Home in Valley Mills and were
conducted bWJReverend A. G.
Standlee, pastor of the Methodist
Church in that city.
Mrs. Hitching, widow of the late
D. C. Hitching Sr., who preceded
bis wife in death in 1941, died at
4:00 o’clock on Friday atternoon,
December 5, in the Cleburne Mem-
orial Hospital. She had been hos-
pitalized there following a recent
fall which resulted in a broken
hip.
Pallbearers during the services
last Sunday afternoon were Mrs.
Kitching’s grandsons—Jack Hitch-
ing, Kyle Hitching, Joe Hitching,
John David Swenson, Clay Jeanes,
Paige Blankenship, Craig Blanken-
ship, and Robert Thelman.
Mrs. Hitching was laid to rest
in the Valley Mills' Cemetery be-
side her devoted husband.
Obituary Given
Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Johnson Hit-
ching was a daughter of the late
William Andrew Johnson and Mrs.
Nancy Mayfield Johnson, pioneer
residents of Coryell County.
At the age of 18 years she was
married to Dave Connell Hitching.
Twelve children were born to their
marriage.
Mr. and Mrs. Hitching and their
family lived for many years on
their ranch and farm which was lo-
cated between Mosheim and Gates-
ville. Mr. Hitching organized and
built the school at White Hall,
near their ranch, so that his child-
ren would have a nearby school to
attend.
In 1906 the Kitchings moved to
Valley Mills, where they made
their home for a number of years.
Following her husband’s death
in 1941 Mrs. Hitching visited with
her children in their homes. She
was with her son, Paul Hitching,
in Cleburne when she fell and
broke her hip.
Left to survive Mrs. Hitching are
nine children—five sons, Paul Hit-
ching, of Cleburne, Dave C. Hitch-
ing Jr., of Jonesboro, Cronje Hitch
ing. of Fort Worth, and Stanley
Hitching and Tom Hitching, of
Houston: four daughters, Mrs. J.
V. MacAleese (Clara), of Brown
wood, Mrs. S. A. Burks (Ruby), of
San Antonio, and Mrs. Carroll
Swenson (Bonnie) and Mrs. Cleo
Jeanes (Polly), of Houston; 15
grandchildren; and 21 great-grand-
children.
Preceding Mrs. Hitching in
death, in addition to heV parents
and husband, were two sons, one
who died in infancy and another,
John T. Hitching, whose death oc-
curred in 1936, and one daughter,
Mrs. W. C. Downing, who died in
1929.
As a tribute to Mrs. Hitching it
can well be said that she was loved
by everyone who knew her. She
was a good Christian woman and
very devoted wife and mother.
Members of her family have the
most heartfelt sympathy in their
loss.
