THE CONNEL MAGICAL PAIN EXTRACTOR.
We take the liberty of presenting to the people the following
list of gentlemen of ihe highest respectability and standing in socie-
ty who have witnessed personally the wonderful efl'ectsof Connel's
Magical Pain Extractor and in all sincerity and candor earnestly
solicit them to use ltm their families or see it applied to some of
their suffering neighbors; and if they are then convinced as they as-
suredly will be if they use it or see it used of its extraordinary ef-
fects and entire iniiocencym any case we ask of them to speak of
it should duty and feelings of human ty prompt themtodo so
We assure them solemnly that symjnthy for human suffering in-
duces at least m part our earnest solicitations that a simple trial
should lie made in any affection named b"I w. We think it not im-
pudent or" too much to say that nothing like it or in any degree so
effpclual has ever been discovered in medicine externally.
They will please observe it is no "sovereign remedy for all com-
plaints" but only intended for external apphcationb m -he following:
burns scald" frosted parts chilblains chafe char." tettf-r pimple.

Though we have named numerous affections experience has
taught us that they are not too n.any. It will be necessary to know
.hnT tin nrticle is thconlvone we can rccomnund ; but mustcju-
tion aainst some imitations that we have reaton to belieyc are of no
use but injurious. We will present it to the poor who have actual
need of it. Wcmay add the names of but a few gentlemen of the
thousands who have tested its virtues or itnessed us effects.

In politics the News will be independent pledged to none-
open to all; reserving to itself the right to ptaise or censure ine
measures of those who are in power or th pretentions of ihosc
who may aspire to it jusl as they may be considered calcula
ed to result in the good orvil of the country.
In relation lo the measures of the present adminiMralion u
is contended that they have not been the best that could have"
been adopted for the in'erest and welfare of the country and
that those in powei have either through ignorance or willful-
ness trifled with the important trusts reposed in them by the
people. An earnest and unflinching support shall be given to
the claims of j'ustice of ihose who it is beleived have been ma-
liciously and deeply inj'ured by the highhanded ami unlawful
proceedings of the present Executive.
A prominent feature in the political principles of the News
will be the advocacy of the expediency and necessity of keep
ing in repair aud in a seaworthy condition the vessels of our
navy while the affairs of tfie country remain in therr presenl
unsettled condition. It has been satisfactorily demonstrated
that with our navy we are able to contend successfully with
any force that our enemy can bring against us whereas with'-
out a navy we would be entirely at their mercy.
The Literary department of the News shall n t be found in
ferior to that of any paper published in the country; a prefer-
ence always beiug given to original articles and ihe best en-
deavors of its conductor used to cul'ivate a liberal taste for the
literary productions'of our own authors.
Apportion of each number will be devoted to the publication
of a carefully compiled summary of foieign aud domestic news
always bearing in mind however the fact that matters of a lo.
cal nature are far more interesting to the public than any thing
else the editor w:ll not lose sight of this department and will
endeavor to collea and record such incidents on dits of humoi
and general information as will be deemed most interesting and
profitable to the reading community.
Arrangements have already been made to ensure Uip receipt
of a correct and impartial record of the proceeding of ihe ap-
proaching Congress and from the nature of ihe subjects thei
will engage the atle..tion of the honorable body will in all

"I have been acquainted with the Rev. Calebs. Ives for many
years past and during the last two years have been associated with
him as an officer of this institution. I have found him excellently
fitted in all respects to be an instructor of youth. His industry de-
cision and patient good temper qualify him in a high degree asa
governor o. the young while his accurate scholarship and untiring
zeal render him equally successful as a teacher. In committing- their
children to the instruction of Mr. Ives parents may feel the most
