Mr. and Mrs. Bert Clark of Sulphur Springs announce the
marriage of their son, Johnny L. Culpepper to Darla Kay Gast,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E.V. Wilks, formerly of Sulphur
Springs. The couple were married at 2:30 p.m. Aug. 23 at Lanes
Chapel in Tyler. They will make their home in Tyler, where the
groom is employed as a painter for Howell Baker. The bride, a
1901 graduate of Sulphur Springs High School, plans to attend
Tyler Junior College.

Beckham 4-H
The Beckham 4-H Club met
for its first meeting of the new
year and elected new officers
on Tuesday, Sept 1 at the Tira
Community Center.
New officers include Lisa
Spencer, president; Kevin
Dickens, vice president;
Radonna Wright, secretary;
Jeff Weston, treasurer; Kevin
Spencer and Kristi Bran-
denburg, reporters; Jeff
Weston, council delegate.
Plans were made for a
hamburger supper on Satur-
day, Sept. 5 on the Beckham
Church grounds.
The group also discussed
having a concession stand at
the Fall Festival which will be
open Friday and Saturday.
Members voted to have its
monthly meeting on the first
Monday night of each month.
All members plan to have
projects to show in the Fall
Festival 4-H Project Show.
Some will also participate by
showing their animals in the
various events.

The Mother’s Culture Club

Teachers
The Sulphur Springs Area of
Retired Teachers Association
held its first meeting of the
year on Tuesday, Sept. 8 in the
Wesley United Methodist
Church recreation hall.
This organization is
dedicated to the purpose of
promoting the welfare of its
members and aiding civic and
educational advancement in
this area.
The business session, con-
ducted by President Ruth Long,
involved relevant subjects of
local, state and national im-
portance.
Following the business
meeting, Mary Estes, chair-
man of the program com-
mittee, introduced Dr. and
Mrs. D.J. Nabors, who
presented the program entitled
“The Golden Oldies.”
Nabors, a college drama
professor, brillantly stirred the
memories and mirth of the
audience with his rendering of
classic readings including
"Casey at the Bat” and ex-
cerpts from the inettable wit of
Will Rogers.
Mrs. Nabors, an ac-
complished pianist and retired
college music teacher, cap-
tured the minds and hearts of
her listeners with a repetoire of
beautiful and loved music
through die years.
Dr. and Mrs. Nabors showed
great expertise in their
respective arts.
The meeting closed with a
social hour and refreshments
provided by the social com-
mittee of the club.

Unite In Ceremony
Donna Kluttz and Gary
Caldwell were united in
marriage at 7 p.m. Friday,
Sept. 11 in the Highland
Terrace Baptist Church,
Brother Robert Baldridge
performed the double-ring
service.
The bride is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Kluttz of
Greenville. The bridegroom is
the son of Mr. and Mrs. William
Caldwell, also of Greenville.
Given in marriage by her
father, the bride wore a lovely
gown of soft chiffon. The Queen
Anne neckline was covered in
emported venise lace. The
shadow sleeves had a soft
chiffon overlay and the sleeves
were accented with venise
medallion which matched the
lace on the deep cuffs. The
empire waisted gown flowed
into a lovely chapel train. The
back of the bridal gown and
cuffs were accented with
beautiful covered buttons. The
Juliet cap was covered in
venise lace with a walking
length veil.
The bride carried a bouquet
of dainty white rosebuds and
blue and white carnations
accented with blue tiger lilies
and stephenotis scattered with
white forget-me-nots.
Karen Roland served as the
maid of honor. Bridesmaids
were Dianne Kluttz, cousin of
the bride and Janet Kluttz,
sister of the bride.
Stacey Kluttz, sister of the
bride, was the flower girl.
Bart Calahan attended as the
best man. Groomsmen were
Larry Caldwell, brother of the
groom and Duane May.
Ushers include James
Prince, Larry James and
Bennie Weathers.
Mrs. Kennith Kluttz, aunt of
the bride, provided the music
for the formal ceremony. Mrs.
Barbara Hickman and Bruce
Cokeroft were the soloists.
A reception followed the

Caldwell, sister-in-law of the
groom, Janet Murley, Sharon
Jones, cousin of the bride, Gala

Melanie Caldwell, sister of the

The bride is a 1979 graduate
of Greenville High School and is
employed by American
National Insurance Co. in
Greenville. The groom is a 1977
graduate of Greenville High
School and received a BA in
personnel management from
East Texas State University.
He was a member of American
Society for Personnel Ad-
ministration. He is currently
employed at Roper, Harris and
Dunn in Greenville.

the rehearsal dinner held at the
Sulphur Springs Country Club

Information concerning the
event was passed out to all

The theme of the program
given by Edwina Jones was
"Woman, Her Heritage and
Her Hope." She said that
women of today have a better
life than they did in the 1800’s.
FoUowing the closing ritual,
the meeting was adjourned and
refreshments were served by
the hostess. Cheese, assorted
crackers, chocolate cake and
punch were enjoyed by all.

Mrs. Bob Preas of Cooper

Guest speaker for the
program was Ruth Parish, who
spoke on “Crafts." Mrs. Parish
exhibited several needlepoint
pictures and demonstrated all
different kinds of needlepoint
stitches. Other crafts enjoyed
included crochetting, lat-
chhook, stitchery and covering
coat hangers.
Secret pals were chosen and
dues collected. Deborah
Dunham was awarded the door
prize.
After the meeting was ad-
journed, refreshments were
served.

sophomore and junior member of the choir and serves as the
current vice president. She was president of FHA Chapter I and
vice president of public relations Chapter II. She is also active in
the bus ministry for the First Baptist Church.
