) Dutton, aged 60, of China
Spring, were held at 10:00 o’clock
on Monday morning, October 22,
at Compton’s Funeral Home Chap-
el in Waco, with Reverend Roy
Hill and Reverend Paul Smith of*
ficiating. Burial followed in Oak-
wood Cemetery at Waco.
Mr. Dutton, a former resident
of Meridian, died in the Clifton
hospital at noon on Saturday, Oct-
ober 20, after having suffered a
heart attack a few minutes before
arriving at the hospitaL
Having served as mayor of Meri-
dian for eight years, Mr. Dutton
lived in that city for approximate-
ly 12 years before moving to China
Spring a year ago.
Mr. Dutton was born and edu-
cated in Waco and spent all of
his life there before moving to
Meridian. He attended Waco High
School, where he was captain of
the famous Waco High football
team of 1921 coached by Paul Ty-
son, and was honored in dedica-
tion ceremonies of Paul Tyson
Field there last year.
Several years ago Mr. Dutton
was manager of the Waco Lumber
Company. Then he owned and ope-
rated the Meridian Lumber Com-

Vern Bergman, and her grand-
daughter, Vickie Conrad, and Mrs.
Turner Greenwade and daughters,
Donna and Sally, of Clifton, were
in Tyler on Saturday, October 20,
to attend the Rose Festival Parade
and also to enjoy the flower show.
The local folks particularly en-
joyed the parade, as Miss Mary K.
Pederson, a niece of Mrs. Bergman
and Mrs. Greenwade, rode in the
parade in her capacity aa the Duch-
ess of Kilgore. She is a daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. O. N. Pederson, of
Kilgore.
Ed Kleine has paid to have The
Clifton Record mailed during the
coming year to their son, Edmond
R. Kleine, at Fort Stockton as a
birthday gift.

Mid-year meeting of the Gates-
ville District Woman's Society of
Christian Service will be held at
the Stephenville First Methodist
Church beginning at 9:30 A M.
on Thursday, November 1, with
Mrs. Lee McCullough, of Morgan,
district president presiding.
Mrs. Richard Douthit, of Fort
Worth, Conference Secretary of
Student Work, will be the guest
speaker. All members and guests
are invited to attend the meeting.

Clifton; Mrs. Pat Holt, of Gates-
ville; Mrs. Hugh McClesky and

Hamilton; Mrs. Rannel Graves, of
Oglesby; Mrs. J. W. Raines, of
Meridian; Mrs. A. W. Hering Sr.
and Mrs. Jack Garrett, of Mc-
Gregor; and Mrs. L. R. Mappe, of
Crawford.
A nursery will be provided for
small children, and lunch will be
served at the noon hour by the
ladies of the Stephenville church.
NEW COTTAGE COURT OWNERS
Mr. and Mrs. D. C. Hudson, who
formerly made their home in Den-
ton, are the new owners of the
Cottage Courts Motel in Clifton.
The Hudsons, who recently took
active charge of the property here,
are experienced in this line of
work, as they operated a motel in
Denton prior to purchasing the
property here.

HAVE TACKY PARTY OCT. 20
The young people of the Assemb-
ly of God Church were entertained
with a Tacky Party at the home of
Mr. and Mrs- Burl Sparks on Sat-
urday, October 20.
The group enjoyed playing games
and participating in n period of
devotion.
Prizes were given to the girl
and boy dressed the tackiest. Mrs.
Molly Nelson and Kenneth Sparks
won these prises. Refreshments
were served to 16 guests.

where they visited with their son
and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs.
Bob Lane, and also attended the
Texas-Arkansas football game. Fol-
lowing the game they spent the
remainder of the week-end at the
Stagecoach Inn in Salado, where
they were joined by Mr. and Mrs.
Ray Berry and daughter, Peggy.
Mrs. Berry and Peggy returned
from Salado to Victoria, where
Mrs. Berry teaches in the public
schools.
