Mr. and Mrs. Richard Teer of Como announce the engagement
and approaching marriage of their daughter, Lori Ann, to Gary
Earl Johnson of Como. Parents of the prospective bridegroom
are Mr. and Mrs. Earl S. Johnson of Como. The couple will
exchange vows in a 7:30 p.m. ceremony Saturday, June 28 in the
Greenpond Baptist Church. Friends and relatives of the couple

Open house to honor 50th
Mr. and Mrs. Wayland Woodard, longtime residents of Sulphur
Springs and South Liberty, will be honored Sunday, May 4 on
their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house. The golden
celebration will be held from 2-4 p.m. at 114 Jonas St. The
honorees are the parents of Clifford Woodard and Mrs. Dana
Wilcher of Sulphur Springs, Mrs. Lavelle Middleton of Miller
Grove, Dwain Woodard of Mesquite and Bruce Woodard of Lake
Tawakani. They have ten grandchildren and one great-
granddaughter. All friends and relatives of the couple are in-
vited to attend.

Valedictorian is Gene Mat-
tison, son of Tucker and Clara
Mattison of Como. He is
finishing the eighth grade with
an overall average of 98. In
addition to maintaining a high
academic average, Gene has
played football, basketall, track
and baseball. He also fishes and
hunts as a hobby.
Salutatorian is Lisa Flora,
daughter of Pat and Carolyn
Flora 9f,.CQmo. Lisa, is com-
pleting the eighth grade with a
96 overall average. Lisa is am
member of the Southern Stars
drill team. Her hobbies include
motorcycle riding and swim-
ming.
Couple will wed June 14
Mr. and Mrs. Edward Lee of McKinney announce the
engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter,
Catherine Marie, to Tony D. Willis of Clifton. The prospective
bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John D. Willis, former
residents of Sulphur Springs. Miss Lee is a 1975 graduate of
McKinney High School and a 1979 graduate of Stephen F. Austin
State University. She is now employed by Ernst and Whinnie
C.P.A. firm in Houston. Willis is a 1974 graduate of Sulphur
Springs High and a 1979 graduate of Stephen F. Austin. He is
now employed as a coach in the LaMarque Independent School
District. The couple will repeat their vows in the First Baptist
Church in McKinney on Saturday, June 14 at 7 p.m. A reception
will follow the ceremony.

“The Bald Soprano” was the
featured program presented by
the Sulphur Springs High
School Drama class at the April
22 meeting of the Business and
Professional Woman’s Club.
B&PW president Julie
Clement called the meeting to
order followed by the in-
vocation given by Mrs. S.T.
Garrison. The Civic Par-
ticipation committee was in
charge of the evening’s
program with Mrs. Bessie
Goldsmith furnishing table
decorations of spring silk
flowers.
The civic committee in-
troduced Mrs. Karen Mclntire
and her drama class to the
group. Mrs. Mclntire is the wife
of Bill Mclntire and the
daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Ben
Woods. She received her B.A. in
Drama at the University of
Dallas and her master’s in
Education at East Texas State
University.
This is Mrs. Mclntire’s
second year in the Sulphur
Springs school district and her
first year as speech and drama
teacher.

This year’s rifle project was
capped off with the County
Rifle Match held at Dike on
Tuesday, April 22. We had
twenty-three members par-
ticipating in this match to see
who would rpresent us at the
district match on May 3 in
Longview.
The top four shooters were
Brad Argenbright, Pat Potts
Jr., Tony Merry and Virgie
Johnson. These three boys and
one girl will be practicing very
hard in preparation for the
district match. There will be
some tough 4-H’ers to beat in
Longview.
We are also trying to get
together a senior team to
represent us. At this time, Joel
Pace is the only confirmed
member.
I want to say thank you to all
the parents and leaders who
were present to help with the
match. Vicki and Bill Allan,
Glenda Harris, Jesse Nance,
Jerry Brandenburgh, Larry
Argenbright, Pat Dickens,
Janie Wright, Gwen Boatman,
Patsy and Pat Potts, Rose
Johnson and Mr. Hunter, Miller
Grove principal, were all a
tremendous help in getting the
rifle match to go as smoothly as
it did.

State Park was the site chosen
to celebrate the 40th wedding
anniversary of W.M. “Babe”
and Merle Fuller Roberts of
Sulphur Springs. The couple
were married April 19,1940, in
Lubbock.
The event was hosted by
Frank and Wilma Roberts
Harkins and their children
Michelle and Lori of Dallas.

Heritage Society Members
Speak to Xi Phi Kappas
Jean Flora was in charge of
the program for the April 21
meeting of the Xi Phi Kappa
chapter featuring speakers Bill
and Uoyd Tomberlin of Dallas
and Mrs. Evelyn May of Black
Oak from the American
Heritage Society.
Chapter president Nancy
Rowell called the meeting to
order and lead the opening
ritual. Members discussed
plans to elect a local citizen to
represent their group at the
Older Citizens banquet to be
held in May. A final decision
will be made at the next
meeting. Members also
reported $537 collected from
the Rock and Roll campaingn
to aid the Heart Fund.
The Como-Pickton
scholarship to be presented by
the chapter will be given at an
awards banquet in May by both
Como chapters Alpha Alpha
Tau and Xi Phi Kappa. The
winner will be chosen within
the next week by the members.
E.C.C. officers for 1980-81
were announced during the
session. Elected to serve were:
Rita Richardson, president;
Debbie Bain, vice-president;
Tally Rasberry, recording
secretary; and Danita Graves,
secretary.
Sue Sheddy, hostess for the
