Mr. and Mrs. Billy Penn of Sulphur Springs announce the
engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter,
Peggy Sue of Sherman, to Rin Roland Key of Sherman. Parents
of the bridegroom are Mr. and Mrs. Jack Key of Sherman. The
couple will wed in a 7 p.m. ceremony Friday, May 30 in the home
of the bride's parents.

The Rev. and Mrs. Jack R. Adams of Sulphur Springs announce
the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter,
Barbara Jo, to James Robert Fransworth of Edgewood. Mr. and
Mrs. Robert Lee Fransworth of Edgewood are parents of the
future bridegroom. Vows will be exchanged Friday, June 6 at
7:30 p.m. in the Lee-Hi Missionary Baptist Church.
Couple to repeat vows
Mr. and Mrs. Ray Hurley and William Jake Mabe announce the
engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter,
Karen Renee, to Kent Bailey, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy
Bailey. Vows will be exchanged Saturday, May 24 at 7:30 p.m. in
the Calvary Baptist Church. All friends and relatives of the

Grice-Reed Repeat
Vows In Ceremony
Mary Elizabeth Grice of
Dallas and Michael Wayne
Reed of Grand Prarie repeated
wedding vows Friday, April 4
at 7:30 p.m. in the Hillcrest
Baptist Church in Dallas. The
Rev. Dickson H. Rial, pastor of
the church, officiated the
double-ring nuptials.
Parents of the bride are Mr.
and Mrs. Walter A. Grice of
Sulphur Springs. Mr. and Mrs.
Johnnie W. Reed of Dallas are
parents of the bridegroom.
Given in marriage by her
father the bride chose a formal
gown in the Edwardian period
style. The gown of peau satin
was combined with French
alencon lace of diamond white.
The nostalgic gown featured a
sheer yoke outlined in lace and
a high neck. Pearl trimmed
lace extended down the bodice
front with lace circling the
waist. Lace appliques were
scattered down the long fitted
sleeves and her controlled A-
line skirt was adorned with
scattered lace appliques. The
hemline was edged in lace
scallops extending to the edge
of the train which was formed
at the center back of the bodice
and unfolded to a chapel length
veil with matching lace. The
veil was trimmed in lace ap-
pliques and edged in satin peau
matching the dress. The veil
fell from a half bonnet of
matching lace.
The bride carried a silk
colonial styled bouquet of white
roses, blue orange blossoms
and baby’s breath. She ob-
served the tradition of
“something old, something
new, something borrowed,
something blue, and a sixpence
in her shoe.”
The bride presented her
mother and the bridegroom’s
mother each with a long-
stemmed red rose during the
ceremony.
Mrs. Ricky Jackson of
Greenville served as matron of
honor. Bridesmaids were Mrs.
Rodney Coleman of Arlington,
Mrs. Michael Ball of Arlington,
cousin of the bride, and Miss
Cecilia Dyess of Mineola.
The bridal attendants wore
gowns of satin Charmeuse in
dresden blue. They carried
nosegays of blue, white, and
yellow feathered carnations
sprinkled with baby’s breath.
Angela Paul of De Soto was the
flower girl. She wore a full-
length blue gown trimmed in
lace.
Johnnie W. Reed attended Us
son as best maa Groomsmen
were Glen Robinson of Dallas,
Charles Cowser of Dallas,
cousin of the bridegroom, and
Randy Thome of Duncanville.
Ushers were Ricky Jackson of
Greenville, Jim Wardlaw,
cousin of the bride from Austin,
Ken Hawley of Dallas, and
Larry Balthrep of Duncanville.
Reed Cowser of Fort Worth
served his cousin as ring
bearer.
A program of nuptial music
was presented by Randy Orey,
organist, Mrs. Jerry Keen of
DeSoto who sang “The Wed-
ding Song”, Gary Nickell of
Dallas who performed “What a
Difference You’ve Made in My
Life,” Mrs. Jack McCown who
sang “Till There Was You,”
and Truett Huffstutler of De
Soto who presented “Wedding
Prayer.”
Candlelighters for the
ceremony were Jim Wardlaw
and Ken Hawley.
The bride’s parents were
hosts for a reception following
the ceremony in the fellowship
hall of the church. Houseparty
members were Mrs. James
Paul of De Soto, Miss Judy
Wardlaw, cousin of the bride
from Waco, Mrs. Steve Bailey
of Houston, Mrs. Norman
Sanders of Sulphur Springs,
Cal., Mrs. Clarence Brown of
Duncanville, and Mrs. Doug
Moore of Sulphur Springs, Tex.
Miss Libby Keen of De Soto
presided at the registry.
The bride’s table was
covered with a floor-length
white lace skirt accented with
blue in the skirt and flowers.
The table was centered with a
three-tiered wedding cake
trimmed in garlands of blue
flowers. The bridegroom’s
table was draped with a blue
floor-length cover and held a
chocolate cake and an
arrangement of blue flowers.
Coffee was served from a silver
coffee service.
Following a wedding trip to
New Orleans, La. the couple
will make their home in Grand
Prairie.
The bride received her
bachelor of science degree
from Baylor University and her
master’s degree in education
from East Texas State
University. She is currently a
fourth grade teacher in De
Soto. The bridegroom attended
Mountain View College and El
Centro. He is employed at
Plastics Manufacturing
Company in Dallas.
The bridegroom’s parents
were hosts for a rehearsal
dinner April 3 at the Barton
House Restaurant in Dun-
canville.
Showers honoring the couple
began March 8 with a
miscellaneous shower.

