50th anniversary
Jerrel and Bobbie Wilhite celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on
June 1. They were married on May 31,1946. Their children, grandchil-
dren, brothers and sisters honored them with lunch and cake at Ryan’s
Steakhouse in Greenville.
Johnston, Young to wed
Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Johnston of Sulphur Springs announce the engage-
ment and approaching marriage of their daughter, Lisa Brynn, to Deuce
Young, son of Mary Bishop Young of Tyler and William “Bubba” Young
of Emory. The couple will be married at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, July 13, in
First Baptist Church in Sulphur Springs.

Engagement announcement
Kurt and Judy Ruppman of Dallas announce the engagement and
approaching marriage of their daughter, Shelli Marie Ruppman, to Jef-
frey Glenn Kranz, son of Ed and Janice Kranz of Garland, formerly of
Sulphur Springs. The couple will wed at 7 p.m. Saturday, June 22, in
Custer Road United Methodist Church of Plano.
FAMILYReunions
Megan and Katie Watson received
the high point trophies for their
respective classes from Laurine Gar-
rison at the second speech recital and
awards assembly held on Sunday
afternoon. May 26, at First United
Methodist Church.
Katie competed for the top honor
with Kendall Smith and Jeffrey
Kramer who were also named high-
point achievers by Garrison because
of their superior record for the entire
school term. Other members of the
beginner’s class who received tro-
phies were Chandler Harris and
Collin Alexander.
Monica Lancaster, Kristen Cross
and Val Walker from Megan’s class
were also honored for their superior
work during the entire term. Other
students receiving trophies were Eliz-
abeth LeSage, Emily Gilbert, Hutton
Harris, Brandon Vo, Dallas Campbell,
Grant Alexander, Jenny Glaess and
Michelle Ream.
The program was completed by
members of the debate class who
received trophies after demonstrating
other speech activities. Brad Cutrell
read “A Message to Garcia,” Billy
Warren read “Hiawatha’s Wooing,”
Laura Glaess recited “The Lady of
Shalqtt” and David and Galen Gilbert
delighted the audience with their per-
formance of “Who’s on First?”
Five students who were unable to
come for either of the Sunday after-
noon recitals assisted Garrison with a
program at the Lions Club on Tues-
day and thereby qualified for their
awards. Jedda Bragg received the
high-point trophy for the middle
school class. Other performers were
Tess Bragg, Livingston Martin,
Jonathan Bennett and Drew Morgan.

High School was honored with a grad-
uation party at her house on May 19.
Those attending were Landon and
Lindsay Womack, Angie Garmon,
MaRanda and MaDora Callander.

Kearney. Betty Hill, Carrie Presley,
Trade Neal, Leah Gregory, Jonathan
Wilhite and Esther Vandermeulen.
Special guests were Carolyn Wom-
vck, Dana Winstead, Jayson Campbell,
Mike and Tina Gentles, Randy and
Mae Cole, Justin and Jacob Riley, Bil-
ly Joe and Eloise Goldsmith and Mic-
ah Swanson.
The guests were served hamburgers,
chips and drinks. Cake was served for
dessert. The honoree received gifts
from her guests. She plans to attend
Northeast Texas Community College
in the fall and pursue a degree in
nursing

Melissa Bryant and Alexis Willing-

seniors, were honored with a ham-
burger cookout Tuesday, May 14.

A graduation party was given in
honor of Nicole Jones, a Sulphur
Springs graduating senior, by her
grandparents Marvin and Louise Jones
on May 18, at their home.
Guests were served hot dogs will all
the trimmings, followed by ice cream
sundaes. After eating, Nicole opened
gifts from her friends.

Monica and Melissa Hooks, Mindy
Glenn, Lindsey Geis, Krystal Fetting,

Party" was held in honor of Sulphur
Springs High School senior Rachel
Sanders. The party was given by Wen-
di Stapleton. Anita Stapleton arid Deb-
bie Horton.

ena, Tommy and Barbara Sanders and

The guests were served a variety of
Mexican dishes and participated in
games such as a pinata bust. A Ta
Molly’s gift certificate and lottery
scratch-off tickets were given to the
winners. Rachel was presented with
gifts from her parents and from the
hostesses.

