Mr. Blackman is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. F. F. Blackman of Hector, Ark.,
and is a graduate of Angleton High
School. He was recently discharged
from the Army in which he served
17 months.
The couple left for a two weeks’
honeymoon in South Texas.
Out-of-town guests at the wedding
included Mrs. Nannie B. Tipton and

In a quiet and simple double ring
ceremony Saturday, Dec. 14 in the
home of Rev. E. R. Stanford, pastor of
the First Methodist Church, Miss
Joyce Sylvia Johnson, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Johnson, 414 South
Miller Ave., Breckenridge, Texas, be-
came the bride of Mr. J. G. Springer
Jr., Cordell, Okla.
The bride wa3 lovely in a blue-grey
suit of soft wool with black acces-
sories, and wore a corsage of white
carnations. She carried out the tradi-
tion of something old, something new,
something borrowed, and something
blue. For something old, she wore a
rose gold bracelet belonging to Mrs.
Minnie Renfro, and borrowed a blue
lace handkerchief from Mrs. Eugene
Tolle.
Mrs. Springer’s only attendant was
Mrs. Eugene Tolle, who wore a grey
and gold wool jersey dress with brown
accessories, wearing a corsage of pink
carnations. Mr. Eugene Tolle was
best man and the couple’s only at-
tendants.
Mrs. Springer was graduated from
Breckenridge High School, and for
the past four years has been employed
by the Cen-Tex Supply Co. in Breck-
enridge. Mr. Springer was graduated
from Cordell High School, Cordell,
Oklahoma, and was employed by C. R.
Anthony & Co., Cordell, before enter-
ing the service in 1942. He served
three years with the 29th division in
the European Theater of Operations,
and received his discharge in January,
1946.
The young couple will make their
home in Breckenridge, where Mr.
Springer is assistant manager of the
C. R. Anthony store there.
Mrs. Springer will be remembered
in Clifton by her frequent visits here
visiting friends and relatives, namely,
Miss Ollie Carlson, Mr. and Mrs. Ole
Hovend, Mrs. Sam G. Carlson, and
others.
Miss Mary Lou Jobson of George-
town is spending the holidays with
her parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Job-
son.
Mr. and Mrs. Bill Lewis of Waco,
and Mr. and Mrs. Leon Morris, of
Groesbeek are visiting Mrs. J. L.
Brown and Mrs. Bob Gill and family.
M. L. Stockard of Oklahoma City
Saturday for a few days

M. L. Stockard, and other relatives.
The Meridian Grammar School pre-
sented a Christmas Pageant at the
school auditorium last Wednesday
under the direction of Mrs. Clara
Richards, principal of the Grammar
School. A large crowd attended.
Mr. and Mrs. George Williams of
Hugo, Okla., Mrs. Mildred Baron and
daughters, Sue and Janice of Lamesa
are here to spend the holidays with
Mrs. Cecil Horton and Joe Sheppard.
Mrs. Annie Swaim came in from
Edens Sunday to be a guest of Mr.
and Mrs. Lester Smith, of Meridian
and her mother, Mrs. Eva McCoy,
of Clifton. Mr and Mrs. Smith and
Sherry Lynn met Mrs. Swaim in
Stephensville.

Beaumont is spending the week with

Bob Curtis is at home for the holi-
days.
Mrs. Joe Fuqua and daughter,,
Joan, have gone to Corpus Christi to
visit Mrs. Fuqua’s parents. Mr. Fuqua
will join them for Christmas.
The home decorations in Meridian
are unusually attractive this season.
Mrs. Hal Gill, who each year has a
unique arrangement at her home, has
added this year, Christmas Carols,
which are played each night.
Dr. and Mrs. J. T. Archer were
visitors in Waco Thursday.
Through Christmas letters and
cards, friends of Rev. and Mrs. Jack
O. Whitaker are glad to learn that
they are enjoying their pastorate in
California. Rev. Whitaker is a former
pastor of the Meridian Methodist
Church. They plan to visit Texas in
the near future and write that they
will see Meridian friends on this trip.
Mesdames Sherrill Benson and Guy
Briley were hostesses to the Study
Club Annual Christmas Party on
Wednesday, Dec. 18, at the home of
Mrs. Benson. The house was beauti-
fully decorated in the Christmas
spirit with tree and a mantel arrange-
ment. Mrs. Garvin Germany gave a
Christmas story in her most charm-
ing manner and following the story,
Mrs. Loree Moore gave the origin of
the Christmas poem, “’Twas the
Night Before Christmas.” During the
social hour Mrs. T. C. Primm pre-
sided at the tea table. Mrs. Jack
Cureton was a guest.