afternoon graduation party
Wednesday, April 2 in the home
of Mrs. Dan Roper.
Decorations for the occasion
were carried out in a blue and
gold theme. A decorated cake
featuring a tennis racket
conveyed Susan’s special in-
terest in the sport The cake
was served with homemade ice
cream.
Those attending the party
were: Maleta Fox, Sonja
Rowland, Donna Jordan,
Deneen Reynolds, Angelika
Osbon, Cathy Newsom, Jeanna
Moseley, Missy Hackney,
Lydia Wallace, Mary Pilcher,
Kim Oetting, and Martha
Reynolds, mother of the
honoree.
The honoree was presented a
gift by her hostesses, Mrs.
Imogene Barnett, Mrs Sue
Byrd, Mrs. Glenda Mahrer,
Mrs. Rebecca Roper, and Mrs.
Sandra Wardrup.
the Civic Center. The choice
was made at the group’s April 4
meeting held in the Woman’s
Building with Miss Adell Hale
presiding.
Eighteen members were
present for the session along
with guests, Mrs. Linda
(Beckham) Murdock, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Sterling
Beckham, and Mrs. Murdock’s
daughters, Cindy and Becky
Murdock, of Mesquite.
During the opening program
the minutes were read by club
secretary, Mrs. Aubrey
Gamblin followed by the
business session at which
results of the club’s successful
bake and goodie sale were
reported.
Club members voted to
donate $25 to the Woman’s
Building to be used for
shrubbery around the building.
The afternoon’s program was
presented by Joe Weaver and
Amanda Boyle who entertained
members with selections of
popular and religious songs.

members and their guests were
invited to a tea table filled with
sandwiches, cookies, and
punch.
The membership, calendar,
and yearbook committees woe
hostesses for the day.
The group’s next meeting will
be their spring picnic to be held
May 2 in the Woman's Building.

shower in the People’s National
Bank hosted by employees of

held March 22 at the First
Baptist Church in Sulphur
Springs. Hostesses were Mmes.
Forum Finishes Season
With Chamber Singers
Members of the Woman’s
Forum closed out the 1979-80
club year at their April 9 lun-
cheon as officers for the 1980-81
club year began serving at
their new posts.
Miss Adell Hale who took
over the reins as Forum
president opened the meeting
by welcoming members and
guests and introducing Mrs.
Jim Dobson who presented the
invocation.
Mrs. Doris Ashby served a
spring buffet of mock filet,
seasoned peas, cauliflower with
cheese, an array of fruit and
vegetable salads, hot rolls,
coffee, tea and lemon pie.
Dining tables for the luncheon
were adorned with minature
potted spring flowers and the
head table was centered with a
basket of yellow silk flowers.
Following the luncheon Miss
Hale presided over the business
meeting at which Mrs.
Christine Fox, recording
secretary, read the minutes of
the last meeting. Miss Hale

