Couple Repeat .Vows
In Formal Ceremony
Kim Lynette Whitworth and
Sammy G. Weaver repeated
wedding vows Saturday, May
17 at 4 p.m. in the First United
Methodist Church. The Rev.
Gaither Day read the vows for
the double-ring ceremony.
The bride is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Joe W. Whitworth
of Sulphur Springs. Mr. and
Mrs. Sammy D. Weaver of
Sulphur Springs are parents of
the bridegroom.
Given in marriage by her
father the bride chose a formal
white gown of organza. The
dress was accented with silk
Venice lace and embellished
with pearls. The bodice
featured a high neckline, sheer
yoke and bishop sleeves. A wide
ruffle edged the full skirt which
swept to a cathedral train. A
waltz length veil bordered with
lace complemented the gown.
She carried a colonial nosegay
of white daisies and baby’s
breath caught with lace
streamers.
The ceremony took place
before an altar centered with
an arrangement of white
daisies and carnations, can-
delabras, wedding ferns and
daisies formed the backdrop.
The chancel rail was encircled
with greenery and votive
candles.
Mrs. Steve Whitworth, sister-
in-law of the bride from
Kearney, Neb., served as
matron of honor. Bridesmaids
were Mrs. Jimmy Bailey, Mrs.
Charles Keen and Mrs. Frank
Pope of Sulphur Springs and
Miss Connie Milbum of
Seagoville.
The matron of honor wore a
mint green gown of Mandell
sheer delight over satin and
was styled with spaghetti
straps and a scoop neckline
created by gathers. Her
matching waist-length cape
featured lettuce edging and a
vented back opening.
Bridesmaids wore gowns
featuring a high waistline with
spaghetti straps and the
scooped neckline gathered into
a binding of mint green. Ac-
centing the dress was a waist-
length cape of Mandell sheer
delight featuring a button back
vent.
The bride’s attendants
carried natural bouquets of
daisies and baby’s breath with
touches of greenery and ribbon.
Each attendant and the flower
girl wore a daisy in her hair.
Miss Deidre Daniel of
Sulphur Springs served as
flower girl and Paul Whitworth,
nephew of the bride from
Kearney, Neb., was ring
bearer.
Terry Burns of Talco at-
tended the bridegroom as best
man. Groomsmen were Jimmy
Aiken, Biff Chapman, Tim
Potts and Ricky Roberts, all of
Sulphur Springs. Ushers were
Steve Whitworth, brother of the
bride from Kearney, Neb. and
Bert Whorton of Sulphur
Springs.
A program of nuptial music
was presented byMrs.Burford
Scott, organist, and Mrs. David
Carr of Coppell. They per-
formed “The Wedding Song,”
“You Light Up My Life,” and
“We’ve Only Just Begun.”
Following the ceremony the
bride’s parents were hosts for a
reception in the fellowship hall
of the church. Houseparty
members were Miss Linda Ley
of Conroe, Elsianne Graves of
Dallas, Mrs. Biff Chapman,
Mrs. Don Daniel and Miss Lisa
Greb, all of Sulphur Springs.
Mrs. David Hedgpeth, sister
of the bridegroom from Hurst,
registered the guests.
The reception table featured
arrangements of white daisies,
baby’s breath and miniature
carnations. The bridegroom’s
table held a candelabra
arrangement and brass ap-
pointments. The bride’s cake
was white with daisy
decorations.
Following a short wedding
trip the couple will make their
home in Sulphur Springs.
The bride is a graduate of
Sulphur Springs High and a
1980 graduate of East Texas
State University where she is a
member of Alpha Tau Iota
chapter of Beta Sigma Phi. She
is employed by Burgin and
Johnson CPA firm. The
bridegroom is a graduate of
Sulphur Bluff School and is a
senior student at ETSU. He is
employed by the Sulphur
Springs Police Department.
June nuptials planned
Mr. and Mrs. Jamas E. Bradley of Como announce the
engagement of their daughter, Sheri Diane, to Michael Allen
Newman of Sulphur Springs. Parents of the prospective
bridegroom are Mr. and Mrs. Ernest S. Newman of Yantis. The
couple will exchange vows Friday, June 27 at 7:30 p.m. in the
First Assembly of God Church in Sulphur Springs. Friends and
relatives of the couple are invited to attend.

