July 4 nuptials set
Mr. and Mrs. B.A. Lyle announce the engagement and ap-
proaching marriage of their daughter, Karrie Diane, to Ricky
Wayne Bettes of Cooper. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Bettes are parents of
the prospective bridegroom. The couple plan an 8 p.m.
ceremony Friday, July 4 in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Buck
Booker. Friends and relatives of the couple are invited to attend.
Wedding date set
Mr. and Mrs. M.B. Laminack of Baytown announce the
engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter,
Susan Kay of Sulphur Springs, to Bobby Wayne Neal of Dike.
The prospective bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. J.C. Neal
of Dike. The couple will repeat their vows Saturday, June 21 at
7:30 p.m. in Spence Chapel at the First Baptist Church. Friends
and relatives of the couple are invited to attend.
Engagement announced
Mr. and Mrs. James H. Bundy of McKinney announce the
engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter,
Beverly Kay, to Gerry Ray Waller, son of Mrs. Marjorie Waller
and the late Raymond Waller, of Sulphur Springs. Miss Bundy is
a graduate of Denton High School and received her Bachelor of
degree from Abilene Christian University in 1077. She is
now employed by First National Bank in Dallas. The prospec-
tive bridegroom is a 1073 graduate of Sulphur Springs High
School. He will graduate from Preston Road School of
Preaching in Avgust. The wedding is planned for Saturday, June

For AAK Dinner
The “Pursuit of Happiness”
was the topic of the program
presented by Joan Garrett at
the Alpha Alpha Kappa chapter
meeting held recently in the
home of Dorothy Easley.
Chapter president Phyllis
Rogers called the regular
business meeting to order and
minutes of the previous meeting
were read and approved. The
treasury report was given by
Mary Reagh and minutes of the
recent E.C.C. meeting were
read and discussed.
A report was given on the
results of the Beta Sigma Phi’s
yellow rose project following
which members discussed the
chapter’s next meeting which is
to include the installation of
officers for 1980-81 and will be in
conjunction with the annual
“losers dinner” to be held June
17.
Refreshments were served by
Ms. Easley to Phyllis Rogers,
Wyvonne Bronson, Mary
Reagh, Joan Garrett, Phyllis
Morris, Ann Anderson, Judy
Glenn and Mary Beth Hulen.
Xi Nu lota To
Attend Concert
Xi Nu Iota members met
Tuesday night, May 13 in the
home of Jean Wood to finalize
their plans to attend the Kenny
Rogers show which is to be held
in Dallas Sunday evening. Mrs.
Rita Richardson presided over
the session.
Club members are to meet at
Mrs. Wood’s home at 4 p.m.
Sunday for the trip. Dell Poskey
presented the club program for
the evening and new offficers
were installed. New officers
are: Mary Campbell,
president; Jean Wood, vice-
president; Mary Nell Bruce,
recording secretary; Helen
Perkins, treasurer; and Linda
Kids, corresponding secretary.
Refreshments were served to
Ilene Harris, Mary Nell Bruce,
Mary Campbell, Dell Poskey,
Helen Perkins, Rita Richard-
son, Sue Glenn and hostess Jean
Wood.
The group will meet again
May 27 in the General
Telephone Office hospitality
room to celebrate the chapter’s
anniversary and reveal secret
^ sisters. A salad supper will be
served and an Exemplars ritual
will be given to girls
progressing to Xi Nu Iota.

In Double-Ring Rites
Miss Deanna Marie Hay and
James Randall Rushing ex-
changed wedding vows April 21
at 8 p.m. in the Lake Highlands
Baptist Church. Bro. James
Edge, pastor of the church,
officiated the double-ring
nuptials.
The bride is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Glenn E. Hay of
Sulphur Springs. Parents of the
bridegroom are James H.
Rushing of Arlington and
Connie Adair of Sulphur
Springs.
Given in marriage by her
father the bride wore a baby
blue dress adorned with white
lace at the sleeves. She caried a
bouquet of white satin roses.
Brenda Ledbetter of Sulphur
Springs served as maid of
honor. She chose a baby blue
dress and carried white car-
nations entwined with baby’s
breath.
Jon Nesbitt of Sulphur
Springs attended the
bridegroom as best man.
Miss Patti Baxley provided
nuptial music which included
“liie Wedding March," “The
Wedding Prayer,” “Twelfth of
Never,” and “We’ve Only Just
Begun.”
Following the ceremony a
reception hosted by Laveme
Rushing, Faye Berry and
Tonya Rushing was held in the
fellowship hall. Tonya Rushing
presided at the registry.
Following a wedding trip to
Dallas the bride will be moving
to Norfolk, Va. where the
bridegroom is stationed in the
Navy.

