Karan Balts, l#H, and Lisa Aulsbrook art the Woman's Forum
Honortas for April. Miss Bolts, a senior at Sulphur Springs High
School Is a member of tho Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the
yearbook staH and servos as secretary-treasurer of the Future
Homemakers of America and the Student Council. She is a
cheerleader, was elected to the 19M homecoming court, hat
participated in UIL poetry at the regional level and is a member
of the UIL one-act play, "Equus." Miss Boles is the daughter of
Bobby and Helen Boles. Miss Aulsbrook, 17, Is also a senior at
Sulphur Springs High School where she is a member of the Future
Homemakers of America, the Blue Blazes Drill Team and the
yearbook staff. She is the daughter of Don and Cathy Aulsbrook.

Donn Eshell Collins and
Darron Wayne Harred were
united in marriage at 8 p.m.
Friday, April 20, in Como
United Methodist Church. The
Rev. John Allen, pastor of the
Methodist Hopkins County
Cooperative Parish, performed
the double-ring ceremony.
The bride is the daughter of
Don and Joan Collins of Como.
The bridegroom is the son of the
Rev. Harlon and Brenda
Harred of Birthright.
Grandmothers of the bride
are Mrs. Morris Collins of Como
and Mrs. J.J. Shoffit of Sulphur
Springs. The groom’s grand-
parents are Mrs. Pauline
Harred of Birthright and Mr.
and Mrs. Bill Davis of Sulphur
Springs.
The sanctuary of the church
was decorated with white votive
candles, greenery, white Easter
lillies and ferns.
Given in marriage by her
father, the bride wore a white,
street-length dress of lace over
taffeta. The fitted bodice
featured a scoop neckline.
Elbow-length puffed sleeves
and a bow sash completed the
dress.
She carried a silk bouquet of
white roses, carnations and
forget-me-nots interlaced with
ribbons of white and Niagara
Falls green and lace streamers
of white and green.
As she entered the sanctuary,
the bride presented her mother
with a long-stemmed red rose.
Following the ceremony, she
also presented the groom’s
mother with a long-stemmed
red rose.
Attending the bride as maid
of honor was Kim Pletz of
Houston. She wore a dress of
Niagara Falls green featuring a
square collar trimmed with
satin ribbon. The fitted bodice
was also trimmed with satin
ribbon and was accented with a
m
Mr. and Mrs. Darron Wayne Harred
satin sash. Her bouquet was of
fresh white carnations tied with
bows and streamers of ribbon.
Derrek Harred of Birthright
attended his brother as the best
man.
A medley of piano music and
traditional wedding music was
provided by Tanya Allen of
Como. Mrs. Allen and Scott
Farler of Sulphur Springs sang
a duet of, "Endless Love’’ and
"Always and Forever." Mrs.
Allen accompanied on the
piano.
The couple are at home in the
Comers Apartments, 1307 S.
League St., Apt. 8, Sulphur
Springs.
The bride is a graduate of
Como-Pickton High School and
attended Kilgore Junior’
College. She is employed with
the Sulphur Springs Sports
Center.
The bridegroom is a graduate
of Sulphur Springs High School
and is employed with Copy
Products in Sulphur Springs.
Out-of-town guests attending
the wedding included Julie
Sheedy, sister of the bride, of
Liberal, Kan.; Miss Tiffany
Pletz of Houston and Gary
Crowson of Dallas.
Showers
A bridal shower was held
April 3 in the home of Mrs. Gary
Odom of Sulphur Springs.
Hostesses for the event were
Mrs. Odom, Mrs. Sandra Webb
of Como, Mrs. Julie Sheedy of
Liberal, Kan., and Mrs. Sue
Sheedy of Pickton.
The dining table was covered
with a yellow lace tablecloth
and featured a fern centerpiece.
Pineapple punch, nuts, mints,
sand tarts, various fruits and
cream cheese and mar-
shmallow dip were served to the
guests.
The den was decorated with
fresh flowers, and the gift table
was covered with a patchwork
cloth.
The couple received an array
of gifts.
Sunday, April IS, the women
of the Independent Baptist
Church hosted a shower in the
home of Dorothy Fay Coke of
Birthright.
Refreshments of strawberry
punch, various homemade
cookies and nuts were served.
A miscellaneous shower for
the couple was held April 17 in
the fellowship hall of Como
United Methodist Church.
Hostesses were Mmes. Nancy
Rowell, Mary Barnhart,
Merlene Lohr, Glenna Caddell
and Dorothy Petty.
The refreshment table was
covered with a white lace cloth
and featured a centerpiece of
various colors of iris. The
napkins were inscribed with
"Donn Eshell and Darron."
Blueberry cake, strawberry
cake, pina colada cake, nuts,
mints, iced tea and lemonaid
were served to approximately
28 guests.

Alpha Alpha
Kappa
Alpha Alpha Kappa chapter
of Beta Sigma Phi met Monday,
April 23, at the Market Fare in
Mount Vernon.
While sampling hors
d’oeuvres and refreshments
provided by the hostess, Lillie
Bush, club members enjoyed a
program presented by Suzanne
Hamil on her recent trip to
Nashville, including pictures of
historical attractions of the
city.
The meeting was called to
order by President Mary Beth
Hulen with members and guest
standing for the opening ritual.
Roll call was taken, with six
members present and five
members absent. Donna Boon
was welcomed by the members.
The minutes of the previous
meeting were read and ap-
proved.
A head count was taken to
determine the number of
members planning to attend
Founder’s Day activities. A
discussion was held concerning
the Founder’s Day program,
with a rehearsal of the sketch
set for 7 p.m. Thursday in the
home of Elaine Davis.
In other action, a discussion
of the chapter’s yardstick was
held, with members making
suggestions on how to improve
the chapter’s rating.
The participation of Beta
Sigma Phi toward the
renovation of the Statue of
Liberty was also brought to the
chapter’s attention. The
sorority is raising funds
designated to go toward the
restoration of the torch on the
statue.
The meeting was adjourned
with members and guest
standing for the closing ritual
and joining hands for the
Mizpah.
Chapter members enjoyed a
tour of the Hay Market, an
antique specialty shop operated
in conjunction with the Market
Fare in Mount Vernon.
Mother's
Culture Club
The Mother’s Culture Club
met Thursday, April 19, for its
regular meeting and to honor
the dads of the Mother’s Club.
A meal at Bartley’s Bar-B-Q
was served buffet style by
David and Kris Bartley.
Members had previously
voted on the Dad of the Year,
and Rickey Loyd was an-
nounced as the winner for his
continual support of the club.
He received a plaque.
A special certificate of ap-
preciation went to Alan Spencer
for his help and support of the
club during the year.
Following the presentations
and a brief business meeting,
members traveled to the
Silverleaf Athletic Club for an
evening of activities. Wallyball,
basketball, racquetball, the
jacuzzi and an aerobics fitness
class by club member Mona
Daniel were participated in by
everyone.
Refreshments were served.

engagement of their daughter, Pam, to Samuel Dwight Gasaway,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Sammie Gasaway of Sulphur Springs. The
bride-elect is a 1979 graduate of Greenville High School and a 1913
graduate of Jarvis Christian College, Hawkins. She is currently
employed with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas in Dallas. The
prospective gridegroom is a 1977 graduate of Sulphur Springs
High School and is employed with Jones Printing of Sulphur
Springs. The couple will be wed at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, June 30, in
the New Hope Baptist Church, Greenville.
