Controls Dropped
On Installment
Buying in U. S.
Friday
)|tashingtun, May 7—The Fed-
eral Reserve Board has suspended
controls over installment buying.
The government has lifted con-
sumer credit controls under regu-
lation “W”. This regulation covers
consumer credit on such items as
uutos, household appliances and
furniture. It fixes down payments
and period in which payment must
be completed.
Today’s decision means there
w ill be no curbs on down payments
or length of time to pay for scores
of item*.
The federal reserve board de-
cided that supplies of these goods
are large enough now so that
controls are not heeded for the
time being to fight inflation.
The board has stressed lately
that inflation dangers have sub-
sided—at least for a while—-and
has taken several steps to relax
its anti-inflation controls.
