June nuptials announced
Mrs. Gene Hazen of Hutchinson, Ka. announces the engagement
and approaching marriage of her daughter, Janis Aria, to
Timothy A. Hunt of Plano. The prospective bridegroom is the
son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Ray Hunt of Sulphur Springs. Miss
Hazen is a graduate of Hutchinson High School and received her
B.A. from The University of Kansas and is presently employed
by the Texas Girl Scout Council in Dallas. Hunt is a graduate of
Sulphur Springs High School and received both his B.S. and M.S.
from East Texas State University. He is now employed as an Art
Instructor in the Plano School system. The couple will repeat
their vows in DeShong Chapel at Paris Junior College, 2400
Clarksville St., in Paris at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, June 14. A
reception will follow the ceremony. Friends and relatives of the
couple are invited to attend.
The home of Mrs. Bill Hager
and daughter Julie was the
setting for a rice bag party
honoring Miss Myra Pilcher,
bride-elect of David Watson.
The party was held Tuesday
evening, May 6.
A gift from the hostess
marked the honoree’s place at
the foursome tables where
traditional rice bags were made
with white tulle and seafoam
green ribbon. Rosebud flowers
contaning rice were made from
green organdy.

The City Cemetery Society
met Monday, May 5 in the
director’s room of the People’s
National Bank with Mrs. Ben
Wood presiding over the session
in the absence of Mrs.
Rayphield Brinker.
Mrs. B.F. Ashcroft reported
on receipts and disbursements
to the general fund for the past
month and gave a discussion of
the financial statement. She
expressed the appreciation of
the society for the special gift
from Hubert Hicks which will
be shared by the beautification,
chapel and streets and drives
committees.
In the absence of Mrs. LF.
Bridges Jr., chairman of the
chapel committee, Mrs. Ash-
croft reported on projects for
the chapel committee and read
the names of donors to the fund
including a gift in memory of
Mrs. Oma Mead by Mr. and
Mrs. Earl Mead and a
memorial for Mrs. Min ter
Smith by Mrs. Leo Bennett.
Mrs. Richard Clement,
chairman of the beautification
committee, reported on various
efforts of the committee which
included general leveling of lots
and the replacement of shrubs
and trees. Memorials received
for this fund were for Mrs. Ann
Clapp by Mrs. A.A. Tetts and
Mr. and Mrs. B.F. Ashcroft; for

Sulphur Bluff Mothers
Treated at Salad Supper
Mothers of Sulphur Bluff
Young Homemakers were
honored at a salad supper at the
homemaker’s May meeting.
Patricia Domer opened the
program reciting a poem
dedicated to the mothers.
During the business session
plans were made by the group
to attend the Area VI Summmer
Workshop to the held in
Hallsville on June 7. Other
projects planned for June in-
clude a Public Helath Screening
Clinic on June 18 to be spon-
sored by the young
homemakers.
Reporting on the YHT’ers
First Aid Course members
announced the project had been
a success with nineteen
YHT’ers and community
members completing the eight
hour course.
Proceeds from the group’s
can collection held earlier in the
year were donated to the
Sulphur Bluff School to help buy
new basketball uniforms.
The club announced that
applications for the YHT Little
Sister Scholarship have been
turned over to the awards
committee. The winner of the
$100 scholarship will be an-
nounced at graduation exer-
cises in Sulphur Bluff May 23.
A special mother’s door prize
was awarded during the
meeting to Sybil Deaton.
Winner of the club door prize
was Janie Vandiver.
The group will hold their next
meeting June 5 with Helen boles
as the guest speaker.

Hold Election
American Legion Post No. 642
and Ladies Auxiliary met
Monday, May 5 to elect officers
for the coming year.
Elected to serve the post
were: Earl Smith, commander;
Joe M. Smiddy, 1st vice-

Homer Minty, adjutant-finance
officer; Tracy Berry, service

Miss Susan Kay Burtch,
bride-elect of Michael Eugene
Warren, was honored with a
miscellaneous shower Satur-
day, May 3 in the home of Mrs.
Jacquelyn Brice.
Guests were greeted by the
honoree, her mother, Mrs. Ken
Burtch, and hostesses Karey
Brice and Mrs. Brice.
Finger sandwiches, relishes,
cookies and punch were served
from a table centered with an
arrangement of red roses.
Miss Burtch and Mr. Warren
will be united in marriage
Saturday, May 31 at the First
United Methodist Church.

