The Cumby Chapter of Future
Homemakers of America met
Sept. 22 at 7 p.m. in the
Homemaking Department to
induct new members.
Donna Gaines presented the
devotional. A salad supper was
enjoyed by approxmimately 50
members and guests.
Officers for the new year are

Area Couple Wed
Dike 4-h jn forma/ Service
The Dike 4-H Club met
Wednesday, Sept. 23 with Bo
Potts presiding.
Abe Palacios led the club in
the Pledge of Allegiance. The
motto and pledge were led by
Marci McKenzie. The in-
spirations was given by Tammy
Neal, who also read the minutes
and roll call.
Seven new members were
recognized: Stephanie Dawdy,
Angela and Andrea Posey,
Donna Geary, Bobbie Geary,
J.J. Geary and Susan Geary.
Yearbooks were distributed
to the members. Those mem-
bers who participated in the 4-H
project show at the Fall
Festival told the group what
each had entered and what they
had won. Participating were
Amy Deaton, Tammy Neal,
Shawn Nowlin, Katie Joslin,
Lesa White, Lori Potts, Kelly
Joslin, Lisa Argenbright, Marci
McKenzie, Ronny Joslin, Louis
Maberry, Brian Argenbright,
Marty McKenzie, Brad
Argenbright, Bo Potts, Treavor
Allan and Susan Allan.
Members were reminded that
the Hopkins County Food Show
would be Nov. 29 and were
urged to sign up for the
nutrition classes to be given.
Lori Potts was presented a
gift from County Extension
Agent, Mrs. Lou Ivey Johnson,
for her help with the Bread Fair
held earlier this summer.
Refreshments were served by
Abe and Chuck Palacios, and
Amy Brandenburgh.
The Dike 4-H Awards
Banquet was held Saturday
night, Sept. 26 at the Dike
Community Center. A covered
dish supper was served to a
large crowd.
Mistress and Master of
Ceremonies was Liz Godfrey
and Brian Argenbright. The
invocation was given by Brad
Argenbright and the Pledge of
Allegiance was given by Katie
Joslin. The 4-H pledge and
motto was led by Amy Deaton.
Introduction of guests was by
Marty McKenzie.
Slides of the members,
depicting activities of the past
year, was shown and narrated
by Tammy Neal and Lesa
White. Club adult leader, Mrs.
Patsy Neal, presented a trophy
to each member who had
completed and turned in a 4-H
project record book.
Awards were presented to
Katie Joslin, Brian, Brad and
Lisa Argenbright, Tammy,
Randy and Debra Neal, Amy
and Melinda Deaton, Kelly and
Ronny Joslin, Billy Cummings,
Alisha and Shirilda Medina,
Shawn Nowlin, Chuck and Abe
Placio, Amy Brandenburgh,
Lori and Bo Potts, Trevor and
Susan Allan, Pam Waters, J.J.
Price, Marty and Marci
McKinzie, Louis Maberry, Lesa
White and Liz Godfrey.
Leaders, parents and County
Extension Agents were
recognized and welcomed by
Lori Potts.
Each member had a display
of their projects, crafts,
awards, ribbons and trophies.
The benediction was given by
Louis Maberry.

marriage at 7 p.m. Saturday,
Oct. 3 in the Wesley United
Methodist Church in Sulphur
Springs. John Hawkins, pastor,
performed the double-ring
ceremony.
The bride is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Tyrone L. Hill Sr.
of Greenville. The bridegroom
is the son of Mr. and Mrs. H.D.
Stewart of Cumby.
Given in marriage by her
father, the bride wore a gown
with a chapel length train and
Queen Anne neckline. The gown
was made of whitel bridal satin
with a lace overlay. It was
accented with hand appliqued
lace along with small white
pearl beads. The bridal veil also
was chapel length and
highlighted with scallop lace
outlined with small white pearl
beads. She carried a bouquet of
white mini carnations and white
carnations.
Susan E. Dooley of Lone Oak
attended as the maid of honor.
Bridesmaids were Brenda K.
Hill of Greenville, Linda G.
Hogue of Lone Oak, Robyn
Willis of Sulphur Springs and
Terri Scott of Greenville.
The attendants wore formal
length gowns with a Queen
Anne neckline. The dresses
were made of a baby blue crepe
with printed chiffon. They
carried blue carnations and
white daisies with blue
streamers.
Miss Trenette Griggs of
Sulphur Springs was the flower
girl.
Jearred Stewart of Sulphur
Springs was the ring bearer.
Richard Stewart of Irving
served as the best man.
Groomsmen were James
Stewart of Sulphur Springs,
Daren Petty of Miller Grove,
Jimmy Beck of Sulphur Springs
and Roy Lackey of Boumont.
Ushers were Bob Williamson
of Sulphur Springs and Bryan
Roberts of Irving.
Music for the formal
ceremony was presented by
Mrs. Wayne Caldwell, pianist,
Mrs. David Brewer, organist
and Frank Anderson, soloist.
Following the ceremony a
reception was held in the
fellowship hall. Members of the
houseparty were Sheri Hill,
Christian Brewer, Teresa
Williams, Kim Copeland, Jane
Stewart and Anita Jacob
presided at the registry.
After a wedding trip to
Texarkana, the couple will
reside in Sulphur Springs.
The bride is a 1978 graduate of
Lone Oak High School and
attended ETSU. She is
currently employed at H.D.
Lee. The bridegroom is a 1978
graduate of Sulphur Springs
High School and a 1980 gradf ate
of Paris Junior College. He is
presently employed at Rock-
well International.

