Each of us are familiar with the
phrase: "You can lead a horse to
water, but you can’t make him
drink" We can however, sprinkle
some salt in his hay and make him
want to drink.
That’s what you call “motiva-
tion."
Webster defines motivate as: “to
provide a motive,” “a spring, an im-
pulse, an incentive.”
Too many times we have to have
someone to motivate us to do some-
thing we should do on our own.
The recent article in the Dublin
Progress, requesting additional
volunteer help w ith th St. Patrick’s
Celebration, was written with this
pourpose in mind; to motivate, to
spring into action, to provide an in-
centive.
Why would or should the people
of Dublin need an incentive to get
involved with their town’s annual

Hightower said.
The association was formed last
year to provide an educational and
enjoyable experience in basketball
for Dublin public school students in
the third, fourth, fifth and sixth
grades.
>‘We are in it for the kids’
benefit,” Hightower said. “We want
to teach sportsmanship and build
self-esteem.”
Association members met
Thursday to plan the season and
elect officers.
Newly elected officers include
Hightower, Janie Barnes, vice-
president; Kay Anderson,
sccrctary/trcsaurcr, Steve
Hightower, parliamentarian; and
Lois Stewart, head coach.