Are Installed
“The Artist” was the
program-presented to members
of the Alpha Delta Kappa
chapter of Beta Sigma Phi at
the group’s May S meeting held
in the home of Jan Massey.
Linda Potts was in charge of the
evening’s program.
New officers for the coming
year were installed at the
meeting by outgoing president,
Star Zech. Installed were:
Sandra McCasland, president;
Terry Gibson, vice-president;
Nancy Hayes, recording
secretary; Star Zech,
corresponding secretary;
Paula Price, treasurer; and
Rozan Sellers, extension of-
ficer.
Members welcomed Ruan
Wagner to the chapter as a
transfer from Xi Nu Epsilon in
Fort Worth. Other members
attending included Sherry King,
Paula Price, Linda Potts, Terry
Gibson, Jan Massey, Sandra
McCasland, Star Zech, Nancy
Hayes and Rozan Sellers.
Refreshments of cake, tea,
coffee and soft drinks were

wedding vows in a 2 p.m.
ceremony Saturday, March 29
at Whispering Pines Baptist
Church at Conroe. The Rev.
Wayne Cook, grandfather of the
bridegroom, officiated.
The bride is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. J. Lynn Tyler of
Iola and the granddaughter of
Velma Harmon of Huffman and
Idella Taylor of Houston.
Parents of the bridegroom are
Mr. and Mrs. George A. Law of
Pine Forest. He is the grandson
of the Rev. and Mrs. Wayne
Cook and Lois Law, all of
Lubbock.
An archway decorated with
English ivy and yellow mums
adorned the church for the
ceremony.
The “Wedding March” was
presented by Kay Pruitt.
Debbie Matthew and Bill
Cunningham sang “The Lord’s
Prayer” and “We’ve Only Just
Begun.”
Given in marriage by her
father the bride chose an ante-
bellum gown of silk chiffon and
Chantilly lace. The fingertip
veil, designed by the bride’s
mother, was edged with.
Chantilly lace. She carried an
arrangement of white silk roses
on a lace fan.
Pamela King of Huffman
served as maid of honor.
Bridesmaids were Julie Haffer
of Midland, Sheila Beckner, Jill
Pursell and Glenna Harmon,
cousins of the bride, all of
Houston. Serving as flower girl
was Julia McCauley of Porter,
cousin of the bride.
Bridal attendants wore brown
silk knit dresses with beige lace
capes. Each one carried a long
stemmed yellow rose.
Jamie Law of Pine Forest
attended his brother as best
man. Groomsmen were Craig
Friemel and Hill Culpepper of
Cameron, Glen Mattison of
Como and Steve Diamond of
Sulphur Springs. Serving as
ushers were Paul Summerlin of
College Station and Eddie
'Gibson of Colorado City.'

Sulphur Springs area were Mr.
and Mrs. Bemie Beers and
Shari, Mr. and Mrs. W.C.

A reception hosted by the
bride’s parents was held in the
church fellowship hall. The
bride’s cake was decorated with
yellow and green and the
bridegroom’s cake, made by
the bride’s mother, was Ger-
man chocolate.
The bridegroom’s parents
hosted a rehearsal dinner for
the bridal party at Steak and
Ale in Conroe where the
bridegroom presented the bride
with a floating heart necklace
centered with a diamond.
The bride, a graduate of
Huffman High School, was
employed by Florida In-
ternational Forwarders in
Houston. A graduate of Como-
Pickton High School, the
bridegroom is a 1979 graduate
of Texas A&M University. He is
employed by the firm of Burgin
and Johnson.
The couple are making their
home in Pine Forest.

honored with a come and go
baby shower Saturday, April 26
at the home of Mrs. Larry
Blount.
Co-hostesses for the occasion
were Mrs. Blount, Mrs. Joe
Weaver, Mrs. Steve Moss, Mrs.
Don Worsham and Miss Becky
Seale.
Refreshments included a T-
shirt cake in pink and blue with
“Baby Harry” printed on it and
citrus cream punch.
The honoree was presented
with an array of gifts.
A spring luncheon closed out
the club year for members of
the Standard Club. The group
met for their final 1979-80
meeting in the Woman’s Buildin
May 2.
Tables were decorated with
spring iris, pink roses and
peonies.
Mrs. Phil McDonald en-
tertained members and guests
at the piano with the music,
“Falling Waters,” “Last
Date,” “The Entertainer,” and
“How Great Thou Art.”
Mrs. McDonald, who has
spent several years teaching
piano, was well received by the
group.

the 1980-81 club year was
conducted by Mrs. Lewis Helm.

Miss Peggy Penn, bride-elect
of Rin Key of Sherman, was
honored with a miscellaneous
bridal shower Sunday af-
ternoon, May 4 in the home of
Mrs. Bill Hager. Hostesses for
the event were Mrs. Ken
Sparks, Mrs. Joe Moore, Mrs.
Harry West, Mrs. Jean Rawson,
Mrs. Bill Hager and Julie
Hager.
The bride-elect’s chosen
colors of peach, blue and yellow
were carried out in the table
decorations. The cake of pale
peach color was accented with
white wedding bells and flowers
of blue and yellow. Nuts and
yellow mints with peach punch
were served from a silver
punch bowl. An arrangement of
daisies in the bride-to-be’s
chosen colors accented the
table decorations.

guests. The couple will wed
May 30 in Sulphur Springs.
