Rep. Don Adams
To Serve On Five

MENTS: The Speaker of the will
Hotwe assigned me to the fol- •***»'
lowing committees: (1) Agri- ^,*p<

surance, (4) Common Carriers, Ausl

I was very pleased with those Don
committee assignments because sent:

which will be important to our phor
district. In the coming weeks I 512*

basic idea is good; however, this
type of- legislation will prob-
ably have no effect on the
types of movies that we see un-
til it is done on a National lev-
el in the United States Con-
gress.
CRIME PREVENTION:
There will be many new pro-
posals introduced in this Ses-
sion of the Legislature to con-
trol crime. The most important
will deal with the commission
of crimes with a firearm, and
when this bill is available, I
will give you a full report on
during the first three weeks of
.his Session. Under the head-
ing of legislation, I will try to
tell you of some of the most
important bills which affect
/ou and our district.
PARK FEES: As you know,
the Parks and Wildlife Com-
nission has passed a rul6 re-
tiring the payment of $1.00
is an entrance fee to all State
larks. Generally, the money
received by way of these fees
is to be used to pay for the
purchase and construction of
new State park facilities. I
rave received many com-
plaints about the fee from peo-
ple who use the Martin Dies
State Parks on Dam B in Tyler
tnd Jasper Counties. There has
ieen a bill introduced which
would do away with this fee
m any park acquired or built
ifter 1967. This would mean
that the public could enter all
rf the existing State parks in
our district without paying the
entrance fee, and I feel that
ernment of* any pending legis-
lation before the House of Rep
resentatives or Senate. When J
cast my vote for or against leg-
islation, it will be based or
what I feel to, be the will oi
the people I represent; there-
fore, I hope you will communi-
cate with me often.
LEGISLATION: There have
been some two hundred pro-

In his strongly worded an-
nouncement, Sen. Wilson ac-
cused the public utilities in-
dustries of excessive lobbying
and of inattentiveness to the
public good. He showed the

rates and standards of service.
The Board would be appointed
by the governor subject to
confirmation by the Senate.
Wilson stated that his reason
for the relatively large size of
the Board is to permit diver-
gent views which will be aired
and receive more public expo-
sure.
In announcing the bill’s in-
troduction Wilson said, “The
average Texas householder ic
being overcharged more on
telephone and electric bills than
any other item in the 'family
budget.”
"In Texas, the telephone
rates are the highest and the
in Texas. Wc are the only state
in the United States that does
not regulate their intra - state
telephone rates or service.”
