Leaverton Will Not
Run For Legislature
H. A. Leaverton, of Evant, who
currently is completing his second
term as State Representative of
District 62 in Texas, has decided
not to make another race for that
office. It is understood that Mr.
Leaverton will seek the office of
Hamilton County Judge.
In a letter to the Record telling
of his decision not to make the
race for State Representative, Mr.
Leaverton said, “I have enjoyed
my services as your Representative
and trust that my efforts have
been of some benefit to my Dis-
trict. I assure you I have done my
best. I am extremely grateful for
the support I have received
throughout the District and the co-
operation that has been given me
in the performance of my duties.
11 shall be ever grateful of the
honor you have bestowed upon me,
I and I will continue to serve you to
, the best of my ability through my
j term of office. 1 trust that 1 may,
in the future, have an opportunity
! to show my gratitude.”

visited in the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Walter Gaskamp at McGregor
last Sunday.
Mrs. Edward Tipton returned
Friday from Pasadena after attend,
ing the funeral of a niece, Mrs.
Kermit Harris. Mrs. Tipton was in
Giddings for the funeral of her
sister-in-law, Mrs. John Knox, when
notified about the death of Mrs.
Harris.
Womack Lodge Officers
To Be Installed Jan. 28
Henry Riemer of San Antonio,
first grand vice-president of the
53,000-member Hermann Sons fra-
ternal order, will install the offi-
cers of eight north central Texas
Hermann Sons lodges and two Her-
mann Sons youth chapters at. 2:30
p.m. Sunday, January 28, in the
Syrian Club, four miles west of
Waco on U. S. Highway 84.
Mr. Riemer will be assisted by
Karl Amelung, San Antonio, grand
lodge chief clerk, and Walter Prea-
cher, Clifton, grand lodge district
supervisor.
Lodges having their officers in-
stalled will be as follows:
Womack Lodge No. 135, a men’s
lodge, and Cederheim Lodge No.
59, a women’s lodge, both of Clif-
ton; and the following mixed lodges
having both men and women mem-
bers: Unity Lodge No. 4, Waco;
Robinson Lodge No. 31, Robinson;
McGregof Lodge No. 132, Mc-
Gregor; Riesal Lodge No. 189,
Riesel; Shive Lodge No. 253, Ham-
ilton; and Priddy Lodge No. 279,
Priddy.
Bosque Hermann Sons Youth
Chapter, Clifton, and McGregor
Hermann Sons Youth Chapter, Mc-
Gregor, will have their officers in-
stalled.
Home offices of the Hermann
Sons are in San Antonio. The order
operates a free summer camp for
its junior members and a home for
its aged, both at Comfort. Some
6,000 youngsters have attended the
camp since it was opened in 1954.
The Home for the Aged provides
complete subsistence to more than
50 resident-members at all times.
ENGAGEMENT ANNOUNCED—Mr. and Mrs. Lester Clements, of 18
Dolores Avenue in Watsonville, California, have announced the engage-
ment of their daughter, Beverly Ann, shown above, to Mr. Clyde Wayne
Gloff, a son of Mr. and Mrs. W. 0. Gloff, of Route 1, Clifton.
A graduate of Watsonville High School, the bride-to-be presently is
a senior student at Abilene Christian College in Abilene.
Mr. Gloff is a graduate of Clifton High School and a 1961 graduate
of Abilene Christian College.
The young couple plans to be married in September.
Mrs. Hans Kalscheuer went to
Galveston by train Monday of last
week for a visit with her son-in-
law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs.
Lee Morgans. Last Friday M[r. Kal-
scheuer made the trip to Galveston
by plane to join his family. He and
his wife returned home by train
last Sunday. While in Galveston
the Kalscheuers also enjoyed visit-
ing with Mr. and Mrs. George Bock,
Mr, Bock having been born and
reared near Clifton.
4-H Council Plans
Activities For 1962
A planning session of the Bos
que County 4-H Council was held
January 13 at the Courthouse in
Meridian. Chairman Charlotte Miles
called the meeting to order; Der-
ril Wenzel led the group in the
motto and pledge, with the secre-
tary, Alice Radde, calling the roll
and reading the minutes of the
previous meeting.
The treasurer reported funds
amounting to $64.73, plus $16.00
for subscriptions, on hand.
New business included the elec-
tion of a budget Committee com-
posed of Derril Wenzel, Linda
Avery, Betty Latham, Mrs. Hubert
Viertel, and the two county agents.
It was moved that the 4-H Clubs
have the 1962 county camp at Red.
dy’s Retreat on Lake Whitney; the
agents were appointed to see about
the camp dates. Charlotte Miles
was re-elected to represent the
council at the Girls’ District Camp;
Tom Greenwade was elected vice-
chairman of the council.
R was moved that the camp have
some type of lamp craft at its work
shop. The camp committee will con
sist of the president of each 4-H
club.
The 1962 achievement banquet
will be held November 17, 1962;
Miss Lucy May Burrus and Floyd
M. Key are to arrange for a speak-
er for the occasion.
The Meridian Community 4-H
Club invited the Bosque County 4-H
Clubs to a party during National
4-H Club Week, March 3 to 10. The
next meeting of the 4-H Council
will be held in-March.

Local Resident's Mother Dios
Mrs. Minnie Holloway, mother of
L. C. Holloway of Clifton, died Sat-
urday, January 20, at a rest home
in Arlington. Funeral services were
held Sunday, January 21, at Mexia.
Mrs. Holloway was nearing her
92nd birthday when death occurred
and had enjoyed good health until
the past two years. She is survived
by three sons and three daughters.

ceived last week from Wilfred
Stoerner, of Route 1, Lockney, a
former resident of Bosque County,
which will be of interest to his
relatives and friends here:
“January 16, 1962
"The Clifton Record
Clifton, Texas
“Dear Sir:
“Enclosed find a check for our
Record subscription. We enjoy the
paper, especially the news items
about our friends and relatives
there.
“My wife, Mrs. Wilfred (Evalee)
Stoerner, has been in the hospital
since November 17 and in the
Methodist Hospital at Lubbock
since November 20. She has a ma-
lignant brain tumor. Her condition
remains critical; she is partially
paralyzed and hasn’t been able to
talk for over 4 weeks,' But some
days she seems some improved.
“We have two children, Cynthia
Ann, 6, and Martin Louis, 4%, who
are staying with their grandpar-
ents, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Brandes,
of Lockney, Mrs. Stoerner’s par-
ents.
“Mrs. Stoerner is a niece of Ern-
est Luedtke of Clifton.
“I (Wilfred Stoerner) am a son
of the late Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph
Stoerner and lived in Bosque Coun-
ty until 1930, at which time I
moved with my parents to the high
plains near Hereford, Texas. I have
one brother, Hubert, who lives at
Plainview, Texas.

Grace Memoiral Baptist
Church Calls Now Pastor
Jerry Watson, student at Baylor
University who has preached the
past two Sundays at the Grace
Memorial Baptist Church here, has
been called as the pastor of the
church.
As soon as the weather will per-
mit, Mr. and Mrs. Watson will
move to Clifton. The church has
rented the residence at 1502 West
11th Street for their new pastor
and his wife.
