residence at 1:15 a.m. Monday.
The widely known retired
military man and cattleman
was a survivor of the infamous
Bataan Death March after his
military unit was captured in
the Philippine Islands in the
early days of World War II.
He was born in Missouri Nov.
14,1910, but the family moved to
Hopkins County early in his life.
He was a member of the Wesley
United Methodist Church and
the Masonic Lodge.
He married the former Mary
Elizabeth Young in 1938. She
survives. Other survivors in-
clude a daughter, May Beth
Kerr of Emory; one grand-
daughter; three sisters, Mrs.
Effie Wesson and Mrs. Ethel
Froneberger, both of Sulphur
Springs, and Mrs. Grace
Atherton of Arlington; and two
brothers, Homer Adams of
Plano and Jake Adams of
Richardson.
Funeral services were con-
ducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday at
Tapp Funeral Home, with
burial following in City
Cemetery with Gerald Prim,
Joe Dan Avinger, Doy Plocher,
Bobby Kearney, Henry Potts
and Warren Chancellor serving
as pallbearers.
Full military graveside
services were conducted.

Mayron L. Jones, 67, 415
Sheffield St., died Thursday in
the Park Haven Nursing Home
in Greenville.
Funeral services were held at
2 p.m. Saturday in the Pleasant
Hill Baptist Church, where he
held membership, with burial
following in the Pleasant Hill
Cemetery.
He was bom April 13, 1913,
son of Leonard and Emma
Jones in Hopkins County.
Survivors include a sister,
Mrs. Irene Roland, and a niece,
Bobbie Askew, both of Sulphur
Springs; six other nieces, two
nephews and three step-
children.
White Funeral is in charge of
arrangements.
Hattie Carpenter
Mrs. Hattie N. Carpenter, 91,
of 411 Airport Road died at 10:15
a.m. Wednesday at Memorial
Hospital.
Mrs. Carpenter was bora
Feb. 1,1889 in Lamar County to
M.G. and Sally Crumbly
Boucher.
She married John Edward
Carpenter on Sept 25, 1910 at
Gaffords Chapel. He preceded
her in death on May 9,1952.
Mrs. Carpenter was a
member of the Mount Zion
Cumberland Presbyterian
Church.
Services were conducted at 2
p.m. Friday in the Tapp
Funeral Chapel with the Rev.
Paul Capeheart and the Rev.
L.B. Morgan officiating. Burial
was in the Mount Zion
Cemetery.
Survivors include three
daughters, Mrs. Vera Blount of
Sulphur Springs, Mrs. Arva

Wednesday in a Greenville
nursing home.
He was born Sept. 2, 1896 in
Collin County to Henry and
Mattie Smith Boyer.
Mr. Boyer married Ottis
Phillips in Blossom in 1921.
He was a former resident of
Blossom and had lived in
Pickton for the past four years.
He was a veteran of World War
I and a member of the East Post
Oak Baptist Church. Mr. Boyer
was a retired rancher and
farmer.
Services were conducted at 11
a.m. Saturday at the East Post
Oak Baptist Church with the
Rev. Tom Ingram officiating.
Burial was in the East Post Oak
Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife;
four daughters, Mrs. Murrell
Bryan of Blossom, Mrs. Gladys
Aubrey of Houston, Mrs. Dovie
Joyce Smith of Delores, Colo,

Mrs. Letha Ewing, 86, of
Route 3, died at 7:55 p.m.
Wednesday at Memorial
Hospital.
Mrs. Ewing Was bora May 28,
1894 in Mills County to Mr. and
Mrs. A.J. Blackwell.
She married Joe Ewing at
Georgetown on April 24,1916.
Mrs. Ewing was a member of
the Jefferson Street Church of
Christ.
Services were conducted at
2:30 p.m. Friday in the Murray-
Orwosky Chapel with J.B.
Myers officiating. Burial was in
the City Cemetery.
Survivors include her
husband; a brother, Robert
Blackwell of California, and a
sister, Mrs. Hallie Myers of
Grand Prairie.

S. (Buck) Carr were held at 2
p.m. Friday in Covina, Calif.
Mr. Carr died at his home in
Covina Sunday afternoon. He
was 56.
Bora Dec. 8, 1924 in the Nelta
community, he was the son of
Richard and Lula Carr.
He is survived by three
daughters, Patti Skeen of
Mount Vernon, Beth Clagg of
California, and Ruth Carr of
Alabama; three sons, James
Carr, a Marine stationed in
Scotland, Norman Carr of
Alabama, and Joe Carr of
California.

Earl Miller, 59, of Route 1,
Pickton, died early Saturday
morning at the Baylor Medical
Center in Dallas.
Bora Dec. 27,1920 in Hopkins
County, he was the son of Obie
and Rosie Lee Dunvan Miller.
He married the former
Maudien Braden Oct 29,1938 in
Hopkins County.
A rural mail carrier for the
Pickton Post Office and a
dairyman, he is survived by his
wife; a son, Donnie Miller of
Pickton; two daughters, Sue
Arnold of Como and Judy Giles
of Sulphur Springs; and two
grandchildren, Kristie Lynn
Miller and Obie Earl Miller.
He was a member of the
Caney Baptist Church and was
a veteran of World War n.
Funeral services were held at
2 p.m. Monday in the Murray-
Orwosky Funeral chapel with
the Rev. Dale Ruggles and the
Rev. Thomas Abies officiating.
Burial was in the Caney
Cemetery with Joe Bob Brown,
Ricky Allen, Ralph Brown, Otis

She was married to Quinton
Rasure May 18, 1946. He sur-
vives.

(Lana) Biggerstaff of Mount
Vernon, and Lisa Ann Rasure of

in the Yantis Cemetery.
Mrs. Lindley died at 6:10 a.m.
Monday in the Hopkins County
Nursing Home.
The daughter of Wesley and
Sally Dalrymple Bussey, Mrs.
Lindley was born May 12,1892
in Gadsden, Ala. She married
Robert D. Lindley in December,
1920, in Sulphur Springs. He
survives.
Mrs. Lindley, a homemaker
in the Yantis area for most of
her life, was a member of the
First Baptist Church of Yantis
and a former member of the
Order of the Eastern Star.
Other survivors include a
daughter, Mrs. Fleta Harris of
Brown wood; a sister, Miss
Lillian Bussey of Sulphur
Springs; seven grandchildren
and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a
daughter, Mary Vann, in 1977.

Mrs. Maggie McCorkle, 87, of
1004 N. Davis, with the Rev.
Gather Day officiating.
Burial was in the Brashear
Cemetery.
Mrs. McCorkle died at 4 a.m.
Tuesday at her residence.
The daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Shad Ishmael, Mrs. McCorkle
was bora Dec. 17, 1893 in the
Shirley Community.
Mrs. McCorkle, a member of
the First United Methodist
Church in Sulphur Springs,
married J.H. Highfield, who
preceded her in death in 1934.
She then married Claud Mc-
Corkle, who preceded her in
death in 1973. A son, Elwood
Highfield, also preceded her in
death.
She is survived by grandsons
Tony Highfield of Fort Worth
and David and Steve Highfield,
both of Sulphur Springs; and
one great-grandson, Wesley
Highfield.

Mr. Peacock married Winnie
Walker in Blossom on Oct. 7,
1933.
He was a member of the
Arlington Kiwanis Club,
Arlington Lions Club and the
First United Methodist Church
of Arlington. Mr. Peacock was a
retired school principal and was
a former Hopkins County
resident.
