One-hundred and four art to achieve a likeness with a
Miss Janice Bult became the
bride of Jimmy Don Dunn in a
double-ring ceremony Friday,
April 11 at 7:30 p.m. in the Como
United Methodist Church. The
Rev. Larry Nicolson read the
vows for the ceremony.
Mr. and Mrs. William Bult of
Phoenix, Ariz. are parents of
the bride. The bridegroom is the
son of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Dunn of
Paris.
Given in marriage by her
father the bride chose a white
chiffon gown with a natural
waistline. The Victorian
neckline was circled with
Chantilly lace and the sheer
yoke of Pointe-de-spirit created
an off the shoulder effect with a
wide ruffle of lace. Her sheer
fitted sleeves were caught at

Is Honored At
Dinner Party
Miss Regina Mclntire, a
member of the 1980 graduating
class of Sulphur Springs High
School, was honored with a
dinner party at the home of Dr.
and Mrs. Ben Derryl Wood on
April 24.
Co-hosting the affair was
their daughter, Mrs. Bill
Mclntire, sister-in-law of the
honoree.
The quartet tables were
covered with white cutwork
linen and centered with fresh
arrangements of spring
flowers.
The menu for the evening
consisted of beef stroganoff,
noodles, broccoli almondine,
fresh fruit salad, hot rolls,
homemade peach ice cream
and cake.
Following the dinner Miss
Mclntire was presented with a
gift and guests enjoyed games
of bingo.
The guest list included

Is Honored At
Grad Luncheon
Col. and Mrs. Oran Stovall of
Bowie were hosts for a
graduation luncheon honoring
their granddaughter, Kathryn
Latham, a 1980 spring graduate
at Sulphur Springs High School.
The luncheon was held at the
Magic Pan in Northpark
Saturday, April 26. Tables were
decorated with the traditional
graduation motif including the
‘wise ole owl’.
Name cards and gift favors
marked the places of guests Lee
Jackson, Sonja Rowland, Kelly
McFadden, Bonnie Booker,
Lisa Hurley and Jill Pearson. A
gift from the hosts marked the
honoree’s place.
Special guests were Wava
Hurley and Mrs. Jerry Miller
and daughter Toni of Bowie.

the chapel length veil of illusion
edged in matching lace.
The couple will make their
home in Sulphur Springs.
John Berthier will be the
featured artist from the Art
League of Hopkins County at
the public library in May.
Berthier has been a resident of
Sulphur Springs since his
retirement and is married to
the former Bonnie Morgan.
Having studied art in early
life Berthier grew up in Dallas
and spent most of his life as a
traveling dry goods salesman.
Following his retirement he
began to paint seriously in oils.
The family of Carl B. and
Vera Goodson Anderson held a
reunion Sunday, April 20 at the
home of Josie Ponder in
Sulphur Springs.

Of Year Event
Mr. and Mrs. Mayo Vick’s
country home near Brashear
was the setting for the final
meeting of the Waverly Club
held April 25.
The Vick’s home was
decorated with spring flowers
and plants and each luncheon
table was centered with an
array of African violets.
Following the invocation
given by Mrs. Leeman Teetes a
luncheon was served to the
members by their hostesses.
Mrs. W.A. Carothers, club
president, presided over a brief
business session and Mrs. S.T.
Garrison, incoming president,
named her committees for the
1980-81 club year.
Mrs. Carothers recognized
her committees for the past
club year with special thanks
going to the social committee.

Mrs. Troy Tanton of Sulphur
Springs was honored with a
baby shower Saturday, April 19
at Calvary Baptist Church.
Mrs. Tanton received an

Total health care for pets was
the topic presented by local
veterinarian, Dr. Jackie
Willingham, at the April 15
meeting of the Newcomer’s
Club.
Club president Connie
Newcomb presided over the
business meeting with club
members voting to contribute
toward the purchase of the rape
film to be used in Sulphur
Springs.
Future Newcomer activities
include a couple’s dinner at the
home of Charlotte Zahn on May
17 and a progran on self-defense
and burglar proofing your home
to be presented by Helen Boles
at the next slated meeting in the
People’s National Bank

miscellaneous come-and-go
bridal shower Saturday, April
12 in the community room of the
First National Bank in Sulphur
Springs.
Hostesses for the event were
Mrs. Raymond Halcomb, Mrs.
Truman Rogers and Mrs.
Coleman Gunter.
Guests attending were served
petit fours and punch. The room
was decorated in the bride-to-
be’s chosen colors of blue and
ivory. The bride-to-be was
presented with an array of gifts.

