1964 Smorgasbord Makes 16th Successful Year For Event

Smorgasbord presented by the Ladies Aid of Our Savior's Lutheran Church at Norse
were the following members of that organization who assisted with the serving of the
delicious meal: Mesdames Adolph Schulze, Jay Wilson, Albert A. Petrich, Milton L. Sol-
berg Jr , Mervin Bakke, and C. Pernell Aars.
Acting as chairman of this year’s Smorgasbord, which was held Wednesday and
Thursday. November 11 and 12, was Mrs. Bakke. Publicity committee members were
Mrs. Wilson and Mrs Solberg.
The ladies’ colorful costumes were copied from those worn in the Hardanger peasant
section of Norway.

Seven hundred and twenty per
sona, plus an additional 100 from
the Norse community, were ser-
ved when the ladies Aid of Our
Savior’s Lutheran Church at Norse
sponsored its 16th annual Smnr
gasbord in the church Parish Hall
on Wednesday and Thursday. No-
vember 11 and 12
According to the ladies' Aid, not
all orders for tickets could be fill-
ed. which has been the case for a
number of years Approximately
200 ticket orders had to be re-
turned.
Mrs Mervin Bakke served as
chairman for the 1964 Smorgas-
bord. with Mrs Jay Wilson and
Mrs Milton L Solberg Jr acting
as members of the publicity com-
mittee. They were assisted by the
entire congregation of Our Savior’s
Lutheran Church, as that affair
calls for weeks of hard work by
everyone in that community.

ture, those persons directly in-
volved with serving the meal a-
gain were gowned in colorful Nor-
wegian dress which was copied
from that worn in the Hardanger
peasant section of Norway
Folks have been coming from
all sections of Texas and from se
veral other states for the past se-
veral years to attend the Smor
gasbord at the historic Lutheran

year were Mr. and Mrs. H. C. (Tur
i key) Dahl, of Beverly Hills, Cali-
fornia O. J Hoel and two friends
aff from Oruver, came to Waco by
plane last week and on to Norse
to enjoy the Smorgasbord. Mr. Hoel
is a son of Ole J Hoel Sr and a
brother of Calvert H. Hoel and
Mrs. Loyd Swenson. Visitors also
were present from Nottunden.

ATTEND TEA-SHOWER
Mrs Melvin Anz and her daugh-
ter, Patricia Chambers and Mrs,
John K Rierson Jr and daughter,
Debbie, went to Brownwood on Sat-
urday, November 14. to attend a
tea-shower honoring Mrs. Anz’s
niece, Miss Margaret Shelton. Miss
Shelton, a niece of Reverend and
Mrs. W. J. Shelton, of that city,
will be married on December 19.
Mrs. T. Amundson
Dies In Smithfield
Saturday, Nov. 14
Relatives and friends here re-
gretted to learn of the death of
Mrs. Tarvel Amundson, of Smith-
field, on Saturday night, November
14, in that city. She had been in
ill health for approximately a
year and seriously ill for the past
three months.
Mrs. Amundson, the former Miss
Bertha Schow, made her home in
Clifton for a number of years. She
was a sister in-law of A. G. Amund-
son, Jake Amundson, and B. O.
Amundson, of Clifton, and of Mrs.
Jess Arnold, of Meridian.
Surviving Mrs. Amundson are
her husband, Tarvel Amundson, of
Smithfield; one son, Albert of
Haltom City; one daughter, Mrs.
Dorothy Green, of Smithfield; and
three grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at
2:00 o’clock on Monday afternoon.
November 16, at the Smithfield
Methodist Church, with interment
following in the Smithfield Ceme-
tery.
Attending the services from this
vicinity were A. G. Amundson, B.
O. Amundson, Jodie Amundson,
and Herman H. Landua Sr., of Clif-
ton, and Mrs. Jess Arnold, of Mer-
idian.

Kenneth Pilant and Glenn Kleine.
who have been stationed at Fort
Polk, Louisiana, in the United
States Army in connection with
their National Guard service, re-
turned home last Friday night af
ter being discharged. They have
been at Fort Polk since May. Ken-
neth is a son of Mr. and Mrs
Jewell Pilant, and Glenn is a son
of Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Kleine.
Mrs. Cecil P. Coston underwent
surgery in the local hospital Thur
sday of last week. Mrs. Coston's
many friends hope she soon will
be completely recovered from the
operation.
Mr. Kalscheuer Attends
Lutheran Brotherhood
Fall Soles Conference

Hans A. Kalscheuer, of this city
district representative of the Lu-
theran Brotherhood, attended a
fall sales conference sponsored by
the Minneapolis-based fraternal so-
ciety on Monday, November 16, at
the Ramada Inn in Dallas.
The West Central Texas area dis-
trict, which Mr. Kalscheuer repre-
sents, was recognized as consistent-
ly leading in sales during the past
year among the 17 Texas and Ok-
lahoma district within its agency.
Principal speakers for the con-
ference were M. E. Anderson, Lu-
theran Brotherhood vice-president
and director of health insurance,
and Walter Jessen, field superin-
tendent for the society, both of
Minneapolis, Minnesota.
To Have Thanksgiving Supper
Members of the Grace Memorial
Baptist Church in Clifton will have
a Thanksgiving supper beginning
at 7:00 o’clock on Thursday night
of this week. All church families
are urged to attend and enjoy the
excellent food and fellowship.