Glover and Nichols
Big’Smith’s Bar-B-Q was the set-
ting on May 8 of a graduation party
honoring Jeremy Blount, Craig
Clifton, Jarrod Friddle, Cory Glover
and Kyle Nichols. Guests were treated
to all-you-can-eat barbecued beef ribs,
cole slaw, beans, potato salad and oth-
er trimmings. Ryan Lane, who ate the
most ribs, was given a gift certificate
to another dinner at the restaurant.

Ryan Lane, Chad Ross, Daniel Hogan,
Brandon Owens, Michael Boles, Todd

Julie Glover was honored with a
graduation party at the home of her
cousin, Becky Beck, in Garland on
Saturday, May 18. Guests enjoyed
swimming, a hamburger supper and
were treated to the movie “Twister.”
Also hosting the party were cousins
of the honoree, Patsy and Jerrel Beck
of Sulphur Springs, and her great-aunt
Fannie Lou Beckham, also of Sulphur
Springs.
Attending were Adam Wilburn.

Robert Connally. Special guests were
Michael Memman of Fort Hood and
her parents. Bill and Jane Glover and
sister, Jennifer.

Spencer Calavan. 19% graduate of
Sulphur Springs High School, was
honored with a graduation party Fri-
day, April 26, hosted by Bill and Jane
Glover and Jennifer Glover held at the
Glover home
Guests enjoyed a hot dog supper
with all the trimmings, participated in
a scavenger hunt and spent the
evening visiting and watching movies.
Those attending were Jacky Dixon,
Kris Goodman, Jeremy Jordan, Melis-
sa Lamb, Greg Barrett, Shevella Lind-
ley, Danny Caldwell, Aaron Huddel-
ston, Adam Huddelston and John
Campbell.
Special guests were Spencer’s par-
ents, Steve and Cindy Calavan, his
brother, David, and grandmother,
Cody Mauk of Gilmer.
Jason Walton
A graduation party honoring Jason
Walton, a 1996 Sulphur Springs High
School graduate, was held May 18, at
the home of the Rev. Chalmer and Sal-
ly Dennis. The event was hosted by
the Bibleway Lighthouse Church
youth group.
The table was decorated with blue
and yellow streamers and balloons and
gifts. Guests were served hot dogs,
chips and all the trimmings, including
a blue and yellow graduation cake.
The guest of honor was then presented
with graduation gifts and the church
presented Jason with a Bible to be
used in college. The party was con-
cluded with a game of volleyball and
water balloons.
Special guests included Rex and
Linda Morgan, parents of the honoree.
Other guests were Jamie, Trish, Cas-
sidy and Chelsey Foster, Jeff and
Chrissy Ottwell, Billy Dennis. Marvin
and L A Morris, Sarah Leech,
Richard and Sue Jackson, Dewayne,
Mary. Christy and Dustin Dorse,
Earnest, Katrina and Janeva Ponder
and Tammy Hughes.
Matthew Howell
Matthew Howell was honored with
a graduation party on May 18, in the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Donnie John-
son.
Guests enjoyed hamburgers, baked
beans, chips and dip, cookies and
brownies. Matthew was presented
with a photo album as a present. Out-
side games were enjoyed by all.
Guests were Andrew Howell, Karla
Johnson, Andrea Johnson, Kregg
Slakey, Todd Jefferson, Nichol Jeffer-
son. Kyle Nichols, Doniel Hogan, Jim
Teetes, Carrie Lennon, Mr. and Mrs.