For Bro. Acker
Day Festivities
Sunday, April 13 was
designated Bro. Carl Acker Day
by persons in the Greenpond
community. The celebration
began Sunday morning at the
Greenpond church with a
surprise special program and
plaque presentation for Bro.
Acker.
Bro. Acker has pastored 43
years in Hopkins, Wood and
Upshur Counties. Acker and his
wife have three sons, all of
Dallas.
Approximately 200 people
signed the register for the day
representing five churches
where Acker has pastored.
Guests including Acker’s entire
family except for one daughter-
in-law were from Gilmer,
Winnsboro, Edgewood, Quit-
man, Sulphur Springs, Pickton,
Dallas and Como. Traveling the
fartherest for the event was the
honoree’s granddaughter and
her husband who came from
Austin.
Community Room May 20. The
next card night will be held May
27 at the People’s National
Bank Community Room.

Bank Community Room.

second demonstration of the
year presented by the North
East Texas Art Association.
Guest artist for the demon-
stration and luncheon was Ray
Froman, portrait painter, from
Dallas.
Froman began the demon-
stration with a lecture on
techniques and painting on the
right side of the brain. “The
right side of your brain,” ex-
plained Froman, “is your
creative side while the left side
is the intellectural side. All art
forms should be creative and to
do this it is necessary to learn to
see that which is around us.”
Following the lecture Froman
demonstrated step-by-step
portrait painting methods in-
cluding feature layouts, color
mixing for flesh tones and how

Pam Green, a senior student
at Saltillo High School, placed
third in journalism headline
writing in the state University
Interscholastic League com-
petition in Austin.
Pam also was a state meet
contestant in news writing.
There are four journalism
contests and of the 48 state
contestants, Pam and one other
student were the only ones to
quality to participate in two
contests.
Polly Burkett, a junior at
Saltillo, was an alternate to the
state meet in journalism in
editorial writing.
Her participating in the state
meet qualifies Pam to apply for
a UIL scholarship. There are
two Saltillo students currently
receiving UIL scholarships.

Hopkins County Agricultural
Workers Association were
disappointed the other day
when the pressure of business
forced Sam Malaney to bow out
of a scheduled talk. Malaney is
manager of Ocean Spray
Cranberry in Sulphur Springs
and he explained to Ag Workers
representatives that a new line
operation was starting up and
he needed to be around...Joe
Cerrentani, city building in-
spector, is encouraged that
construction work is continuing
fairly strong here despite the
shortage of housing funds
because of high interest rates.
He pointed out that 19 new
homes have been permitted so
far this year and others are on
the drawing boards...Contacts
also have been made with
Cerrentani about possible
business building expansions
that could boost the permit
totals to date...Rumors floating
around town have been in-
teresting this week. But the
nature of the rumors are not
those that should be repeated.

Julius Mapes said his town
came up with a new political
twist Saturday. For the first
time in history, a primary for
the Republican Party was held
in Yantis...He added that the
Thursday night rain, which
amounted to only one half of an
inch at Yantis, was just about
all that was needed at this

that peppered an area northeast
of Yantis...Visitors to the Lone
Star Beefmasters Association

floral arrangement,” stated
Mrs. Buel Berry at the April
meeting of the Lunch ’N Learn
Club held in the county judge’s
office in the courthouse.

basics of Flower Arranging to

Syble Mitchel, Grace Potts,
Lynda Sprague, Martha
Sprague, Rosemary Bailey,

Mrs. Berry demonstrated
how to arrange silk flowers in a
wicker basket. At the next
meeting to be held at 12:05 on
May 22, the “methods of drying
flowers” will be the topic. The

plant manager, already is
mapping plans for the United
Fund drive this fall. He is the
campaign director, which is a
time-consuming job in it-
self...The mayor of Tira, Coy
Vicars, is president of the
United Fund. His civilian job is
personnel manager of the huge
Grocery Supply Company in
Sulphur Springs...Joe Bob
Burgin, a fellow official at
Grocery Supply, will be giving
Vicars solid support in the
drive, along with many others.

makes canoeing sound like an
exciting, beautiful ex-
perience...If Wayne Nipper has
his way, Wood County will
become the Christmas tree
growing center in Texas. He
recently planted 60,000
genetically selected Virginia
Pine tree seeds. He hopes to
produce 30,000 seedlings, which
will be ready for transplanting
in January...It’ll be about five
years before the trees will be
ready for the Christmas
market...Acie Cannaday, 00,
former Winnsboro coach, died
at Mesquite last week. Burial
was in Mount Vernon, his
former home...Texas Power &
Light Company has confirmed
an item reported herein several
months ago: They’ll be moving
in 15-17 employees—many with
families — to man their new
service center opening in
January on Industrial Drive.
When emergencies strike, such
as ice storms, the center will
really become a beehive of
activity.

Couple to wed June 28
Mrs. Harold White of Saltillo announces the engagement and
approaching marriage of her daughter, Brenda Gail, to Kerry
Wayne Garmon. Parents of the prospective bridegroom are Mr.