The Law Enforcement Wives
and Associates met at 7:30 p.m.
Sept. 14 in the State Bank
“ community room with 13
members and two new mem-
bers present.
Nita Scarborough and Robbie
Newsom were welcomed as
newcomers.
After President Glenda
Mitchell called the meeting to
order and the minutes from the
previous meeting were read,
Alice Riddle introduced Mrs.
Ruth Gann who presented a
program on “Good Nutrition for
People in Stressful Positions.”
Members were informed on
the progress being made in
drawing up the club charter and
numerous other items of
business were taken care of.
Following the meeting,
refreshments were served by
Pat Smith and Brenda Counts.
Club members met again
Sept. 19 for the Hopkins County
Fall Festival stew contest.
There was a good turn out of
members and their families.
Everyone joined in to prepare
the stew. Even though the club
didn’t win a prize, everyone
enjoyed a good time. Members
extend a special thanks to Alton
Mitchell, who sponsored the
effort and Sammy Weaver, who
along with Mitchell came out
and offered assistance in the
preparations.
The next meeting of the club
wll be at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct.
5 in the State Bank community
room.
Xi Nu lota
Xi Nu Iota Chapter of Beta
Sigma Phi met Sept. 22 in the
home of Mary Reagh with
President Ilene Harris
presiding.
The minutes of the previous
meeting were read and ap-
proved. The treasurer’s report
was also given. •
The social committee an-
nounced a party will be held
Oct. 10 and the time and place
will be announced later.
The service committee stated
that the Christmas Auction will
be at 7 p.m. Dec. 1 at the First
National Bank. The proceeds
will go to the Senior Citizens
Center to be used for fur-
nishings.
The club president read a
letter from the ECC president
wanting ideas for coming
projects.
Edwina Jones was elected for
the club’s Valentine queen.
The program was given by
Jean Wood on “What Women
Are Heir To.” Quotes from
famous people were read and
discussed.
Following the business
meeting, refreshments of salad
ring with shrimp, avocado dip
and chips were served.

approaching marriage of their daughter, Sue Lynn Duke to
Larry Thomas Cox, son of Mr. and Mrs. Whayne Cox of Dike.
The couple plan to be married at S p.m. Friday, Oct. 30 in the
Independence Baptist Church.

united in marriage at 7 p.m.
Saturday, June 27 in Union
Baptist Church. The Rev. Bill
Gaddis performed the double-
ring ceremony.
The bride is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Donald Reppond
of Yantis. The bridegroom is
the son of Mr. and Mrs. Russell
Alexander of Snow, Okla.
Given in marriage by her
father, the bride wore a wed-
ding gown overlayed in lace
accented with a matching veil.
Barbara Williams of Sulphur
Springs attended as the matron
of honor. Denetia Williams of
Sulphur Springs was the
bridesmaid.
Dennis Williams of Sulphur
Springs served as the best man.
Scotty Reppond of Yantis was
the groomsman.
Ushers were Steve Ar-
mendariz of Houston and Emil
Armendariz of Queen City.
Music for the ceremony was
presented by Tammy McGary.
A reception was held in the
fellowship hall following the
service. Edith Hooker presided
at the registry. Hosts were
l^Donna Hooker and IJnda
Reppond.
The couple reside in Sulphur
Springs.
The bride is a graduate of
Sulphur Springs High School.
The annual Hooten reunion
was held during the Labor Day
weekend at the North Hopkins
School cafeteria.
Hostesses for the day were
Mrs. Robert Estes and Mrs.
Emma Lee Normand.
Mrs. Vera Hooten, wife of the
late Jesse Hooten, and two
neices were among the first to
arrive. Mrs. Dowlin Dickey, the
former Lucy Hooten,
registered relatives and guests.
During the morning
fellowship, Mrs. Estes an-
nounced the birth of Amanda
Leigh Normand, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. David Normand
of Russellville, Ark. Grand-
mother of the new infant is Mrs.
Emma Normand. Mrs. Nor-
mand announced the
graduation of Dianna Normand
of Arkansas Tech University
with a B.S. in geology, the
completion of Clara Ruth
Burford’s Ph.D. from Texas
Tech University and the
wedding of Paul Lawrence
Burford to Carolyn Howard of
Weatherford.
Mrs. Normand and Mrs.
Burford are the daughters of
the late Roy Lee Hooten.
The prayer before the noon
meal was led by Dowlin
Dickey.
In the afternoon, the ^‘family
tree” was discussed and plans
were to make copies of it as it
stands now.
These family names were
recognized and noted that most
of them still live in Hopkins

Vaden, Robertson, Strawther,
Sewell, Ross, Weir, Tolson,
Hill, Dickey, Beadles, Burford,
Normand, Estes, Head,

Toon, Sweat, Davis, Hindman,
Irvin, Woods, Glosup, Phillips
and Williams.

It was announced at the
family gathering that Herman
B. Hooten was improving in his
Houston home, but his wife,
Eya, was still bedfast. Bertie
Tolson has returned to south
Texas after an extended visit
this summer. Ury Sweat was
recuperating in the Dallas
area.
These children of Jimmy
Augusta Hooten and Alice
Robertson Hooten will gather
again for a reunion next year.

Professional Women’s Club met
Tuesday, Sept. 22 for its
monthly dinner meeting in the
Woman’s Building with 18
members present.
The tables were decorated
with flowers and Merle Norman
cosmetic gift sets.
Chairperson Lorece James
introduced Donna Wetzel who
presented a program on
cosmetics. Louise Morgan was
given a facial during the
program. It was an interesting
and informative program.
Members were allowed to ask
question and makeup tips
following the speaker.
President Juanita Dixon
conducted a business session
and then the meeting was ad-
journed.