Springs, was hostess for a party
Saturday, May 17 to celebrate
her 16th birthday.
The setting for the party was
the Rockwall Rotary Hall
which was colorfully decorated
with crepe paper streamers,
balloons and amusing signs.
Guests enjoyed games and
dancing. Refreshments of
chips, dips, cake and soft
drinks were served.
The original guest list in-
cluded the late Kim Dickens of
Brashear. Others invited were

In Double-Ring'Rites
Miss Myra Margaret Pilcher
and David Kynn Watson
pledged their vows Sunday,
May 18 in a 4 p.m. ceremony in
the First United Methodist
Church. The Rev. Gaither Day,
pastor of the church, read the
vows for the double-ring
nuptials.
The bride is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Joe Pilcher of
Sulphur Springs. Parents of the
bridegroom are Mr. and Mrs.
Gene Watson, also of Sulphur
Springs.
Massive arrangements of
ferns and spiral candelabras
adorned the altar which
featured an arrangement of
white stock carnations and
gypsophelia. The prayer bench
formed the backdrop for the
ceremony.
Given in marriage by her
father the bride wore a white
Quiana gown with molded
bodice of re-embroidered
French Alencon lace with lace
tapers over the hipline. The
Queen Anne neckline was
outlined with delicate lace
scallops jewelled with tiny seed
pearls. Her long fitted sleeves
of lace featured Quiana insets
and were fastened at the wrists
with a row of tiny buttons. The
A-line skirt from the waist
flared full into a circular chapel
length train. The complete
hemline was edged in re-
embroidered French Alencon
lace with a cut-out effect. Her
mantilla of illusion was edged
with re-embroidered French
Alencon lace. She carried a
bouquet of gardenias and peach
blossoms in classic cascade
design.
Miss Mary Pilcher, sister of
the bride, served as maid of
honor. Bridesmaids were Miss
Gena Watson, sister of the
bridegroom, Miss Robin Nix,
Miss Sharon Lowe, Miss
Martha Penn, Miss Maleta Fox
and Mrs. Sandy Bronson, all of
Sulphur Springs.
The bridal attendants wore
gowns of Seafoam green chiffon
with blouson bodices and a
peplum effect at the waistline.
They carried natural bouquets
of dogwood and fern accented
with lace and satin streamers.
Mark Rorie of Tyler attended
his nephew as best man.
Groomsmen were David
Bradley, Kenny Fox and Randy
Blackmon of Sulphur Springs,
Lonnie Fox and Kirk Walker of
Nacogdoches and Ralph Preuss

a program of nuptial music.

following the ceremony in the
parlor of the church.

and yellow and white daisies
were used in the patio area to
create a garden setting.
Following a wedding trip to
Arkansas the couple are
making their home at 103
Graham in Sulphur Springs.
The bride attended Texas
Tech and is currently attending
East Texas State University.
She is employed at Lou Nell
Fashions. The bridegroom is
employed with Gene Watson
Co.

Linda Waller
Miss Linda Waller, bride-
elect of Tony Bible, was
honored with a .miscellaneous
bridal shower Tuesday, May 20
in the home of Miss Julie
Hager.
Miss Waller’s chosen colors
of yellow and white were
carried out ih the serving table
decorations with yellow frosted
punch, yellow mints and yellow
and white cookies being served
from the table covered with a
white linen cloth and centered
with an arrangement of fresh
flowers and daisies. The
hostess presented the honoree
with a corsage.

Waller with an array of gifts.

On 61st Date
Mr. and Mrs. W.M. Groves of
Sulphur Springs were honored
by their children Saturday,
May 17 on the occasion of their
61st wedding anniversary. The
event was held at the home of
their daughter and son-in-law,
the Rev. and Mrs. Archie Stone.
Mr. and Mrs. Groves were
married at the Hopkins County
Courthouse May 17, 1919.
Attending the dinner
celebration were their children,
grandchildren and great-
grandchildren. Those present
were Mr. and Mrs. Ja'mes
Groves of Cleveland, Ark.; the
Rev. and Mrs. Archie Stone of
Sulphur Springs; Mr. and Mrs.