Hudson family
The 14th annual Hudson family
reunion was held Saturday and Sun-
day May 25 and 26, at the home of
Jimmy and Kathryn Hudson in Sul-
phur Springs.
The weather was beautiful and
everyone enjoyed the deck and tree-
shaded yard. The adults played 42
and pitched horseshoes and the chil-
dren played on the swing sets.
There was a barbecue dinner Satur-
day evening and covered dish lunch
at noon Sunday that was enjoyed by
all.
Those attending were Bruce, Linda
and Julie Sibley of Garland; Murl
Doolittle, Roy Thomas, Darrel and
Mariana DeLeon from San Antonio;
Gary and Jackie Hudson from Royse
city; Emily Hudson from Madis-
onville; Shanna, Katie, Aaron and
Shayla Kuhl from Caddo Mills;
Juanita Hudson from Yantis; and
from Sulphur Springs, Joe, Mary,
Mike, Brandon, Chase, Scott, Kathy
and Crystal Hudson, John Coleman,
Cleve and Nell Hudson, Gail Passons,
Jandi DeWitt, Mary Nix, Holly
McDonald and Jimmy and Kathryn
Hudson.
Relatives unable to attend were
missed. The date for the 1997 family
reunion will be Memorial Day week-
end.
Lawrence family
Thirty-two descendents of the Bob
Lawrence family gathered at the Tira
Community Center for their annual
reunion on Memorial Day weekend.
John and Evelyn Stewart Langston
were the hosts. Brisket, baked beans,
potato salad, cole slaw, rolls and
dessert were served at the noon meal
on Sunday. Saturday night the menu
was hamburgers, hot dogs, chips and
desserts.
Those attending were Jay, Charlene
and Lori Lawrence, Bob and Colton
Lawrence of Fort Worth; from Wichi-
ta Falls were Eli and Patsy Lawrence,
Carolyn, Brandon and Brent Ander-
son, Mark, Julie and Sawyer from
Grapevine; Jimmy, Helen, Crissty and
Chandler Smith from Greenville;
from Denton was Danny Rawson,
Joyce and Johnny Johnson and Bran-
don Calhoun from Mesquite; John
and Evelyn Langston of Temple; and
Bascom and Marlene Hatred from
Sulphur Springs.
Also attending were Ruth and Gay
Chapman, Mary and Dwight Rawson
and Troy and Georgia Smith, all of
Tira.
Newsom family
On Saturday, May 18, the family of
Henry T. and Lillie Campbell New-
som met for their annual reunion.
Several could not attend this year
because of other commitments.
Mattie Newsom Martin, the only
living child, was not able to attend.
The two daughters-in-law, Linnie
Newsom and Inez Newsom, were
both present.
Grandchildren and great-grandchil-
dren present were Mildred and Janet
Weaver of Dallas; Cecil Newsom of
Garland; Eura Smith and Shelia
Heath of Richardson; Hazel Adair
and Polly Phillips of Hope, Ark., J.T.
and Lois Martin of Hurst; Randy Pen-
ney of Arlington; Robert and Linda
Walker, Megan and Matt Ward of
Richardson; T.D. Gafford of
Greenville. Attending from Sulphur
Springs were Myrtie Shipley, Celo
and Jennie Fergurson, Red and Ver-
nice Penney, Jack and Dorothy New-
som, Tony and Denise Williams. Spe-
cial guest was Shirley Chandure of
Arlington.
After visiting and reminiscing and
enjoying a delicious lunch, it was
decided the next reunion would be on
Saturday, May 17, 1997.
Peek, Evans to wed
Mrs. Marilyn Kay Peek of Brown wood announces the engagement and
approaching marriage of her daughter, Kaneesi Sue, to Jeremy Wayne
Evans, son of Karolyn and Jimmy Bennett of Brown wood. The bride-
elect is the daughter of the late Mr. Royce Eldon Peek, formerly of Bras-
bear, and the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. W.W. Currin of Brown-
wood. Her fiance is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Rusty Evans of Hamil-
ton. The wedding is planned for 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 31, at First Baptist
Church in Brown wood. Friends »nd family are invited to attend.