Skidmore as Charles Kibert of
Interiors Etc. presented the
Junior Waverly Club program.
Kibert presented a preview of
the new fabrics available and
demonstrated the latest
decorating technique in which
fabric is placed on walls.

Honored at
Bridal Party
Mrs. Max Latham and
daughter Kathryn were hosts
for a lingerie shower honoring
Miss Karen Mabe, bride-elect of
Kent Bailey. The event was held
in the Latham home Tuesday,
May 13.
Miss Mabe’s chosen colors
were carried out in the sherbet
punch which was served from a
cut-glass bowl and a cake
bearing the inscription, ’Best
Wishes Karen’. An
arrangement of pastel rainbow
colored silk flowers centered
the serving table.

Mr. and Mrs. E.H. Preuss of Taylor, formerly of Sulphur
Springs, announce the engagement of their daughter, Suellen of
Bryan, to Guy M. Smith of Arlington. The prospective
bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Smith of Mineral
Wells. The couple will wed Saturday, July 19 in the First United
Methodist Church in Taylor.

at the group’s May 8 meeting.

Mrs. Teetes’ presentation
related “that in order for a cake
to be successful, it takes all the
ingredients working together,
just as it takes all the officers
working together to make a
club successful.”

Crump, secretary; Gloria
Price, treasurer; Gail Dawson,
reporter; Mary Ann O’Neal,

secretary and Forum officer.
Betty Chapman, outgoing
president, thanked past officers
and committee chairmen for
their performances during the
year. The club returned the
honor recognizing Mrs.
Chapman for her services in the
past year.
Club members regretfully
accepted the resignation of
Mrs. Linda Johnson from the
club roll while Mrs. Lydia
Bryant was elected into
membership.
During the business portion of
the meeting the club voted to
donate money toward the
purchase of the rape film
currently being shown at the
police station. Further money
was earmarked for the summer
recreation program being
sponsored by the Council on
Drugs and Alcoholism.
A special presentation of
handmade heart-shaped pillows 1
was made by Mrs. Gail Dawson
to all of the float committee
members. Mrs. Dawson stated
that the dairy industry wished
to show their appreciation for
all the work putinon the floats.

was served following the

participate the the Fun and
Frolic program to be held May
17 in the Civic Center. North
Hopkins EH representative for
the senior citizens program will
be Zuma Collins.
A donation of 310 to the
Beckham 4-H was announced.
The money was given to aid the
Beckham group in organizing
their club.

wed Saturday, May 24 at 3 p.m. in Trinity Baptist Church.

Sulphur Springs Area Council
PTA were sponsors for a school
of information for incoming
officers of the council and local
PTA units Wednesday morning,
May 14 in the board room of the
school administration building.
The school was taught by
Mrs. Dorothy Mitchell,
Regional Vice-President from
Tyler. Mrs. Mitchell presented
a history of the PTA, services
that could be expected from the
state ofices and important
meetings delegates should at-
tend. The group then proceeded
through the duties of each in-
dividual office and defined its
responsibilities.
A question and answer
session followed Mrs. Mitchell’s
presentation.

Party honors Nellie Bell
Mrs. Nellie Bell was honored with a going away party Friday
evening May 9 in the Dike Community Center. Mrs. Bell will be
leaving Hopkins County in June to take up residence In Oakdale,
Cal. Some sixty friends from the Sulphur Springs, Dike and
Mahoney area attended the party. The honoree was presented
with a money tree and a plaque.
