Comherge Debt and Resources of Texas
Hunt's Magazine for March contains an article under the
'above head containing the following statements The
estimate of the public debt has probably been derived from
some document publiseed four or five years ago. Since
that lime more than a million of dollars of the Treasury
Notes and other liabilities have been redeemed and burnt
by o:der of Government :

This is supposed to be very near the actual amount of
the liabilities of Texas General Hamilton a few years
since visited Europe for the purpose of obtaining a loan
on pleaVe of Texas land but was unsuccessful. According
to a Congressional report of 1839 the quantity of Govern-
ment land was as follows: Acres.

The imports of cotton into the United Stales from Texas
in 1845 was 7.593107 pounds. The exports lo Texas in
the same year' were 8142753. Our exports of 1839 to
Texas amounted lo 81.637032 consisting mostly of cloth-
ing furniture lumber and dry goods. Accoiding to the
annual report of the Texas Treasury Department for the
year ending Jul v 31st 1844 130 vessels wcje entered
from foreign ports or with corgoes subject to duty. The
amount of merchandize imported was 868650603 pro
ducing a net revenue to tne government oiow ooi oo.

ed to K K Kooniz by the board of land commissioners of
Fort Bend county dated June 7 1838. This is to give notice
