Pecan farmers were very
happy to see a mechanical
pecan harvester roll into the
community last week, and it
certainly gathered many
pounds of nuts. However, quite
a bit of manual pick-up is
scheduled to be done by the
farmers, crows, cows and
squirrels. The community has
had a bountiful harvest.
Farmers were delighted to
see Saturday night’s and
Sunday’s rainfall.

The State Department of
Highways and Transportation
has announced that it will
receive sealed proposals for
constructing 6.639 miles of
overlay on Highway 19 from
Sulphur Springs to Birthright
until 9 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12,
when they will be publicly
opened and read.
Plans and specifications are
available In the office of Kirby
W. Pickett, senior resident
engineer in Sulphur Springs.
The work is included in the
1981 Special Rehabilitation
Program passed Oct. 31,1979 by
the State Highway and Public
Transportation Commission.
Purpose of this program is to
strengthen and rehabilitate
sections of highways where
necessary.
When District Engineer R. S.
Thornburrow of Paris first
announced the impending
program, he estimated that the
project would cost about $1.3
million.
