day, Oct. 6, in West Jefferson Medical
Center in Marrero, La., following a
brief illness.
He was horn Aug 26, I929. in
Ciretna, La., the son of Herman Sr
and Margame Wood Myers. He mar-
ried Norma Jean Short on Oct 7.
1950, in Los Angeles. Calif. She sur-
vives.
Mr Myers had been a resident of
Sulphur Springs for the past four
years. He was a member of First Bap-
tist Church. Sulphur Springs, the Sil-
vertone Choir and the Ike Balkcom
Sunday School Class. He served w ith
the Navy in World War II and was
stationed on the USS Prairie as an
electrician. He was a member of Vet-
erans of Foreign W'ars Post 3 I 21 in
Gretna. La He was a retired shipping
and receiving superintendent for
American Cyanamid Company.

w as a member of Della Kappa Gam-
ma. the Business and Professional
Women's Club and was active in oth
er civic affairs.
She was awarded the Texas Distin-
guished Service Award by the Exten-
sion Service and was honored as
Hopkins County Senior Citizen of the
Year. She was a member of First Bap-
tist Church. Sulphur Springs.
Survivors include one sister. Opal
Dupree of Sulphur Springs; four
nephews; and five nieces.
She was preceded in death by four
brothers, Paul, Ervin, Thomas and
A J Hale; one half brother. Lillian
Hale; one sister. Hixie Lndsley, and
one half-sister. Clara Porterfield

A native of Fort Worth, she was a
Bryan resident from 1965 until 1980.
during which time she was active as a

giaduating from Texas A&M Univer-
sity with a bachelor's degree in psy-
chology and a master's of education
degree in educational psychology.
She assisted teaching at both Texas
A&M psychology department and
Wildflower Kindergarten. She was a
den-mother for Cub Seoul Pack 409
During the 1970s. she was a realtor
with Brazos I and Realty, obtaining her
GRI designation and real estate bro-
ker's license. After moving to Hous-
ton in 1980, she was associated with
the Shaner Group as a realtor and
with the Houston Arboretum as a
Docent. She was a member of the
AAUW. YMCA. Houston Museum of
Natural History. Art League. Water
Color Society of Houston and the
Jung Center She and her husband
returned to Bryan to retire earlier this
year
Survivors include her husband.
William E. Kuykendall Jr., formerly

Mr. Hyde had been a resident of
Grand Prairie for the past 47 years,

A. Hodges on Nov. 25, 1944, in Cor-
pus C'hristi. He survives.
Mrs. Hodges was a 1939 graduate
of Parts High School. She held a
bachelor's degree in psychology and
sociology from East Texas State Uni-
versity, a bachelor’s degree in nursing
from the University of Texas at Tyler
and a master’s degree in education
from Last Texas State University. She
was a member of First Baptist Church
and a past member and president of
the Hopkins and Franklin County
Medical Auxiliary

marriage at 2 p.m. Saturday. May 24.
The formal double ring ceremony
was officiated bv Dr David Hardage
in the Spence Chapel of First Baptist
Church, Sulphur Springs
T he bride is the daughter of l ..incite
Dillard and Bryan and Linda Mathes
of Sulphur Springs. She is the grand-
daughter ol Anita Tvnes and the late
R F Tynes; Harvey Mathes and the
late Irmhilda Mathes. all of Sulphur
Springs. She is the great granddaugh-
ter of Oleta Groves ot Greenville and
the late Lee Groves.
The groom is the son ol Rickey and
Peggy WestbriKik ot Sulphur Springs.
He is the grandson of Rose West-
brook and the late Charles Westbrook
of Paris; Betty Ingram of Welch,
Okla., and the late Thomas Kay
Ingram.
Opening the ceremony, Diane
Lummus. accompanied by Eydie
Ginn sang. “When 1 Fall In Love." At
this time, the grandparents and par-
ents of both the bride and groom were
escorted to their seats.