Miss Ala Kay Loyd and
Michael Scott Scroggins of
Shreveport, La. exchanged
wedding vows Friday, May 2 at
8 p.m. in the Lake Highlands
Baptist Church. Bro. James
Edge, pastor of the church,
officiated the double-ring
ceremony.
The bride is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. DeWitt Loyd of
Sulphur Springs. Parents of the
bridegroom are Mr. and Mrs.
Arlon D. Scroggins of Tyler.
The ceremony took place
before a cathedral arch of
candles flanked by spiral
candelabras with wedding
ferns forming the backdrop for
the nuptials. Palms completed
the candlelight setting.
Given in marriage by her
father the bride selected a
formal gown of Ivory English
net over silk taffeta. The
molded bodice featured a sheer
crescent yoke encased with a
wide Brussels lace ruffle ap-
pearing to the empire waist in
front and back and accented
with sculptured pearls and
Alencon lace motifs. This look
scored the lace covered Vic-
torian neckline. Long sheer full
blown Bishop sleeves fell to a
wide wrist cuff of English net
with insets of Brussels lace.
Brussels lace motifs
snowflaked the front of the A-
line skirt forming pyramids of
lace at slipper level. Lace and
crystal pleated ruffles formed
the tiered peacock train.
Complimenting the gown was a
carriage hat overlayed in
Alencon lace motifs with a wide
bow of illusion to the back
falling to the train. She carried
a cascade design of gardenias,
stephanotis and gypsophelia
entwined with candlelight
ribbon and lace trim.
Miss Gina Deaton of Waco
served the bride as maid of
honor. Bridesmaids were Miss
Karen Roberts of Sulphur
Springs, Miss Margaret
Bauman of Houston, Miss Kim
Caruthers of San Angelo and
Miss Deborah Turner of
Arlington.
The bride’s attendants wore
formal length dresses of blue
silesta. The sleeveless bodice
was overlayed with a gathered
blouson top and featured ah
over shoulder scoop neckline
with tie bows. The full crystal
pleated skirt fell to slipper level
and was accented with a tie belt
at the waistline. They carried
natural bouquets of daisies and
gypsophelia caught with ribbon
and lace trim. The matron of
honor’s bouquet featured soft
blue carnations, white daisies
and gypsophelia interspersed
with greenery and lace trim.
Flower girl was Michelle
Loyd, niece of the bride. Ring
bearer was Jeremy Neal of
Sulphur Springs.
Ricky Koon of Shreveport,
La. attended the bridegroom as
best man. Groomsmen were

NH Kindergarten To Approve Purchases For Chapter Years
Parents Meet Designated County Sites
The North Hopkins School
PTA held a meeting for parents
of kindergarten children for
the 1960-81 school term Thur-
sday, May 15 in the
homemaking room.
Members of the PTA and
parents of the children were
served refreshments of cake,
punch and coffee.
Plans for the upcoming year
were discussed along with a
program on the PTA.
Those attending were:
Maurine Evans, Wanda
Crowson, Joyce Goldsmith,
Mary Denny, Debbie Williams,
Sheila McCormack, Sandra
Pool, Sandra Vaughn, Jan
Vaughn, Debra Evans, Nancy

Members of the Hopkins
County Historical Society met
May 19 at the museum to ap-
prove the purchase of round
medallions and interpretive
plates to be placed on two
historic homes in the city.
Another vote approved the
purchase of a plaque to be
placed inside the Hopkins
County Courthouse to provide
recognition of the building on
the National Register of
Historic Places.
The society announced that if
has applications for the Family
Land Heritage Program
sponsored by the Texas
Department of Agriculture.
This program is designed to
honor those families who have
owned and continuously
operated a farm or ranch for
100 years or more. Anyone
desiring an application should
call Jeff Campbell, Bill Tuck or
Judge Joe Pogue. The deadline
is August 15, 1980.

charms for perfect attendance.
In recognition of Alpha Delta
Kappa’s 12th birthday mem-
bers prepared and served a
buffet salad supper.
June wedding slated
Mr. and Mrs. Al Heath of Irving announce the engagement and
approaching marriage of their daughter, Sharron Lee Cannon,
to Randy Giles of Irving. The prospective bridegroom is the son
of Mr. and Mrs. Travis Giles of Sulphur Springs. The couple will
exchange their vows in the home of the bridegroom's parents,
219 Radio Road, at 3 p.m. Tuesday, June 10. A reception will
follow the ceremony. The bridegroom is a 1972 graduate of
Sulphur Springs High and a 1977 graduate of the University of
Texas School of Pharmacy. He is employed at Eckerd's Drug ig
Irving. Miss Cannon is a graduate of Nimitz High School in Ir-
ving.
