Engagement announced
Mr. and Mrs. G. C. Magers of Route 5, Sulphur Springs announce
the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter
Nina Lou Magers to Bahram Baba Behzadpour. The bride elect is
a sophomore at East Texas State University where Behzadpour is
a graduate student from Iran. The wedding will be held Sunday,
Dec. 28 at 3 p.m. in the sanctuary of the First Baptist Church.
Vows will be read by Rev. Bud Hill of the Bonham First Christian
Church and Dr. Jack Robbins of the local church. Friends and
relatives of the couple are invited to attend the ceremony.

Roy and Jewel Jobe
Celebrate 40th
On Sunday, Nov. 2,1980 from
2 to 4 p.m., Roy and Jewel Jobe
will be honored with a reception
at the home of their daughter,
Virginia and her husband LH.
Mathews at 619 Millard in
Nacogdoches. Friends of the
family are invited to attend the
occasion.
Mr. and Mrs. Jobe were
married Wednesday, Nov. 3,
1920. The Hopkins County
couple went to the home of
Preacher John Sanders in a
single buggy pulled by a large
bay horse. Roy Jobe was the son
of the late Thomas and
Elizabeth Jobe of Sulphur Bluff
and Jewel Smith was the
daughter of Cal and Ida Smith.
Accompanied by two other
rigs carrying Clyde Massey and
his betrotherd, Mabel Davis,
Uncle Pat Smith and his
daughter Lorena, the couple
rolled into the Sanders’ front
yard. In the ensuing marriage
ceremony, they pledged vows
they have maintained for 60
years.
Between 1920 and 1937, the
Jobes lived on cotton farms in
the Mahoney, Dike and Caney
communities. The couple had
four children: Jewel Texialene,
Virginia Fay, Lewis Valton and
Ida Nell.
Following other Hopkins
County families to the bean
fields of New Mexico, the Jobe
family lived and farmed in the
Claunch community for six
years. Later as a carpenter,
Jobe found work along the
Texas coast, retiring from Dow
Chemical Company in 1959
where they lived in Qute, Texas
for several years.
Since 1968, Mr. and Mrs. Jobe
have made their borne at 217
Townsend Street in
Nacogdoches. They are
members of the Pioneer Church
of Christ. The walls erf their
home are lined with
photographs of their four
children, 12 grandchildren and
seven great grandchildren.

hosting the Diamond Wedding
Anniversary celebration are
Texialene and Oscar Robinson
of Houston, Valton and Rose
Jobe of Groves, Tx., and Nell
and J.V. Russell of New
Orleans, La.
Gaines Celebrates
79th Birthday t
Mrs. Edith Gaines of Cumby,
was honored recently with a
surprise 79th birthday lunch at
the home of her daughter and
son-in-law, Charlene and Albert
Lewis, in Clarksville. Others
hosting the fete were grand-
children Dharlene Jones and
Willard and Carolyn Brown.
Present for the day were the
following sisters and brothers:
Archie Sanders, Buster Sanders
and Arco Webb of Cumby; Susie
White of Marshall; (these are
the surviving children of Mr.
and Mrs. J.B. ‘Buck’ Sanders.)

Greenville; Mrs. Betty
Williams of Garland; Mrs. Lois
Ingram of Jefferson; Mr. and

grandchildren, Blaine Jones
and Dharla Williams and great-
great-grandchild, Dustin
Williams age six months. There
were five generations
represented at the affair.

The Hopkins County
Historical Society met in
regular session Oct. 20 at the
museum on Jackson Street.

The Alpha Tau Iota Chapter
of Beta Sigma Phi held their

A business meeting was held
first and members discussed
p.m. The door prize was
donated by Vicer’s Place and
was won by Rebecca Allison.
Guests attending the meeting

talk on landscaping were Mary

contest.
After the meeting, the can-
dlelight pledge ritual was held
for Nancy Kirkpatrick, Kay
Orr, Cathey Weaver and Sue
Underwood.
The refreshment table was
covered with a yellow cloth and
yellow roses served as the
centerpiece. Chips, dips, cake
and frosted punch were served.
The cake read “Alpha Tau Iota
to form a nominating group to Welcomes Pledges 1980.”

booth at the Fall Festival and

held and plans made for the
balance of the year. Refresh-

The Newcomers Club met
Tuesday night, Oct. 21 in the
community room of the
People’s National Bank. The
guest speaker was Mike Mit-
chell who is employed by
Landmark Properties, Inc. of
Dallas.
Mitchell discussed “How to
Landscape Your Yard.”
Following Mitchell’s presen-
tation, the members were in-
formed of the next craft
workshops that will be held.
The workshops are: Yarn
Christmas Ornaments at 7 p.m.,
Oct. 30 at the home of Lucia
Bunch. Fabric Flowers is slated
for 7 p.m., Nov. 6 at Melody
Teten’s home.

Double-ring Ceremony
Unites Couple In Plano
Gail Elaine Trowbridge and
Charles D. Sewell exchanged
wedding vows in the Plano
home of Betty Dement at 8 p.m.
Oct. 20. Church of Christ
minister, R.B. Cantrell of-
ficiated the double-ring
ceremony.
The bride is the daughter of
Mrs. Junia Trowbridge of San
Marcus. The bridegroom is the
son of Mr. and Mrs. Miller D.
Sewell of Sulphur Springs.
The bride was given in
marriage by Ray Trowbridge.
She wore a soft fabric floor
length ivory gown. The dress
featured a rounded neckline
that was created by the at-
tached cape accent. The cape
was gently gathered and
hemmed with wide lace. It fell
from bust length in front to a
longer length in back. The bride
carried a bouquet of ivory
colored rosebuds and baby’s
breath coming through a cir-
cular arrangment of Boston
fern and English ivy.
The bride was attended by
Ann Muir of Irving as maid of
honor. The best man was
Lavigne Gaskin of Sulphur
Springs.
The reception following the
wedding ceremony took place in
the home of Betty Dement.
The bride is a graduate of San
Marcos High School and at-
tended Texas A&M University.
She is employed by Sulphur
Springs Veterinary Clinic.
Sewell is a graduate of Sulphur
Springs High School. He at-
tended East Texas State
University. He works as a
dairyman in Hopkins County.
The new Mr. and Mrs.
Charles D. Sewell will make
their home in Sulphur Springs.

The group discussed the need
to raise $250 to purchase the
rape film for the use of all in the
county.
A social was held on Oct. 4 in
Mount Vernon.
Among the 250 Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and their leaders who participated in the annual White Oak
District, NetSeo Trails Council, Boy Scouts Fall Camporee was a contingent from Sulphur Springs.
Youth members spent last Friday, Saturday and Sunday, (Oct. 17 -19) taking part in competitive
events, Scout-craft skills, and field activities at the site north or Hart's Bluff, Tx. Shown here are
