Most of the strife hi today’s world Is the result of
discontent because of what we don’t have, and
disenchantment with what we do have. This Is not a new
thing to man.
1900 years ago there lived a man who had everything,
but was not content. Saul of Tarsus cause boa a wealthy
family. He hod friends, education, prestige and position.
He was ■ success. Bat Saul, like the rest of ns, was made
In God’s Image and could not find permanent satisfaction
In any of these things. He owned much; he had nothing.
His bouse In Jerusalem was full of beautiful things, but It
was empty. After his conversion he became a preacher, a
missionary, and as such he owned nothing. But be had
everything. Instead of his former prestige he was now
thrown out of nearly every city be preached In. There were
few places where he was welcome. He was stoned,
(mprisooed, beaten and often went hungry.
In spite of all this Saul wrote to one of his churches: “Not
that I speak In respect of want, for I have leaned la
whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content. I know
both how to be abashed and how to abound, how |o be full
and to suffer need.” i