Highlight NH
FHA Session
Guest speaker for the March
meeting of the North Hopkins
Future Homemakers of
America was Daydee Huie
representing Mae’s Magic
Mirror of Cooper.
Mrs. Huie showed '80 spring
fashions modeled by FHA
chapter members Darla Ivey
and Janet Gibhy. Mrs. Huie
also discussed make-up ap-
plication and new styles and
colors.
Chapter delegates to the Area
VI FHA meeting in Tyler
recognized at the session were
Mary Lou Estes, Debbie
Goldsmith, Lisa Speed, Janet
Gibby, Area VI Parliamen-
tarian, Deana VanDeuenter,
Cindy Hall, Bonnie Harris, and
Laura Penny. The group was
accompanied by advisor, Mrs.
Deborah Durham, and guests,
Mr. and Mrs. Jetty Gibby,
Donna Gibby, Joyce Gold-
smith, and Mr. and Mrs. W.S.
Long.
Members who will represent
the chapter at the state meeting
in Houston on April 17-18 will be
Mary Lou Estes, Sandy Hall,
and Bonnie Harris.

Mrs. Larry Maroney,
president of the host Tanti
Club, took over the program
introducing the East Texas
State University Chamber
Singers.
The group who has recently
returned from a tour of Europe
performed an all-American
program for Forum members.
A medley consisting of the
“Laughing Song”, “The
Madman’s Song,” and
“Walking on the Grass” opened
the show. The group’s next
selection was "Variations on
Ah Holy Jesus” by Petrich. The
singers closed out the program
with “A Jubilant Song”
featuring soloist Alison
Chandler.
The group performs under
the direction of William
Gorham.
The Forum will suspend
meetings during the summer
months but will begin the new
club year Wednesday, Oct. 1.
Choir Students
Present Play
For Local PTA
Choir students at the Middle
School under the direction of
Mrs. Martha Scott presented a
muscial play entitled “Star
Power” at the recent meeting
of the Middle School PTA.
The play, which focused on
ecology and energy, featured
creatures from outer space
along with baseball players and
a group intent on building an
energy plant on the site of the
baseball field.
Mrs. Judy Gilreath opened
the business sesssion with
members voting to contribute
$25 to the travel fund of Mrs.
Linda Aiken, president of
Texas District ffl PTA. Mrs.
Aiken is planning to attend the
national PTA meeting to be
held this summer.
The group also voted to build
a concrete bench shaped in an
“M” or the Middle School
campus for the students.
Following the introduction of
Mrs. Ruthmary Hall who will
serve as next year’s . ££4,,-
president the meeting was
adjourned.

engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Judy
Kay, to Jerry R. Caddell of Como. Parents of the prospective
bridegroom are Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Caddell of Como. The couple

a two-story city hall at Winn-
sboro...Prior to the opening of

primary, County Clerk Mary
Attlesey had received several
requests from military per-
sonnel seeking ballots. They
will be processed beginning

Ashby returned from a two
weeks vacation in Panama last
week and sported sun tans from
considerable beach time in the
tropical country...Elaine was
born in Panama, where her
father, S. D. Mann, was em-
ployed for many years before
retiring to Hopkins County. She
was a teenager when the family
left Panama, but she had no
trouble finding the home they
had lived in despite landscape
changes...The Ashbys visited
the island where the Shah of
Iran had stayed. He and his
family had departed only a day
before their arrival in
Panama...One of the highlights
of their trip was a VIP run
through the canal which was
arranged by relatives still
employed in the Canal
Zone...Weber H. Fouts is an
amateur gardener and often
shares his vegetables with
friends. He says he has a hard
time keeping ahead of the
weeds this spring...The racing
season at Hot Springs, Ark.
ended Saturday, thereby
shutting down a favorite spot
for many local people...The
