neer Hopkins County lamtlies who

actis itv and John requested that mem-
bers ol Waverlv research their own
roots in this section so then families
can he listed
John emphasized that history hap-
pened. not because ol large corpora-
tions and foundations and rich set
tiers, but because the people moving
West wanted to establish homes and
means of a productive livelihood in
tilts area they had chosen.
John brought out the importance of
events ol the past having a positive
effect on establishments ol the pre-
sent. He gave as an example the tirst
lihrars m Sulphur Springs consisting
of several young women who orga-
nized a library that met in the homes
of the members and who worked to
get a Carnegie grant to build a very
handsome library that ssas located on
Oak Avenue. The present light fix-
tures with cut glass prisms in the
Woman's Building were first bought
and installed by the club m the build
me housing the Carnegie l ibrary

forget to let The News-Telegram
know about your engagement and
wedding.
Engagement and wedding
announcement forms may be picked
up at The News-Telegram during
business hours. 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Monday through Friday.
Photographs are used with
engagement announcements. Wed-
ding announcements may be
accompanied by a photograph if it
is brought to the newspaper within
six weeks after the wedding. A good
black and while or color portrait of
the couple or bride is preferred.
Computer scans of photographs and
soft focus photographs are not rec-
ommended. The society editor may
refuse publication of any photo-
graph.
All wedding announcements are
subject to being shortened and pho-
tographs may he cropped at the dis-
cretion of the society editor.
All wedding photographs ate kept
on file in the newsroom, where they
may be picked up the Monday after
publication. Photos must be
reclaimed within three weeks alter
publication. Out-of-town pho-
tographs must be accompanied by a
self-addressed, stamped envelope in
order to be returned by mail.
Information for items submitted
for publication in the Variety sec-
tion must he neatly printed or typed.
Illegible items will not be used.
Please include a phone number on
all items submitted.
Weddings and engagements are
published in the Sunday edition of
The News-Telegram.
Birthday announcements will run
with or without a photograph lor
individuals age 6 or younger and
age 75 or older.
