THE CONNEL MAGICAL PAIN EXTRACTOR.
Wc take the liberty of presenting to the people the following
list of gentlemen of the highest respectability and standing in socie-
ty who have witnessed personally the wonderful efiectsof Connel's
-Magical Pain Extractor and in all sincerity and candor earnestly
solicit them to use it in their families or see it applied to some of
their suffering neighbors; and if they are then convinced as they as-
suredly will be if they use it or see it used of its extraordinary ef-
fects and entireinnocency in any case we ask of them to speak of
it should duty and feelings of humanity prompt them to do so.
We assure tlmm solemnly that sympathy for human suffering in-
duces at least in part our earnest solicitations that a simple'trial
should he made in any affection named below. We think it not im-
pudent or too much to say that nothing like it or in any degree so
effectual has ever been discovered in medicine externally.
They will please observe it is no "sovereign remedy for all com-
plaints" but only intended for external applications iir.hc following:

TEXAS NATIONAL REGISTER.
EARLY in December next the undersigned will. commence the
publication ot a weekly newspaper at the town of Washington
to be called the Texas National Registeh.
The interests of the publishers are directly involved in thegenerai
prosperity of the country ; and as such they will labor in their ap-
propriate sphere and in a becoming manner to disseminate uselui
intelligence encourage public virtueand sustain faithful government.
They have no cause to advance wnich is not common to every good
citizen ; and the course they have prescribed to themselves will they
confidently believe he approved by every patriot in the several quar-
ters of the Republic. They rest their claims to public patronam
solely upon the manner and spirit in which they shall dischargu!
their duties as conductors of a public journal. i
In the editorial department politics will not be regarded as the
science of partizan iu"ilerv by which the temporary success of a
faction may be secured or the personal advantage of the aspirant pro
motea; out rather as acoae ot principles which ought to De obser-
ved for the preservation of our free institutions and the maintenance
of a firm efficient and benificent government.
The undersigned begin their career wholly untrammelled. All!
public measures acts and proceedings whether cvecutive or legisla
live under the present or succeedidg administration wilt be careful-
ly examined dispassionately discussed and if approved freely com
mended : if the contrary they will be as fearlessly condemned.
As the judiciary in its importance and dignity is in no wise inferi-
or to either of the other divisions of the government its upright and
independent action will be especially sustained.
The undersigned have no animos.ties to gratifj . They therefore
unreservedly pledge litems. Ives that their columns shall not be dis-
graced bv any indulgence in that personal abuse and embittered vi-
tuperation which have so unfortunately characterized a portion of
the public press. They desire to make iheir sheet a national paper
not only reputable to themselves as men and membets of society
but creditable to the country
The form and size adopted together iwith its permanent location
at the seat of government will render the Register a convenient re
poditory of valuable matter which may be readily preserved a nH
filed or bound for future reference. It is intended to accomoanv
each -olume with a title page and index. :
An abundant supply of paper and othermaterials has been Drovi

casional suspensions.

MATAGORDA ACADEMY; - --
The Rev. C. S.- IVES and Lady would respectfully inform the
citizens of this place and its vicinity that they are now prepared to
receive pupils of both sexesinto theirinstitution and to instruct them
in all ihe branches of a substantial and finished education.
From the delightful location and health of Matagorda; from the
comiortsand convenience of a well-built town ; from a strong desire
of the people to establish and maintain a high tone of moral feeling
in ihe community ; from the laudable observance of the Lord's day
and regular attendance of the cjtizens on Divine Service which is
now held uninterruptedly on every Sunday ; and from there being a .
regular Sunday School in town this cannot but be a very desirable
place for an institution for the education of the young. '
Mr. Ives is a graduate of one of the first colleges in the United '
States; and Mrs. Ives was educated m thebesl schools for young
ladies in New England ; besides which they have both for many
years past been engaged either as Principals or Assistants In the firat
literary institutions in the United States. For their qualifications
success and reputation in teaching they leave thefollo wing testimo-
nials to speak.
TESTIMONIALS.
"I have been Icng acquainted with the Rev. Mr. Ives and. know
him to be an excellent classical and English scholar. Mrs. lvea
taught a female seminary for several years in the city of Hartford
Connecticut with distinguished reputation. 1 have full confidence -in
the qualifications of Mr and Mrs Ives to conduct a seminary bt
the highest order in such a manner as to afford g.neral satisfaction

I have been acquainted with the Rev. Caleb S. Ives for many
years past and during the last two years have been associated with
him as an officer of this institution. I have found him excellently
fitted in all respects to be an instructor of youth. His industry de-
cision and patient good temper qualify him in a high degree asa
governor o: the young while his accurate scholarship and untiring
zeal render him equally successful as a teacher. In committing their'
children to the instruction of Mr. Ives parents may feel the most
assurance that they are placing them under the care of one who is
perfectly competent to all he undertakes and who will look withthe
most scrupulous care to the fulfilment of every trust committed to
him.
